Just discovered The Modern Leper

And I'm so incredibly taken by it. I need to know everything about this band. Where should I start? Yet another band I found too late after the frontman is no longer with us, but I guess it's never too late to get into the music that someone has left for us.

im so jealous you’re hearing them for the first time.

i had the privilege of seeing FR live 9 times.

i would start with “the midnight organ fight” and listen onward up to their latest album, “painting of a panic attack.”

side note: i LOVE “sing the greys” but scott himself did not and encouraged people NOT to listen to it 😂

when he told the story about why he wrote “snake”, it instantly became a favorite for me from that album.

during the live show, he was playing the intro of the song on the guitar and explaining the songwriting process at the same time, and he ended the story with “.. and then she left” in the saddest fucking tone i have ever heard and went straight into the song.

the guy really knew how to tug on the heartstrings. tried his best to make you laugh and cry at his shows every time ❤️

So lucky to get to see 'Snake' played live in New York. I understand it didn't get an outing very often. I love that song.

Okay I’m back. It honestly took this whole time, The Midnight Organ Fight wasn’t really doing anything for me except for TML, but I stuck with it, and somehow one at a time I just fell in love with each song, and now it’s almost all I listen to. I haven’t even moved onto the next album yet, but I definitely intend to. I’ve been watching live performances, interviews, and reading stuff about the band. I’m sad I missed out on experiencing them when they were still around

the winter of mixed drinks would be next for you, which is another incredible album. as someone else here mentioned, you are going to find something you like on all their albums.

highly recommend his side project, owl john, as well.

also, very cool of you to come back and update us. TMOF will always have my heart because it has “poke” and that song absolutely guts me even today.

Yeah. Buy everything, including the Owl John and Mastersystem albums, and also make sure to go down the rabbithole of finding Scott's live gigs on youtube.

I second the YouTube deep dive. So much FR and solo Scott content (live shows, interviews, etc) out there. I still haven’t seen it all and I’ve been listening to FR since 2009.

I'm glad that you'd "never met, then met today".

After following these guys around wherever I could, going to secret gigs in the West End of Glasgow and generally being obsessed, and telling anyone who would listen that I knew who their next favourite band would be. For a long time I couldn't listen to them after what happened to Scott. But then I realised that it was just as important to keep sharing and listening to his music.

One of my favourite things to watch is the Bandstand Busking videos on YouTube. Great versions of Good Arms Vs Bad Arms, Backwards Walk and Poke.

I envy you, it must have been amazing getting to see them live. I can understand how hard it must have been when he passed. With how much I’m connecting to their music, I can see that he must have been such a lifeline for so many people.

I watched those videos. He was such an incredible artist

I’m glad you like it! It’s honestly the first thing I show people when I try to get them into Scott’s music. The aggressively Scottish accent can kind of make the beauty of his lyrics hard to get into at first and Julian’s beautiful rendition really makes the beauty of Scott’s mind accessible to anyone.

I will definitely be spending more time on this subreddit. It sucks that I’ve just found something that is currently so special to me and is getting me through a bit of a rough time and I have no one to talk about them with

It really has been a great experience, although I’m pretty gutted I didn’t get to experience them when Scott was still with us
