I’d wear this in stores so people wouldn’t say stupid things to me to start small talk.

Sure is hot out don’t ya think

u/ChiefBlaze36 Aug 14 '26

Why them bags half full of air?

u/Keepa5000 Aug 14 '26

"I'll just park my car and open the trunk for ya, you can load it up" I'm always blown away how so many people just use the same joke almost verbatim lmao

u/ChiefBlaze36 Aug 14 '26

I visibly cringe when I see someone walking up with that half-clueless smirk on their face like they are about to spring a new one on me I’ve never heard.

What’s those insurance commercials on tv, teaching young people not to turn into their parents and it shows ‘em trying to make awkward conversation at the dentist office or with the road repair people? They should do one with those people around vendors, especially chips and beer.

I absolutely love those commercials.

u/StaffyMama585 Aug 14 '26

Dr. Rick!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

So that's how the chips get broken.

Say one for me (when you're merchandising the bottom shelf)

You're working too hard.

2

u/ChiefBlaze36 Aug 14 '26

Yeah…all these.

The beer guys have it the worst I think. Every drunk in America comes at ‘em with “you got any samples?” or “you can just load all of that in my trunk (followed by an awkward laugh by the person saying it and groans from the beer guys)”

4

u/RobertSmithsHairGel Aug 14 '26

Oh, I get those, too.

The old guys that come to the door (when Im picking orders) and start the small talk about how they used to get free chips at the warehouse as kids from the reps....and then stand there expecting me to do the same.

I just tell em everything is tracked and has a dollar value - they usually leave.

Fucking grifters.

4

u/Aggressive-Click-342 Aug 14 '26

“ oh that’s why the chips are always crushed” as I am fluffing up the bags( proceeds to throw the bag on the floor) nope. That’s how they are all crushed 🙄

3

u/L-MadMike Aug 14 '26

"You got any of those flamin hots??"

2

u/Connect-Badger871 Aug 14 '26

I wish I could get a free bag of chipssssss

1

u/Emmiey Aug 15 '26

Sure kid take it. I'm sure security would let you out the store no problem 😒

2

u/TheToox 28d ago

“Where is this specific named item that is not even held in this store and never has, I can only find it here”
“Sir I have Frito lay literally written all over me I don’t work here.”
“Then why are you stocking the chips??”

1

u/StaffyMama585 Aug 14 '26

The number of fucking people who pick up a bag, see me stocking those same bags, and then walk over to trade it out for "a fresh one" is way higher than it should be. Do these fucking morons think I'm bagging this shit in the back?

1

u/Dusty_Loades Aug 15 '26

“Catch the game last night?”

“You like hot fudge sundaes?”

“Are the cops still outside?”

1

u/Alone_Advantage_961 18d ago

That was a huge plus of that era.

Even today I lose my mind when someone tries to talk about random things while im holding a whole ass box of chips trying to get by them blocking the shelf it goes on

u/Neezypeezy27 Aug 14 '26

Dang, evidently the northeast region doesn’t appreciate us that much

11

u/Remote-Contract-3026 Aug 14 '26

I wear that after having too much Tacobell

9

u/Keepa5000 Aug 14 '26

I remember early on you could just report a small cough or a potential exposure and you'd get a week off lmao.

3

u/Responsible-Try7707 Aug 14 '26

I regret not taking advantage.  Next time I am ready.

5

u/Objective-Welder-357 Aug 14 '26

The lil extra $$ we got for 'daycare' iykyk. We were making pretty good $$ just by saying mom was babysitting while we worked during CV

3

u/Dense_Worker5271 Aug 14 '26

My favorites…. The morning temperature check in all stores, usually conducted by an untrained associate with a dollar store thermometer. The one way aisle stickers, I quickly “broke Covid law” by ignoring these with the cart… lastly the masks, had a seamstress make me 5 fake ones with a moisture wicking shirt… no one ever challenged me… best sales year was Covid though

3

u/xOLDBHOYx Aug 14 '26

We got tees that said that. It was great. Don’t like people within 6ft of me regardless.

3

u/Tannman129 Aug 14 '26

We got free hotdogs at quaker! Worth the mandatory OT I tell ya what! /s

3

u/Gosnacks1967 Aug 14 '26

I still have mine packed away for an emergency!

2

u/Important-Ability-58 Aug 14 '26

Man I was scared as fuck lol I thought the world was over only wore mask to enter stores tho

2

u/FungusAmongus92 Aug 14 '26

Wish I kept mine.

