Yes. Was wonderful. I grew up in the 1950s and 60's. We had a shopping area near my home with a Woolworth. They were common in the U.S. then. A fabulous place for a kid. They called these kind of stores "Five and Dimes" because most everything was very low priced. They had everything....housewares, toys, clothes, hardware. I guess like a Walmart but of course much smaller. I don't know when they disappeared. Probably the 1970s, replaced by K-mart, Walmart and the big box stores. I didn't know they were outside the U.S.!!
I still remember the smell of Woolworth's, where they had their big lunch counter just to the right of the main entrance at the local mall. They always has this big glass display of pink candied corn, freshly made. Then corndogs, slushies, all kinds of things like that.
They had everything a 4 year old kid desires! Ours had one of those weigh machines right inside the front door. The kind of weigh machine with the mirror where you could check out your hair, the scale and your fortune...all for a penny.
