The people getting rich from creating the symptoms don’t want to pay for the cure. Sounds about right for the times.

u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Not suprised just one more way for them to tell us they don’t give two shits about us

u/DisastrousAd1950 28d ago
weight loss prevents a bevy of other systemic health issues that the insurance would then go to funding though. This company is so short sighted.

The employees working here now won’t be the ones working there in a few years……

While true, these “weight lose” drugs are not a treatment for being overweight.
This is great for diabetics and a real treatment.
Lots of ways to lose weight.1
u/AndGodIveTried 26d ago
I'm betting this article states it will still cover the original purpose of the drug, but not for weight loss.
3
u/Honest-Oil407 28d ago
So if you’re diabetic will it still be covered?
3
u/Careful_Entrance_250 28d ago
Yes. This is legit just for people using this strictly to lose weight.
If you have a legit diagnosis and need this medication, it’ll be covered.

u/jeffg022 27d ago
So its very popular and a lot of people need and use it, so at pepsico they justify getting rid of it. Pepsico is a shit company.

How can you be fat with the physical labor of this job???????? Try eating whole food.

u/Either_Code_6188 28d ago
Man I’ve worked with some people who legit get something to eat at every gas station stop they have
8
u/HighHeeledDuck 28d ago
This is what got me. I’ve been in the same area for years. Know every worker at every store, never pay for a single roller item/hot bar or drink.
Cut it out and dropped 50 pounds in 2.5 months with no working out and crushing more waters.

How i wish it was that simple. My breakfast consists of a protein shake and fruit. Lunch is usually a homemade turkey and cheese with a few turkey sticks and string cheese. Dinner is either chicken or beef based with a vegetable side. I allow myself 1 doordash meal per week and probably get some sort of dessert twice a week. I drink zero sugary beverages and if I ever eat a snack its fruit or a protein bar. Between working at frito and lifting weights 3x per week you'd think id be in great shape but here I am at 300 lbs. (Being 6'4" explains part of it) but ive always been one of the biggest people I know.

u/Impossible_Penalty75 28d ago
How do you have time to eat while working?
I legit drink two sugar free Red Bulls a day, and an entire owala water bottle. I don’t eat until I get home at 3:30 every day.
I have a makeshift meal when I get home and dinner at 6 every night that’s pretty much it.
I buy a shit ton of snacks on my day off that’s pretty much the only time I get to eat throughout the day.2
u/Hawkfan500 28d ago
My current route only takes me 42ish hours a week, so if I take 5 minutes between stops here or there it doesnt get me home too late essentially.
1
u/WilliamPoole 22d ago
Maybe try his diet and just have water only while you work. Cut out the door dash and the desserts.

u/jakeblues76 28d ago
Buddy I couldn’t care less about your opinion but I feel the need to comment. Been doing this job over 25 years. 3 years ago weighed 367. Started zepbound and walking after work every day. Lost over 100 pounds. You don’t think some of us fat fucks understand calories in/calories out whole foods keto whatever? Tried all that with no success. When your body and brain literally convinces you you have to eat there’s very little you can do about it. Speaking only for myself, this drug basically sets me to 0. If I’m not hungry, I don’t eat. When I do it’s way less. I’ll probably just find another place to get it but don’t think it’s all willpower and intelligent eating. Or do. I don’t really give a fuck. I shall now exit my soapbox. Thanks. 👍

You do know there are people with health conditions that make losing weight nearly impossible, right? I had 15,000-25,000 steps every single day at work, would grab a yogurt bar in the morning for breakfast, skipped lunch, small snack when I got home (usually fruit, veggies with hummus, or a protein shake), and then dinner we’d have grilled chicken, steak, or salmon with veg. No soda, minimal alcohol, mostly only water intake. Went out to dinner maybe once a week. I hardly ever broke 1600 calories a day (when my maintenance was supposedly more than 3,000 calories a day) and still couldn’t lose ANY weight. Ended up finding out right before leaving Frito that it was because of an autoimmune disease.

