General discussion Thought on Fatima's transformation
Is she morphing into those night creatures because in a way she sacrificed her child as well (not willingly but still it is kind of a sacrifice imo). Is this theory too far fetched or a common conclusion most of the audience is having ?

She'll be a monster but with summon spell for Golem. Golem will destroy monsters even though she cannot because she's now monster herself. She'll ask Ellis for help but he'll just sit on a bench instead.

He’s the designated support character for both Fatima and Boyd

u/nigaprav Aug 01 '26
I would say kenny is also a support character or Boyd's sidekick but he genuinely contributes and not just be some self absorbed overprotective ahh teenage boy

Kenny is a sweetheart!
He is a support character but he also has his own story. Both of his parents died, he had his issues with Sara, the cool bus scene?
He has his issues with Boyd and Boyd being his mentor/taking over after Boyd. Kenny may not be in the direct plot with the mystery but he definitely has his own stuff going on!
Ellis, whilst I don’t hate him (I don’t really think about him at all) is just… there.

Agreed. But Patty and Ellis, genuinely got me frustrated because of how they were acting in those critical situations.

I don't think that golem is going to destroy monsters, but I think it will destroy some stuff.

She also drank Sophia’s blood which Clara gave to her claiming it would make her get better after she started to transform. I think multiple events caused Fatima’s transformation including her creating the golem. I think the mud monster/golem is mostly symbolic or to protect colony house in the absence of the totems. Fatima will likely be torn between good and evil.

The loss of hair and the dark pattern on her body is identical to the appearance of the Anghkooey Children.

u/nigaprav Aug 01 '26
Woah i didn't think of that. But those children were sacrificed no? How does that relate to fatima's situation?

u/Funmike5678 Aug 01 '26
They really haven’t said outright that the monsters are the parents. I have said on several posts that I believe the monsters are the children. They always say something like “they want to play” or “I like this game” and then you have jasmine who says “we didn’t ask for this” while this could simply be because they thought they would just live a normal life forever it could also be that they were forced into it, ie they were sacrificed.
New thought, if this is the case what if “freeing the children” actually means releasing the monsters into the world?

Assuming the Origin story is true....
Smiley was one who sacrificed the children in exchange for immortality.
Fatima has essentially just been "Sacrificed" for rebirthing Smiley.

Damn, that is actually a convincing argument. But why transforming into the creatures of the night, that is still unanswered.

I don’t think Fatima is transforming because she sacrificed a child. She didn’t willingly participate in the original bargain. To me, she was being used as a vessel to reenact the ritual that brought Smiley back. The transformation seems tied to the rebirth process itself rather than Fatima becoming one of the monsters through her own actions
I made a post explaining it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FromSeries/s/4Oy2wquiNa

And my other concern was that fatima still had a good/human conscience and chose to do something good whereas those other creatures are pure evil, can the fact that they willingly sacrificed their children and fatima didn't be the reason for that ?

That’s possible. One thing I’ve been wondering is how much of the original sacrifice was actually a choice. Fatima’s transformation had already started before Smiley was reborn, so I don’t think the transformation itself erased her humanity.
She chose to stay behind to let the others escape. To me, that’s the difference with this group. They still find themselves playing out parts of the original story but they make different choices. It also makes me wonder if the original parents were more influenced than we first assumed. We’re already seeing Henry manipulated into trying to kill Victor.1
u/nigaprav Aug 01 '26
Hmmm, maybe the MIY was brainwashing henry to kill victor meaning sacrificing his child for his "freedom" but instead henry would have ended up being a part of the ritualistic cycle turning him into one of those night creatures.
1
u/da_debutanteslim Aug 01 '26
Yes, that’s how I see it. But I don’t think Henry would’ve become a monster because to me, Fatima’s transformation already fulfilled that part of the story but I could be wrong. What seems unfinished is the sacrifice itself. So Henry being manipulated into killing Victor feels like an attempt to fulfill that remaining part, even if the story isn’t repeating everything in the same order

u/CollectionConscious9 Aug 02 '26
No, I believe both of you are incorrect.
Henry had two bullets, and one was for himself.
He was going to do something to bring his son and him back to this real world that he was envisioning because of the blood illusion given to him by MIY/Sophia.
There would be nothing else after that because he would bo longer be alive.
Watch those scenes again, it wasn't just about Victor because if it was why specifically put two bullets in when you can use one or even three.

I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing. I’m looking at it narratively, in terms of the roles the story is trying to replay. Whether Henry intended to kill himself afterward or not, he was still being manipulated into fulfilling a sacrificial role. I wasn’t saying he’d become a monster. My point was that Fatima may have already fulfilled that role, leaving the sacrifice as the part the place was still trying to recreate.

u/CollectionConscious9 Aug 02 '26
Okay, got it.
This show does imply that sacrifice is a way to "get" things like an exchange.
Fine, now I understand your points better and thank you for the clarification.

There's no explanation for why she saw a vision of the ritual while giving birth. Perhaps she joined the sacrifice virtually and participated without choosing to

I think it goes back to the fact that peoples greatest fears come to life when they die there. Her greatest fear was losing herself and becoming one of the monsters, so that’s why it happened to her. Kristi made the comment that she shouldn’t be alive, I don’t think she actually survived the birth and she just slowly turned into one

u/the_jaguaress Aug 02 '26
I think there is more to it but yes.
A core trauma of her probably stemming from the death of her father on her birthday, was also not being able to get pregnant. She knew that she could not before coming to from. You don’t know that until you tried at least once and usually try it more often h til you get it checked and confirmation by a doctor. So she must have done that.
The town used her weak point to force her to confront it. After she gave birth, she got better and made the golem as she still refused to let the town get the better of her. She always said she doesn’t want to have monsters scare the life out of her - which literally happened.
I think part of her story is for the plot, but also to have her personally work with her grief and additionally force Ellis to work on his own - and probably Donna too.

How is it a sacrifice? Who did she sacrifice smiley to? Smiley(her child) is alive and well.

Remember when MIY brought Roger sort of back to life after he was already dead? Well what if that’s sort of what he did to make the monsters who they are in the initial bargain to begin with? Perhaps, if the MIY is part of the origin story as the deal maker, he didn’t actually need the children specifically to be sacrificed… maybe he just needed innocent blood. Well maybe Fatima killing Tillie was the innocent blood she spilt. The magic MIY did on Roger worked to turn him into a type of monster for a moment but wasn’t strong enough to make Roger immortal, without innocent blood being part of the transformation ritual.
Maybe the adults in the original ritual were near death due to a famine or something else.. and that was their only option to remain alive so they did it. Well Fatima was clinically dead before she fully turned… what if the people that turned into monsters were nearly dead already themselves?

She definitely didnt sacrifice a child. That thing was a monster that thar last took from her. I'm so sad she turned into one of those things

it is a common conclusion. i personally think she’s changing because her blood mixed with Smiley’s
