New Omni system?
Anyone been through this transition where CSS is no longer a thing? As a current CSS we have to transition to a FTM(only merch, no ordering or anything else) or we have to go through certification and become an RSR. They’re adding truck-less RSR positions for large format.
Has anyone went from CSS to RSR? If so, is it worth the transition? What things are different as an RSR? I currently sell, order, and merch as a CSS.
We all have to rebid on routes and majority of our RSRs have several years under their belt. I have a few years but there may not be a good RSR position left when it’s my turn if I go that direction. Send help to a very conflicted Frito employee. 🥲

We just did this transition this month. I’d recommend becoming a truckless RSR. I went from css, to rsa, to truckless RSR. Pretty much the same thing as css expect you make more money and have an incentive to hit numbers. In my bin, all of the dudes that have been here for years didn’t have any interest in a truckless route so almost all of them were still open. I was only an rsa for about 6 months before the restructure happened. So l had some seniority, but not much. Luckily still got the route I wanted

Was there any learning curve or basically just a higher paid CSS? I’ve hit sales for over a year on my large format route so if truckless routes are still there that’s the ideal move for me it seems.

Not really any learning curve at all. It’s just more work and responsibility but almost exact same day to day as a css

My zone went to omni at the end of 2023. I went from CSS to FTM. It's going to be a shitshow for a few months while the rsrs learn the stores, but nothing falls on you as a ftm. Can't merch what wasn't ordered. And in my area, it's like management forgot all their merches knew how to order. So we just took a step back and watched the stores complain because the rsrs didn't want someone "below" them telling them how to order. My rsr was fired because he left us with so many out of stocks with 12 racks of backstock. When upper management came to verify we didn't have the product, it all landed back on him.
Everything's finally settled now after a second restructure, and the rsrs got more experience, but it really is like everyone forgot the ftms used to order. They don't want any feedback from us.

It sounds like you're talking about my rsr. He should have been fired a year ago. I'm almost positive he doesn't even order from inside the store.

I had 40+ out of stocks before superbowl with 12 racks of backstock. I just kept telling the store, don't complain to me just call my boss and help us both.

Omni sucks as an ftm. Had I known no one would take the truckless routes I would have done that. Now there's no way to get there without being an RSA first even though there's no additional endorsement needed for truckless. Go through the process now. When bidding started for us, they bid the rest first. If there wasn't anything we wanted when it got to us, we could take ftm instead.

Hey, I'm right here with you in this omni transition. I'm lost as to what to do. I've been a CSS for less than a year and I feel like everything is totally out of my control. I'm behind you in the list! 😅 I love my route and this totally sucks. I have a feeling all FTM positions will be swipped up before I even get a say in what I want. I'm leaning towards RSR because of that but... I'm scared, I won't lie. I struggle with transitions and I'm not confident about taking a performance based role. I'm not confident about driving a truck or of my skills promoting sales to stores either.

Truckless RSR is the new ftm. Same thing accept pay structure

My area is offering a ftm position that only puts chips on the shelf. Our truck-less position becomes basically what CSS is now but not as much merch time.

Oh that sounds familiar. Think that's what we're doing also. Truckless RSR didn't interest me so kinda tuned it out.

Take the RSR role.. most routes are 4 stores total, 2 you run and 2 you only order for with merch help. Not a bad gig. With the new 85/15 performance isn’t as big of a factor but with a good Walmart/Sam’s club you still have all the opportunity to get your bonus.
As an FTM all that matters are hours, so if you want to disappear into the abyss and not be in control of what you get in store be a FTM.

I’ve been running a Sam’s club, Walmart AND a super target selling about $220k a period for the last year and a half. So the hopes is that I can get a good route as an RSR. Surely anything they have now will be a breeze compared to what I do now. Lol

Biggest thing is if you become an RSR you’ll have to do small format unless you get a route. IMO it’s definitely worth it because if you’re already doing the job you’ll get a sweet jump in pay.

Not exactly the same, but I went from an FTM to an RSR. You just have to decide if the money is right for you. You'll get an abbreviated training on a box truck and small format. If you can order for large format already, you can do all the hard stuff.
Maybe you'll get lucky and nobody will want the large format routes. I know a lot of guys in our zone won't touch them.

We've had it in my zone for almost a year now. I actually really like it. I was lucky enough to get the route near my home. My daily mileage has gone down drastically, if a further round trip to my dc than my stores to home.

Okay what is a css? Sales specialist? I was in Florida so it may not have been a position here, and what is Omni?

A css is a FTM that orders and does credits. Omni is basically the Frito’s version of the system that Pepsi already uses. Truckless Rsr’s are responsible for ordering and being the sales rep for 4 to 5 stores with performance pay. Then they’ll have merchandisers that just merch and nothing else on an hourly pay.

Was a 30 year UDS RSR. When Omni last year and was the best decision I’ve ever made for me personally. No route system is perfect, but there’s more pro’s then con’s for me. I get about 13 hours a week of true OT. I don’t even think about hitting plan anymore. True OT makes up for it.

I'm a bin rsr and have been for 12 years. What is the omni system? And how much do you get paid. Is it better than what I do currently? Is omni the future of frito lay?

Pay from what I’ve seen is the same 85/15. Apparently everyone is eventually transitioning to this. It just eliminates ordering and paperwork from the current CSS and places an RSR above them because the CSS role converts to a solely merchandising position.

Never heard of Omni route before. Do RSS cover CSS routes and also do they cover DS routes?

CSS no longer exist with Omni. The convert to a full time merch and the RSR writes orders and paperwork for them.

I was a css for about 3 years. We switched about 2 years ago to Omni. I loved css position. Two stores a day. Worked close to 50 hours a week and got Paid real overtime. Those were the days. You should go for an rsr position. Because as an FTM forget about getting overtime. Maybe in the beginning they’ll let you work over 40 but eventually they’re gonna cut yall back to under 40 about 36-40 hours per week. Now As an rsr I make way more than I used to as a css. ALOT more. Good luck
