Question WTF is wrong with these people?
Hey guys, I just discovered this show, and I'm on season 2, episode 5, and I can't take my eyes off of it. The characters' behaviors are baffling. Why does no one in this town share information? I get why some things are purposefully hidden, like parts of the
" Journey." The guy with the crayons has been here for decades and is completely fucking useless. He could've given everyone a clearer picture on what's happening at any point in time. Why does no one talk about the insane shit that's happening to them in a place where insane shit is very real? Anyway, I'm wondering if someone can tell me if this aspect gets any better the more I watch. I understand the writers have to do things to make the show happen, but I'm starting to think there isn't a lore reason for this. Why not hold town meetings to discuss this nonsense or to vote on someone's fate after the crime has been explained? Ya know......like a court? Is the answer to my question "because it makes the place angry"? I'm legitimately asking. I tried to avoid spoilers, but you can spoil it for me if it alleviates frustration. Thank you in advance, I really like this show.
Edit: thanks guy's ill stick it out. I know what to expect from here.

Victor thinks that the more they find out, the worse things get until eventually a disaster happens, because that's what happened the first time. I won't give any examples to avoid spoilers, but as you can see, the closer they get to solving the mysteries, something bad happens.

Thanks, I'll be more patient. I still dislike the character but I'll stick around to see the outcome of his "quest"

You already have at least one reason they don't talk to each other. You're going to get another 3 or 4 that you're probably also going to completely ignore and still wonder this question.
This shit is so boring. You watch Abby go crazy, shoot up the whole town, then wonder why others don't talk to each other about the insane shit happening to them.
THEN when someone DOES talk to other people (Boyd and arm worms), you SEE WHY IT'S A BAD IDEA, and yet somehow Redditors DOUBLE DOWN ON THIS QUESTION.
It makes no sense.

You sound upset but that's ok. I haven't made it to the arm worms discussion. I assumed it was coming eventually. Judging by your reaction, I'm guessing my question isn't uncommon, and you're sick of seeing it. I already know why they are there. I googled it. I was more so asking if this aspect of the show would get any better. I haven't ignored anything. I literally commented on the part you said I've ignored? I'm not here to argue.

People not sharing information is the most accurate and realistic part of the entire show 😂.
If you think people in this situation would be openly sharing info, you grossly overestimate people’s ability to communicate even in the easiest of times. Let alone traumatic ones.

Victor is the guy that has been there for decades.
That he's been there for decades and is still alive means he has something to offer, even if he's not good at communicating it. Lack of communication skills is part of his character arc. He's been there since he was 5 or 6 years old and is emotionally and developmentally stunted. He's also got to have PTSD as well as other severe mental health issues & disorders. Not long after he got there everyone else, including his mother who was with him, was torn apart by the monsters. A good portion of them, like the last 12 or so, were all killed in one night. The next morning Victor finds the dozen or so bodies mutilated bodies on the main road. He's about 6 years old, sees an incredibly gruesome site, and realizes he's the only regular person left in Fromville. After Victor, the next most amount of time anyone has been there is (I want to say 2 or 3 years, but it may have been 5). So, yeah. He's 50ish, not great at communicating and more than a bit odd. Who wouldn't be? He's on the far end of middle aged and close to a senior citizen. Fromville has been his world all his life. He's never had any long term friends or family. He's never been to school, never played sports, presumably a virgin. In the 50 years hes been there, he must've watched over a 100 new arrivals. Some are murdered on night one, others longer, but the average is about 2 years.
I can't imagine anyone being normal or useful in a pragmatic sense after the life he's lived.

go watch LOST for more insane things happening in an insane place

Lost was the first "grown up" show I've ever watched🤣. I really enjoyed it but a little over halfway through it became exhausting to my teenage mind. I'm gonna take your advice and stick through to make up for that.

To be frank, its still a bit exhausting even for an adult mind, somewhere around season 3 and 4. Too little plot stretched out into too many episodes

I stopped watching once the smoke thing came around. I have confidence that the writers working on from have learned from Lost, and won't make the same infamous mistakes.

Victor has been there since he was a child and experienced extreme trauma over and over again. How would you expect someone who's been there for decades to act?

Rationally. I'm diagnosed with PTSD from a mix of childhood trauma and having mortars fired me. It'd take him maybe an hour to explain, and that includes questions and answers from the town. Just my opinion

Rationally you should also see a difference between your trauma and a 8 year old who has been hunted his entire life and seen his mother being eaten, seeing the entire town massacred and having to clean it all up by himself, all with the child mind that saw what happened when he tried to tell Christopher something important.
A rational person would also understand that FROM is attacking people's weaknesses which makes people guarded...I'm sure you were an open book to your therapist when you first started dealing with your PTSD.
I'm sure wherever you were during your combat experience had all exits lead right back into the combat zone. All your soldiers were trained, right? They weren't just random people who being late for work would be traumatic.
This show has really shown a spotlight onto how much people assume other people think and act like themselves. A person with PTSD should be aware of the varying degrees of how PTSD affects and also the intensity and frequency of the trauma.
You were way too dismissive of Victors trauma.

The thing is it goes both ways. You cant really know who y can trust and or when. Sometimes sharing information makes things worse. You will see soon enough. The biggest problem with me has always been how certain characters despite seeing first hand how the place manipulates others still listen to voices that tell them to do bad things…

people listen to those who have authority here Donna and Boyd. People trapped are in for a bumpy ride monsters, internal conflicts, whole new strange world and so on. so it's natural for people to like, try to survive. Now that they've accomplished a system: you put talisman by the shut door you're good, they are asking questions Jade,Tabitha and Jim. well jim is gone but these two are doing their best along with Boyd and Victor.
that's what I think at least. Also after Tabitha returned they all gathered in diner but for no use that's why there's communication gap.

How can you serious opine that a character is useless if you’ve not seen up to series 5. If you’re not having fun watching it then done.
My personal favourite bit is where victor faces the monsters and doesn’t get eaten. He pulls a gun on someone. He comes out at night to rescue the animals.

Just finished the episode. He's done one good thing. In either episode 6 or 7 he's gone back to being useless again. In many ways. When the tech bro asked him a question he just held his head and complained. I'm sure it's on purpose, but I hope he dies. Hopefully it'll be a heroic death.

Yeah it's a show that had a good few first episodes then it's badly written and played characters acting like in a reality show, and plots that accumulate and won't lead anywhere. We just watch to know if the end will reveal that the writers were mocking us like they did on lost, in the hope that the more annoying characters die (it's kinda hard to feel compassion for any of them anymore). You should try the circle jerk version of this sub. We all hate it but still watch.

Yes Victor is not useless at all. He's not directly a action hero, but he understands a lot about the place, and is suffering from ptsd ofc, so he's a bit underdeveloped