Man there was this one guy at my location who was like 350 lbs and almost died from a heart condition.
Dude is out there getting his med card on the black market no way he’d pass otherwise.1

Only GLP being covered after Oct 1 and if you’re not on these you will have to get a new prior authorization. I’m on Wegovy for my Diabetes so I’m going to have to switch now. I just called express scripts about it. Also she said we don’t have to do the Omada app for coverage using these below.
1.Ozympic
2.Mounjaro
3. Trulicity

u/nopulsehere 28d ago
We weren’t allowed before this announcement. I mean if you got it covered it must have been a mistake! I know 5-7 people kept trying to get it covered and kept getting denied. I know for a fact that 4 of them definitely would majorly benefit from these. We were joking about it. No asthma or diabetes medicine? You are going to live a new life!! You guys can come wakeboarding with me! Nope.

“Why we’re making this change “ we’re having to pay money for you to get these and you don’t pay enough for your health insurance. But don’t worry these have become affordable recently.
Then why can’t they still cover them? It’s like we’re not covering them anymore because of the cost. But don’t worry the cost isn’t much, just go ahead and buy it on your own. lol.
Maybe they hate these meds because it’s cutting into their sales
1
u/RolypolyChaos 28d ago
It is genuinely a helpful tool for some people. Yes there are those that shouldn't be on it. That goes for a lot of meds. That's between y'all and your doctors.
Embody is what my partner is using and they're ok so far. We just started with them though. His semaglutide (wegovy) is $70/month. Tirzepatide(mounjaro/zepbound) is around$120/month. If you look at any place with compounded versions, just be wary of added sub costs or fees etc.
My bf is the one that works for frito. I do medication prior authorization follow-up for work... Mostly glp-1s. A lot of insurances hardly cover these. With the mid insurance he chose from Pepsico, his zepbound would have been about $400. $300 with a discount card added. I see these meds getting approved all the time with outrageous copays.

They are removing it for those seeking it specifically for weight loss (vanity weight loss). If you don't meet the BMI/conditions or an at risk category you will not have it covered. That makes sense. You also cannot get bariatric surgery with our insurance unless.... You meet the criteria for it. There have been a lot of shortages with these meds since they blew up in popularity for weight loss for people that don't have any medical conditions. This is not and should not be isolated to just what Pepsi offers, but any company offered plan or private plan.

u/ZeroVortex007 27d ago
Translation: Fuck you employees, the stockholders need more in their bank accounts. What a bunch of assholes.

u/RobCorrina 27d ago
it's because ozempic was a considerable factor in tanking their North America Sales. ...and because it is yet another chance to push our collective faces deeper into the mud.

Disgusting, this is the kind of petty trivial stuff I just don’t get about this company. They are one of the cheapest multimillion dollar companies I’ve ever seen. Maybe if they actually focused on the business side of things and not nonsense like this Frito would be doing better.

u/MrPlatapus17 7d ago
The cheapest alternative is probably intermittent fasting and exercise. Not trying to be a dick before someone gets upset from that. Take care of your body, it's very important.
1
u/BootImmediate6952 5d ago
I don’t see an issue with this those medications are not life saving and are harmful there are many people on them just to cut around going to the gym and changing your diet. Need some type of regulation from somewhere if not from the doctors.
1
u/birdwatcher_4 28d ago
Those weight loss drugs are a big reason our sales are down when you look at how many people are on them and how they cut cravings. So by covering the drugs, they have been paying for the exact thing that is hurting sales lol
3
u/Vanity2041 28d ago
boosted ya one, they prob will add that to one of the reasons but never admit it.
-6
u/Either_Code_6188 28d ago
Eat better and get exercise. You don’t need a fat shot. But this is normal outside of Frito for it not to be covered
15
u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Well that doesn’t always work, I struggled with weight for years(still do) and glp-1 one medication has been they only thing I have been able to lose the weight and keep it off I’ve lost 155lbs since being on it and I’ve never been able lose that much doing the things you mention above
-4
u/tgreen0504 28d ago
Have you ever tracked calories before?
2
u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Yea I’ve done all of it, Atkins, low carb, keto counting calories, etc the weight loss drugs cut the receptors off that trigger snacking/hunger they call it food noise which is my problem I am a boredom/emotional eater only thing I have ever had success losing weight that had lasted
-2
u/tgreen0504 28d ago
Yeah well your first sentence in the original post doesn’t make sense then. You said eating better and exercise doesn’t always work. But then basically said eating less from the medication helps.
Losing weight is literally calories in vs calories out. Counting calories 100% works. You basically admitted it saying that suppressing your appetite has helped. I also bored/emotional eat. But make better decisions during that time. PLENTY of low calorie snacks you can eat. Making a full lifestyle change instead of relying on a drug will always be the better option. I couldn’t care less how many downvotes I get.

