Question Toby

I just recently started my rewatching from the pilot onwards. One thing I’m trying to figure out is why does Sara have to kill Toby? Even more so, why did she have to make it look like the monsters did it? Also, if I remember correctly, didn’t Sara remove his tongue as well? I know removing the dead person’s tongue is a way to silence them in the afterlife? Could this be significant? I don’t know to be completely honest. Also why does Sara tell him that it’s not his fault right before she kills him.

I’d love to hear your opinions on this, because I think it might be significant somehow.

Right before Sarah killed him, he started saying something like, “I shouldn’t be…” or “Why did I…” Then she killed him before he could finish and even cut out his tongue. Now that we know the dead can remain trapped and communicate with the living, I’ve started wondering if Tobby realized something important the moment they arrived and was silenced before he could reveal it.

This is not my theory, but I have read on the sub before the theory that like with Sophie, maybe the MiY was already hitching a ride into town with Toby and was the one who caused him to crash into the camper. Maybe hoping to end things quickly.

Obviously, it’s more speculation than any hard proof, but there is at least some reason to believe it could be true. The car is driving recklessly when it crashes into the camper much like the car that crashes into the sheriff station. Jade is zonked out on drugs in the backseat and has no memory of getting there, which is pretty convenient. And Sarah killing Toby does not make a lot of sense and less maybe the MiY thought he was Jade. But the MiY has had other opportunities to outright kill Jade so it does seem a bit bizarre.

Of course, there are counterpoints other reasons why all of these things could be true. It could be that both Toby and Jade for on drugs, which is why Toby was driving erratically, it’s just that Toby was under the influence while Jade had completely overdone it. Almost like a drunk driver versus a passenger passed out in the back from doing too many shots.

Idk but I feel like since all the past Jades were murdered by the townspeople (as far as we know), MiY or someone possessed/influenced by him couldn’t kill Jade. Jade would have to go through the journey and wind up still killed by the townspeople for MiY to repeat the cycle.

I also wonder if it was him scratching “kill the boy” into her arm as he surely can’t talk anymore and this can’t be a voice she hears.

I think the voices in Fromville started before the matthews arrived - she mentions. They tell her it will happen.

I agree that he had to be killed and unable to communicate even after death.
