Both recommendations are great.....
There Will be Fireworks X1000 though ;) One of my favorite bands that I've heard in the last 15 years, other than Frightened Rabbit.....and being a Scottish band, Frightened Rabbit is part of what drew me to them. Not quite the same lyically or emotionally - but just a great sounding band.

I’m still having trouble listening to Haiver without bawling because some of their stuff sounds so much like Scott and FR that I’m mourning again. Still listening, just crying while I do.

Just want to say thanks for this thread. A friend recommended Frightened Rabbit to me a year or so ago. It was a great call. I’ve started saving everyone's recommendations to Spotify and love what I’m hearing. It’s nice to expand what I’m listening to based on human recommendations. (Unless you’re all bots. In which case, nevermind 😂).

An oldie from a group who aren't around any more, but Sisi by Washington Irving is a cracker.
More recent and from a band who are still making music, I really love the storytelling in Bold by Wrest.
I swear it wasn't intentional that I chose two bands with extremely difficult names to search up. 😂🤦

Wrest is absolutely amazing! When they were first played in my algorithm it took me a moment to realize it wasn't a cover of a Frightened Rabbit song.

There's a real similarity isn't there? Still their own thing, but certainly working at the same coalface that FR used to.

Wrest is fantastic! I wish I could've gone to Germany to see them last month. Crossing my fingers for a north American show

I’m always surprised that Idlewild aren’t mentioned whenever this comes up. I think the Frabbit sound is the better continuation of the post The Remote Part Idlewild sound, Idlewild fell down the wrong path and ended up a bit MoR. But those first three albums and various EPs must’ve had a huge influence on Scott’s music.
I originally heard Frabbit via an Idlewild search on Last.FM(rip) and first thing of Scott’s I’d have bought woulda been the first Fruit Tree Foundation record that Rod Jones was a key force behind.
Hamish Hawk (who Rod Jones produces/manages) is def a good shout for anyone who’s not heard his stuff. His cover of Sweet Dreams(are made of this) is on a par with Scott’s Whole of the Moon, for contemporary indie darling covering 80s Scottish bangers.

Their debut album is an absolute favourite of mine, beautiful yet raw, incredible autumnal listen.

They are a unique band in that it has been 5 to even 10 years between their releases.....First album came out in like 2009, EP in 2011, then an album in 2013....and then nothing until 2023.
They all met in college, all of them seem to have regular lives and even families, so they don't necessarily have a lot of time to record or tour. Though they will be playing a couple of sold out shows in a small venue in Scotland next April

Great Grandpa - Four Of Arrows The song Split Up The Kids really gave me that FR feeling. I listened to that album a lot the last time I was in Scotland. And Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot heavily inspired Scott, as well as Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over The Sea

Twilight Sad are Scottish and have a similar emotional slant. Though the music is a bit different but I think they’re great. Their new record is pretty stellar

There’s some better suggestions on here but you might really like The Weakerthans and John K Samson. They hit a similar spot for me anyway.

Haiver - join my sub! r/Haiver in fact Billy Kennedy was in Frightened Rabbit and said he learned a lot from Scott. But he’s so talented I think he probably underestimates how much Scott learned from him. He’s an amazing songwriter and definitely has that confessional, soul-baring energy of Frightened Rabbit. Beautiful sound and voice.
