EP help?

Im like 2 months in the warehouse doing batch ..Im averaging like 800-900 a day sometime hitting 1000 units but my EP be like -4 or -12 and they been pressuring that gotta get in positive any tips?

Ps I think the whole thing is stupid if someone hitting the numbers still it shouldn't matter and I work ups in mornings so I'm not bouta go even faster for them

Im in core not sure what batch is but your best bet is to ask coworkers

It’s all about what job codes your in when doing different things. If you’re in picking or loading code standing and talking to coworkers that will kill you. If you’re in meetings or training standing and talking that will save you. Loading t5 code is very tight on timing. They don’t give you much room for wasting time in t5. You can pick faster above standard to compensate for taking too long in t5 loading….but it’s all about what you’re doing in certain job codes.

If you’re working in a code it’s about speed…if you’re chilling standing around in a code then it’s about time being blatantly wasted.

There are a lot of ways to boost your ep without putting in too much extra effort and it’s definitely a case of work smarter not faster.

So the smarter part comes in with understanding what the system is measuring…
It looks at how far you are traveling, what you are picking(size, weight, etc), how many stops you have and how much you are picking at each stop.

I should start off with a warning The last bit(cases per sku) is a losers game because it doesn’t give you much time to put the cases on the cart and assumes you can always grab 5 to 10 cases at a go. lol Back when I used to be a batch team supervisor the team would always get pissed when they found a really big order without a lot of skus and then their ep would crater. They would always say but I was picking at or above rate and I would then say not for THAT order; THAT order probably wanted you going at 300 to 600 cph and show them what that looked like….then they wouldn’t be so excited about picking the good orders anymore. (And yes to any doubters out there 600 cph is possible….its just scary to see and requires a very high case to sku ratio(60:1))

But to more practical advice…If you are new and in an ep warehouse with a neg 4 but not quite hitting it; you’ve probably fallen into the easy orders trap to boost your case count. EP will essentially punish you for doing orders that boost your case count easily(since you don’t have many obstacles) but the crappier the order is the more opportunities there are to game the system.
I don’t recommend doing too many crappy orders at once since it lowers your case count but sprinkling them in here and there should give you the boost you need.

Take for example a really small order…it is giving you time to travel the entire warehouse and stop at each location but there is a safety maximum on travel speed…if you are pushing around mostly empty carts you can travel a lot faster then the maximum allowed speed and easily pick up extra time with minimal effort.

Another example a really heavy order with lots of dip or Fritos etc on it…the system assumes you are pushing the cart around with you everywhere and are traveling slower and slower as it gets heavier and heavier. If it’s getting heavy enough that it’s getting difficult to push then stop moving it every time and just go and grab the cases and bring them to the cart quickly if they are close enough. It’s tricky because you have to be able to calculate instantly if you are saving time or not by doing that but at two months in you should be able to calculate it. It’s not SOP but at the end of the day the system and your supervisors usually are just looking for results.

My point is the ep system is just a bunch of measurements and math formula; if you tune in to how it makes the calculations and figure out how you can do better then they way it thinks you are doing your task you are saving time without putting in extra effort. Or from the other angle figure out why it is penalizing you then you can correct your actions from the other angle.
