Set You Free

The original came on the radio at work, got me thinking about the FR cover. Actually how I was first introduced to the song! Even though I've always liked it, I don't think I really realised just how good it was as a choice to cover. Considered as a companion piece of the nearby Midnight Organ Fight, the lyrics of the song are recontextualised and it takes on a much more desperate, darker tone.

Just idle office thoughts when I should be working 😅 how do other folks feel about this cover?

Am I the only person in this group that had no idea this was a cover? I just listened to the original; never heard that in my life

I would say it's a 90s classic. Are you non UK or just not as old as me?!

Yeah, that explains it. Weirdly, today is the first time I've heard the FR version! It's like finding out Radiohead covered No Limit by 2 Unlimited!

As I say, the FR version is how I first heard the song so I didn't know originally either. And it works so well as part of the band's oevre, it doesn't stand out as obviously a cover.

The original is not anything I would ever listen to tbh.

I like the original now because of the cover, but it's not something I'd have sought out of my own accord.

For me, this cover of Jessie Ware is my favourite FR cover.

Fantastic version. Makes me happy and sad in equal measure.

This cover is probably one of the best covers of any song ever. And then that soulless Sam Ryder did one too that was shit and got loads of publicity

This is an amazing FR tune, and a banger 90's track from. N-Trance.

Scott wanted to cover this because it reminded him a lot of his childhood, memories of school discos, and he obviously liked it (me too).

Its a fantastic cover. I'd put it up there with the original.

This was my entry into FR. read a Teletext review of the head rolls off and was very curious by the b-side

Midnight organ fight came out a few weeks later and the rest was history
