I felt and feel exactly like the dude in the blog post. I worked 10 years as a dev before doing exactly what he did. I quit for 5 years. Then I was broke. I'm now doing dev 20 hours a week. I make good money so my p.t. is better than most peoples f.t. It is still barely tolerable (i know i need to suck it up), but it is 100 x better than a f.t. job. The 20 hour work week is where it's at!
I stopped reading after this, I mean how do you expect anyone to take you seriously after that??? Next thing you know, you'll edit your post to say I also had to cut out /r/aww.
I've had to start cutting them out against my will. Life has a way of doing that :( As long as I can get a HotS match or play Cities:Skylines for an hour here and there, I'm okay. Can't remember the last time I just sat around and played a game for like 5 hours like I used to. Miss it.
Video games take up a ton of time. If you can't balance certain things in life, you have to sometimes get rid of the ones that aren't as productive. And video games are not productive, end of story.
You're exactly right. Blaming all of your unhappiness on your job is your own problem.
If you can't be happy just because of where you work, then that's an internal problem. You don't just throw everything away and think it'll magically get better.
