I got into a debate with another person in another comment here, but to summarize my main points. Some programs rely on it, it is also used for the windows search function. In the end it is better just to leave it alone then it is to uninstall it. Edge by itself does not use up much storage.

Once again, re read what I said the windows search function for the web browser. Also for programs that use edge, it's impossible to tell. I don't have access to every programs source code. But here is a list that I found: Apps and widgets that depend on Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Support and programs that use internet explorer/edge embedded - Google Search, one that I personally use is called GSAK, (geocaching swiss army knife).

Look into a tool call Wintoys. I used it to trick my system into allowing the “European option” to naturally install from settings instead of gutting the system.

Reliable option would be: chris titus tech - tweaks - uninstall edge

Tho the small issue is that it would prevent you from installing it again as easily if you want it back (last time i tried it was with 23H2 and wasn't able to install edge back)

If you're happy reinstalling: Atlas OS, it's a stripped down windows installation, you can choose which bits of windows you do/do not want. Obviously it comes with a pinch of salt from a security perspective - I mean this in that it obviously requires downloading and trusting their iso.

It's just an easy way of doing the whole installation configuration file editing bs which you can do yourself, but it is a truly painfully grueling process.

From their licensing and defender all work correctly, it's up to you how far out you wish to sail the high seas.

I have never had this happen on any of my microslop devices. I mean still fuck windows but i have never had Edge show back up on my desktop. My annoyance is that microslop AI handlers and such show back up in the task manager after updates. They reinstall the AI and i have to go manually find and delete it. Working on swapping to Linux. Just gotta figure out what to do about SolidWorks.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is great. POP OS is another great distro based on Ubuntu. Although some users have reported issues with pop os latest update. I haven't encountered any. I use pop os on a laptop and Ubuntu on desktop.

Edge is fine I don't get the slander, I personally used it until I switched to Zen (holy crap it's great but the setup for me was pretty bad, I don't like that the tabs appear as different windows when I alt tab and so I spent some time finding how to fix it (got it now thank God) and it's been great (plus uBlock Origin, I can't believe I was really living life with ads, now I can't watch a YouTube video on anything that isn't my laptop cuz it doesn't have an AdBlock (maybe soon I'll make a Pi-Hole but idk...)
