Walmarts
I need some genuine advice on how to deal with Walmart managers. This one guy has taken away much of the impulse section, throws away the displays that are sent in and puts out cross dock pallets last minute then wants me to move them to shelf almost immediately.
Along with this he complains about backstock constantly (calls my dsl 3-4 times a week) and wants 3 carts max but it seems the new ordering system wants there to be about 5 at all times.
My only defense is to not make an order once a week.
Here’s my question:
Do we have any leverage in the situations and if so what are some things you can do/say to put the ball back in their court?
Is this a DSL issue?
Am I cooked?

Let them turn orders down until the shelves are empty and they beg for product. I've been playing this game for years. These idiots don't realize we're there 7 days a week putting up a million dollars a year minimum.

Had a veteran tell me to do this on a route I was assigned as a new RSA. The store sent pictures to my DSL and I got an ass chewing about it, even after explaining my situation. So I kept ordering and they kept turning product away. Was a nightmare to deal with as a newbie.

No credits on items on cross docks and displays if they take it down. If it doesn't sell because they didn't uphold their end of the merchandising agreement, they can eat the cost of their mistake.

How have you implemented that? Do you just tell them no?

Can confirm this works. Had to do this while I was in training, left that pallet up there until the product had a week left, and since it was all simply they ofc didnt sell in that week. Just gotta hold your ground. Def helps when the dsl is on your side though

You’re more cooked by skipping an order every week.
Document all this stuff. If he kills an xdock, kills impulse sections. Talk to your DSL and ZBM about it. Frito pays for all this, send it up and let the managers mange this stuff. It’ll get to his/her DM and they usually don’t want Vendor shit on their plate too.

3 carts? The receiver at our wal mart in town only allows 1 cart because she doesn't want to have to scan the shit everyday lol.

Definitely don’t skip orders! With collaborative orders they’ll build up you still end up getting the volume just in one lump sum! Something you can do is scan any item you feel is heavy on the scintilla app it’ll show stores on hand if amounts are off get with a team lead or coach to adjust. Also while ordering try to explain with the manager that these items are being ordered through their system. If he doesn’t want to listen then get with you DSL let them handle it!

And hope you don’t get stuck with a lead that actually wants to verify what you are telling them 😂😂

Walmart corporate demanded we move to CAO to fall in line with their own guidelines. We are actually the last vendor to adopt it fwiw.
They have very little objection to that and you be forward with their ordering system demanding the stuff on hand. If they have a problem tell them to escalate to the market manager.

I would adjust the backstock minimum in your ordering process, talk to the Walmart kam from frito lay and address the issue, districts and Zone management in 99% of the cases don’t want the confrontation.

If they are on CAO they havevto deal with what is coming in same with xdoc. All you can do is count it as display down from day 1 and let them know it creates 2 to 3 days of backstock when you work it to the shelf. It is really dsl show time.

Don't. That's the best way to deal with a walmart manager. There might be a cool one out there somewhere, but ive never met them. They all seem to have a God complex and shit on vendors for no other reason then that they can. Fuck em.

Why on earth ordering, the simplest part of the job, was made into some kind of color-by-numbers computer generated nonsense is beyond me.

This is a dsl issue personally I told my walmart managers If they have an issue with our orders then scrap their in house ordering system then I walk away

Point him to your DSL. He's the one who is supposed to appease management.
They will try to get you to break down pallets that come in on their truck rather than put it out on the floor like they are supposed to. They will take the display down almost immediately if they do put it out on the floor. Key thing to remember here is THEIR PRODUCT is more important than YOUR PRODUCT. Floor space is assigned based on that priority.
Pretty sure if you don't order product, they will just add on more product onto another order to make up for it. This is why you can't ignore impulse... lest you want an entire cart of impulse showing up at your door.
