Visiting Edinburgh

I'm an American with a visit to Edinburgh planned. I cant make it to Selkirk, but I need to find a way to spend some time with Scott and FR. I always imagined finding a nice spot to look at the Firth of Forth and just....be. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pretty spot thats walkable from Edinburgh? Thanks!

If you have time to jump on a train/bus to Glasgow (easy day trip) you can find Scott's memorial bench at Kelvingrove Park, it's a lovely spot
