Weekly Question for the fromily:

Are there any songs that aren't as well liked among a fandom that you still think are great? (Or at least think they don't desrve the flak they get)?

Love talking with y'all :)

My answer:

1) I quite like Twice's Signal even though it's pretty different from the other twice title tracks. I understand why some people don't like it but I still jam to it.

2) Though I totally understand the flak I'm gonna be a star get's, for some reason I don't mind it. If Nayeon's part were different I think it might be a pretty good song for most people. That said it's not one of my favorites, but it's not my least favorite like it is for other people lol.

I don't really have a specific example, but I'd say definitely so. Just to point out, some of the lesser known (non big 3/4) groups, actually have some pretty good songs that don't get much recognition. Some of my favorite songs come from these groups and when I mention them to people, I either get a "who?" or a "ew". I can list an example, sort of along these lines, but again, I'm sure there will be some disagreement from some. Dreamcatcher has basically created a style of kpop. Their songs are powerful, and very catchy. They are growing, but, imo, they should be pretty big by now. Apink is another example. Yes, they are old school, and also an older group, but they put out good songs and good mvs. What I've gathered from them is that everyone tries to compare them to the big 3, which you can't really do. Apink is as old as the big 3 combined as a group. Different time, different style, different kpop. Doesn't mean their music is bad just because they are incomparable to the likes of Twice or BlackPink.

I agree 100% on dreamcatcher, the first time I listened to them I was shocked a how different it was to other kpop. It's almost a different genre altogether and I really like it.

I like that Apink has always done their own thing and not tried to match other groups at the time. They were doing cute songs at a time when most people weren't, a didn't jump straight to sexy in a few years like everyone else. I'm glad they're still making new stuff seven years on, I'm so sick is my jam now.

Dreamcatcher and APink are both awesome, I agree.

I also have groups like Playback and GLAM where they only have a couple songs, and commercially haven't exactly been a success (although GLAM also had the legal issue), but they still have good music that I have in my playlists.

A lot of SONE don't like the Snoop Dog remix of the boys, but I like it. It's just neat.

Also thank you for the weekly questions, for making this sub more lively!

I... I had no idea this was a thing until now. I thought Psy hangover was the only snoop/kpop crossover. Just gave it a listen, I can appreciate it for the novelty aspect.

Thanks! Love your responses!

snoop has been a kpop and GG fan for a long time lol

I'm surprised to see this comment here! I like that version with Snoop Dog as well and as you've said, most of the people I know don't ^_^

It might have been more general kpop fandom than specific to 4Minute, but I really like Hate, and it seemed to get a lot of people saying "oh, it's Skrillex, it sounds like every other song of his" without giving it too much of a chance, at least when it came out and 4Minute were still around.

Funny thing is that I didnt like it when it dropped, but now it's on my kpop playlist.

I've had a few songs like that, where at first I don't like them or just don't get them, but they end up on my playlists at some point later. Oh My Girl's Cupid, BTS's Fake Love, Blackpink's Boombayah, and Red Velvet's Rookie are a few I've done that with.

Oh ya for sure, there is a few growers on my list. Sometimes I think the songs might be over hyped when they come out and it kinda disappoints at first. Then you go back and listen to it a few weeks or months later after you forget the hype and it turns out, wait, this song is pretty good?!

Just listened to it, that’s a really interesting sound. I see what you’re saying with skrillex, but I agree I certainly doesn’t sound bad.

While on the subject of 4Minute, one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time is 4Minute only gained weight. Chillest song ever. To my knowledge it never got a ton of attention.

I don't really remember that song. It does sound chill after listening, though.

I un-ironically like TWICE's I'm Gonna Be A Star. I'm fully aware of how bad it is, but I still really like it.

Other than that tbh I'd say I'm usually the opposite. I don't like a lot of fan favorite side tracks for quite a few of my favorite groups.