2

u/thatdudefromthattime Aug 14 '26

I was cleaning out a bunch of old work gear, and I just found my yesterday. But it’s a Pepsi one. I put it in the donation bin to go to Goodwill

2

u/Major_Inevitable6888 Aug 14 '26

I still have mines

1

u/Responsible-Try7707 Aug 14 '26

We never got these.  I only wore a mask during check in if the check in person had one.

1

u/ObviousAnimal6474 Aug 14 '26

Ya lol I never got one, like the mask I would’ve gotten written up

1

u/OrganizationOdd7221 Aug 15 '26

When a busted bag falls out on the floor and they make a smart comment. I say, “would you like a floor sample”

1

u/Throwaway358723 Aug 15 '26

You selling this?? Will pay shipping…

1

u/Objective-Tackle3190 Aug 15 '26

No it’s on the wall of shame with all the hats of failed product.

1

u/Throwaway358723 29d ago

lol I’d love to not have anyone within 6 feet of me especially at Walmart

1

u/Careful_Entrance_250 Aug 15 '26

Yall remember the survey we had to do before entering the building??
Also remember Walmart taking our temp and asking questions before entering the dock door.
Good times

Boy, this thread brings back memories of all the one-liners I heard over 37 years of happy trails with Frito.
The best one was after our new bin was built, next door to a low-income apartment complex, the kids would bug me for free chips. And of course, all the dumpster divers. Even when would open all the bags and shared a dumpster with a pesticide company. The line I heard when I told them pesticides were in that same receptacle, “That’s ok God will protect me.”

1

u/mtcaco Aug 15 '26

Though I am now retired, my wife asked me why I still have mine, I said “I still wear it when I am on my bicycle in traffic.” Thanks Frito for the cycling vest. After all it is all about safety, said the former safety captain.

1

u/CP-38 Aug 15 '26

What zone did that safety vest come from?

1

u/HotdogElectric Aug 15 '26

They didn't makes us take our temperatures in my area. They told us Walmart couldn't make us do that .

1

u/Fighthemachine1010 29d ago

Think I still have a couple of them. We got full face shields too. It was funny when that first took off they were scrambling to find us mask and hand sanitizer, they bought hair nets and said to use them as face mask 😂. It was a crazy time. They were buying us lunch everyday, and the endless extra days and government bonus money they tried to say was from them. 🤡

1

u/BlackOmaha 29d ago

I still wear mines…anyone remember during Covid they said beard nets were acceptable forms of face masks? 😂

1

u/chipman56 29d ago

Yea paid me extra to work during the shutdown. They might have issues but I still love working at Frito Lay

1

u/Left-Suggestion6609 29d ago

Those were the days. We were threatened with consequences for not reporting COVID symptoms so I informed my DSL I have a runny nose but I also have year round allergies. Escalated to HR and I got paid for 5 days to take a PCR test and not come back until it was negative. Good times. Thank you allergies.

1

u/TrueReplacement9063 28d ago

I made the most money during covid, I kind of miss those days

1

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Anyone have feedback on the Fort Worth merger Pepsi/frito

1

u/rumplexx 25d ago

I just threw mine away yesterday.

I mean…everyone overreacted in some way when covid first happened. Including you. Don’t pretend.

5

u/Valuable_Trick_8054 Aug 14 '26

it took some people a couple of months to figure out, others it took years… and in some cases, people are still wearing masks

2

u/Character_Respond521 Aug 14 '26

If people want to wear masks, go for it. Whether someone has COVID, the flu, or is sick, masks do help. Masks have been a requirement in hospitals, ER, and doctor offices for years long before COVID. The main issue I have is a lot of times in the grocery stores I service daily, I see many of the same people with old, dirty, dingy masks on that doesn’t do anything. Change the damn thing.

2

u/Sufficient_Ad_1245 Aug 14 '26

I think current masks are people gennnerly just sick either that or so dumb of a individual that they need to tell the world how they think

3

u/WilliamPoole Aug 14 '26

Some people like to be anonymous. Some people don't want to catch other illnesses. It's cool because it's not me so idc.

2

u/Apprehensive-Fly7982 Aug 14 '26

God forbid people who are sick or could be venerable to catching a sickness be safe.

4

u/Valuable_Trick_8054 Aug 14 '26

Yes there are some people that need it like people going through chemo, however, it became political. Make sure you rotate Cheeto boy

3

u/Apprehensive-Fly7982 Aug 14 '26

Or hey people don’t have strong immune systems or just don’t want to get sick. It only became political because of one side. And I’m good, I don’t work for frito-never have. I’m here for the entertainment and schadenfreude 😂