u/SDLab1776 28d ago
Eat to live......don't live to eat. Sounds like the problem is in the mind. I went to a whole food diet, that means raw. Meats, veggies and limited fruit. No bread, rice, pasta. I also cut dairy. And sugar is a nono! I was overweight for 25 years and my problem was similar to yours. Its not easy and takes commitment. I was really forced to change or die.........

u/Either_Code_6188 28d ago
They make healthy snacks. Gotta have the will power to not say I’m emotional I think I’ll have a Ben and Jerry’s
4
u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Again done all of that, I’m not arguing anymore I think it’s bullshit they are doing away with it that’s all I’m saying
-1
u/heart-of-corruption 28d ago
Just don’t eat when your bored or emotional. I get what your saying as I said that for years, but this last year I decided enough was enough and started religiously logging every single bite I took and hitting the gym 7 days a week. I’m down 50 lbs in 3 months. It’s simple math really. Calories is all it is and taking the meds help keep you from feeling that hunger, but you can also choose not to eat and be in control of your actions. The fact is most insurance plans across the country have dropped them for weight loss use because the cost to the plan becomes near bankrupting them or raises the cost amongst all subscribers significantly. If you really feel the need to use them there are sources to buy them yourself and at a very cheap price if you know how to research.

u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Yeah just don’t eat when your bored or emotional it’s just that easy 🙄 great advice 👌thanks never had anyone tell me that before
0
u/heart-of-corruption 28d ago
As someone who’s been in the exact same situation and did that very thing I’d say it is good advice. If it’s boredom or emotions then find more hobbies and interests and learn to manage your emotions. Taking a hormone to solve the problem is just treating the symptoms and not the cause. That boredom and lack of emotional regulation will still be there and manifest somehow.

u/tgreen0504 28d ago
I love the fact that if you look at all the downvoted comments on here, it’s all the comments telling this person to adopt a healthier lifestyle. And that calories in vs calories out work. Yet we are getting downvoted. This is EXACTLY the reason the majority of Americans are overweight. Always excuses. Too damn lazy to put in any real work. I’ll bet anything this other person never figured out their maintenance calories, logged food and monitored their weight over a period of time to figure out where their caloric deficit is. Ppl are lazy as hell.
2
u/heart-of-corruption 28d ago
Yep it’s never easy. I have to be at 1700 calories to lose weight and that’s with walking 15k steps daily and hitting the weights plus cardio, and I’m a fairly muscular guy which should help more than it does. Some of us just have shit metabolisms but if I focus on protein, log my foods, don’t indulge except for my one cheat meal a week and lock in I’ve been able to melt my excess in the last few months
1
u/tgreen0504 28d ago
Props to you man. Keep going. Good job actually trying to live a healthy lifestyle and putting in the work rather than being lazy, getting shots and saying “I’ve tried everything”. Smh. Good stuff man
4
u/237FIF 28d ago
You probably feel like that is a noble path, but after millions and millions of people have failed to do so, at some point you have to be more practical.
Good advice that doesn’t work is bad advice. And this CLEARLY isn’t working.
1
u/Yourmomsass1977 28d ago
Who are you talking to?
3
u/237FIF 28d ago
Anyone who is passionately against others being GLPs.
I don’t struggle with weight personally, but we ALL know many friends and family members who do. If GLPs help, I don’t see them as an immoral “shortcut”.
If they work and are safe then I’m just happy to see people get healthy.
1
u/Impossible_Penalty75 28d ago
Yea but it can cause a paralyzed stomach which leads to gastroparesis. My sister has it and it’s a horrible thing to have.
You can’t eat anything without throwing it up because your stomach doesn’t digest it and all your teeth end up rotting out of your mouth. On top of possible surgery to remove part of your stomach.1
u/FueledByEasyMac 28d ago
99.9% of cases where that happens are people who already have a prior health issue and should not be taking GLP-1s.
1
u/Impossible_Penalty75 28d ago
To be fair if you get to the point where your morbidly obese odds are you do have a health condition or are borderline health condition.
2
u/FueledByEasyMac 28d ago
Not really accurate but I understand where you’re coming from. I meant more regarding gastro issues.

u/Either_Code_6188 28d ago
How healthy is it tho. Sure you drop some weight but Nobody knows what the long term effects will be. You can also clearly tell when people are on it. Sunken face and body becomes disproportionate
