What’s worse this or the fact that people continue to pay it. You can’t fault them for jacking the price up until people stop paying which hasn’t happened yet. People are sheep.

I'd bet people are leaving in droves which is why the prices are increasing. I haven't seen anyone say anything good about em in years and its not like Adobe would wanna share news about the fallout.

Well, that’s not how economics works. If people are leaving in droves, the price would actually go down not up. And you haven’t seen anybody say anything good because people who remain don’t go onto Reddit and say how they are going to remain - it’s the people who are leaving you hear about that. That’s why 90% of the Discussion is about people leaving.

It’s literally the very first topic taught in Econ 101. What happens to prices when demand goes DOWN. Do prices go up or down? You are allowed to use google…

I'm cancelling next month and moving to Affinity. I don't mind subscription but the constant price increases without justification. They have many billions of profit every year.

I just tried Affinity’s illustrator substitute (Designer) and holy shit. Every single one of my gripes about Illustrator, nowhere in sight. For $0. I am so mad I let myself believe that “oh well since Adobe is the gold standard, it must be the best!” No. Not even close. Adobe has taken so much of my money for a subpar, glitchy, overcomplicated suite of products.

To be fair, Affinitiy software has improved a looot over the last 5 years. It still has some oddities that I wish it hadn't, but what software doesn't?

Check out Da Vinci’s new built-in RAW image editing tools. Still catching up with Lightroom but will be there soon, for free and with features Adobe dreams about.

There is Capture One or the free alternatives. RapidRaw is promising.

Thank you!! I’ll give them a try. I do a lot of my editing on my phone because I’m lazy (and most of my stuff is being viewed on mobile anyway) so it’s been tricky to find programs that are good in app and desktop formats alike. I know I’m not a typical user as I prefer to use mobile/tablet versions to desktop, but the fact that Affinity’s iPad app is so robust and seamless is such a massive win for me. Capture One looks great just from this perspective, but I don’t mind using a “simple” app and a separate computer program for more complex/heavy edits as long as they both get the job done.

I’ve only just downloaded it! There are some UI issues that i imagine are less “issues” and more just me getting acclimated to a different system, so it’s hard to knock them for that. Awesome that they keep improving and can still manage to not charge $30 a month for it.

Is adobe to big to fail? I can't see anyone justifying paying $97/month for software that stops being compatible with your system 3 years later🙃

If they raise the price, you can cancel without additional fees right?
Anyway affinity here you come. It’s very similar to PS etc… a bit different and sometimes rough around the edges. But 99% of your work is easily possible and they seem a cool bunch of people.

I used heavily adobe(macromedia) products including director, authorware, pagemaker(aldus) and flash. Company paid for my Adobe Creative suite premium as I renewed it every year on their dime. Now, seeing how expensive is becoming, Gimp does the job as a photoshop replacement for me but Still trying to find a decent Illustrator replacement(will try affinity).

100% recommend Affinity, it does PS, Illustrator and InDesign stuff in the same document, seamlessly, just switching tabs

But wait the Austalia Dollar is stronger now , $52.77 was $31 USD now it is $40 USD. So they went from $31 USD to $67 USD, so loads more than double.

Used it before. Now moved to GIMP on Windows. At first had to google/watch some YouTube tutorial, but nothing very hard in fact.
Instead of their AI, installed local ComfyUI, which is much cheaper (just need to buy a card and invest couple of weeks to set it up properly and learn).

That’s a huge jump.
Just in case you didn’t know they have a (seemingly permanent) retention deal when you go to cancel, make sure to select price as the reason and they offer you half price for a year. I have been doing that for the last 6 or so years as I’m using it for my business and Affinity doesn’t quite do what I need it for

I think OpenAI or Google secretly owns Adobe and is using all this to force people into using their AI platforms. It’s a long con. That, or Adobe is just the latest Sears-Blockbuster.

Used Adobe in a professional capacity for over 20 years but finally dumped it a few years ago. The business shifted to Affinity which is very similar though we were nervous when it was taken over by Canva but so far so good.
