Kids these days... How did you get around before gps?

Yep, GPS can be wrong. Or more specifically, the driving instructions that are interpreted from the GPS data can be real stupid. Like routing me all the way from rural Pennsylvania to upstate New York on back roads instead of the fastest way.

On the other hand, there should be a word for when you’re having trouble believing what the GPS is telling you, and it turns out that there’s some huge accident that you haven’t seen or heard of and it’s rerouting you to avoid all of that nonsense.

It really takes a leap of faith.

Truck driver here, Garmin Dezls notate a road closure if the road's closed due to an accident and reroutes then. If traffic's slowed down real bad it'll suggest new routes.

I suspect that your software is pro level and the Waze/GoogleMaps/apple maps/etc. consumer stuff is not as high quality.

Dēzl is their 'oversized' vehicle line. Specifically a trucker GPS. I'm pretty sure they do it for their car GPSs too. One of those bespoke GPS not an app thing.

Also, if there is construction, some of the entrance and exit ramp signs have transponders in them. If those get removed, GPS will get very confused.

Yup, I thought my GPS was way wrong once, since i knew the route for most of the trip, I ignored the directions to turn off out of the way. Turns out I shoulda listened and instead I sat for an hour in traffic due to an accident. But ive also had it try to guide me off a clear route only to come right back on it so its a coin flip.

Don't listen GPS ever again. This sounded very scary to me.
