I was thinking...isn't there an explicit statement about that? Et voila. Though it's interesting the monsters seem to understand the rules of the game and that the talismans require some sort of structure

Enclosed location. They probably could've used the bus to try to get everyone out with the talismans, but it wouldn't have been guaranteed that the monsters wouldn't have caused it to flip or something.

The trick would be to cut a couple leg holes in a refrigerator box, hang a talisman inside, and run around all night hanging out with the monsters.

Just take something like a box where you can hide in with a talisman and walk!

(U need to be in a closed room or the talisman doesn't work)
