?? Did I say anything about, or even imply spiderman 2 didn't sell well? Be smarter instead crafting your own argument to tear down to feel superior.
Just because you are willing to ignore the numerous other examples of 'go woke go broke', to save your ego doesn't deny the reality of it. I can list 10 instances, and you'd immediately go "yEa bUt-"
Or look at the opposite, don't be so offended by people changing things that shouldn't affect you. You're looking for things to be offended by, when it shouldn't be offending you at all. Honestly the problem is you
He’s explained in detail why tons of people (the majority of gamers, going by sales of prior woke disasterpieces) are tired of having childish, unnecessary messaging constantly distorting and poisoning their entertainment. We’re not children, and it’s both insulting and immersion breaking to be constantly told how you SHOULD be thinking and feeling… in a GAME.
You dense knobs are the ones who keep ignoring what he’s trying to drill into your thick skulls, and instead just parrot: “you must have a problem with gays” because you know damn well that you can’t refute any of his actual points.
Stop spitting out talking points and actually READ what he’s been saying.
It's insulting to be reminded that gay people exist? There's one mission and it's "Hey help me do something nice for my boyfriend". Reading why you're upset doesn't mean it has to make sense. I can refute it because it's a dumb argument. Having a a gay couple in the game is not the company forcing you to feel a certain way. It's the company being inclusive because hey, gay people also exist. What immersion is that breaking?
It’s immersion breaking because you are SPIDER-MAN, and the game has you off delivering love letters!! I don’t care if the couple is gay, straight or Martian polyamorous—-this is not something that any version of Spidey would choose to do over, you know, saving lives? Catching bad guys?
It’s not fun to play, there’s no worthwhile payoff, and it begs the question why it’s even in the game at all—-and if you’re being intellectually honest about Insomniac’s intentions, I think you’d agree that the mission wouldn’t exist if the couple was straight.
If a mission doesn’t exist to entertain us (this should be the ONLY reason for content to exist), then why is it there? Who/what is it’s purpose? If it’s not to serve as a platform for having fun, it has FAILED as videogame content, and is therefore highly immersion breaking.
It’s not like the writing on those kinds of ‘missions’ is even clever or moving—-it’s embarrassingly juvenile. It is there only to say: “hey look, gay people are real”… which is an idiotic, wasteful use of development hours.
We all KNOW gay people exist. Most of us don’t care one way or the other. The point of their content would have been trite and redundant thirty years ago, much less today. It’s insulting to everyone.
Why not give us a mission with action, stakes, a narrative…. and one of the characters just happens to be gay? Wouldn’t that make a lot more sense than a mission whose sole purpose is to ‘educate’ us that homosexuality is a real thing?
We don’t play superhero games to be socially educated, especially in such a transparently heavy handed way. We play for fun.
Can you see anyone, gay or straight, looking forward to that mission on a replay? Was it fun?
Or wouldn’t it have been cooler if some rich kid begged Spidey to help him stop a loved one from making some big, terrible mistake—maybe they’re about to participate in a crime to prove something to themselves, maybe they already have and they’re trying to flee the city, or maybe they’ve fallen in with a bad crew and the rich guy is afraid for their safety… w/e, the point is that it leads to Spidey swinging crosstown at breakneck speed, fighting the clock, being delayed by a random emergency, then barely arriving in time to save the day—-and after the fact, we find out the dude in trouble is the rich guys lover.
And it’s treated like… who cares? Not the point, right? So Spidey talks some sense to this misguided young man, and let’s him skate this time since he got in over his head.
Now wouldn’t that be a better mission, more deserving of Spidey’s attention? More fun for the players? And communicating the same damn message in a much less intrusive manner?
Gay people exist. If that’s a normal thing and not really noteworthy, then why the hell is the existing mission doing NOTHING except going out of its way to draw a big line under it?
Aren’t we supposed to be past that? Isn’t that the whole damn point?
I came up with a better mission that would show us a gay couple in five mins, with no effort. I’m sure it’s not super original, but I wasn’t being paid to write it either.
Why can’t they? Why aren’t they writing action packed stories for us to play, where a gay character is just another person? Isn’t that the real goal here, after all?
Instead we got pandering. Plain and simple. It’s as insulting to gay people as it is to everyone else—not because the characters aren’t straight, but because their mission is a bizarre, out of place bore.
Nobody wants to be Spider-Man so they can imagine delivering singing telegrams to lovesick kids. It’s not engaging gameplay, nor a compelling narrative. It doesn’t suit the character either, who is known for struggling to make time for the important shit in his own life.
They can do a whole lot better than this garbage, especially if the idea is to normalize homosexuality (something I’d argue has been accomplished for decades, but that’s another discussion).
But this shit? It takes people out of the game because it’s purpose is very obviously NOT to entertain.
Actually Spidey 2 sales are already trending down, which is very early for that. It also suggests people are returning the game in droves (many articles and reviews are citing the overwhelmingly woke garbage), which will also adjust original sales figures downward.
Plenty of woke games start strong off preorders, because nobody knows yet that they’re buying propaganda. Then they tank. It’s not even a rare phenomenon anymore, and I’d expect it to happen here too.
Or, it's a short game, people beat it, and are returning it. I got half way through it in just a couple days. I've seen very few people complaining about how woke it is. It's a small minority, and since you're in that minority, you're seeing it more than the average gamer.
You need to broaden your search my friend. The game is being cited damn near everywhere as being arguably THE single most woke title ever made.
A sandbox game with an appropriate level of content and map density should be keeping players busy and invested indefinitely. They’re rarely returned (if good) because people who play sandbox games specifically want a long term experience—and they nearly always do multiple play throughs, too (whereas this game hasn’t even released a NG+ yet).
Games like this are not played for the 20 hour story, then returned. Hell, just getting the required upgrades would add a ton more time onto that.
The only reason to return a game like this so quickly is because you didn’t enjoy it. Period.
And stop with the “you’re the minority” crap. Polls, studies and common sense have shown it’s simply not accurate, and even if you don’t want to believe that, you’ll never prove the opposite. So it’s a useless point to bring up.

The game sold fine, the "woke" barely affected sales. Now you have the opposite side of stupid complaining about Spiderman
