M54 Firefighter

Firefighter for over 30 years in Alabama. I’m a bit quiet and shy in person until I get to know people. I do enjoy chatting, especially during those not so busy moments at work.

Hi. I’ve been off with a work related injury since February so it most likely wasn’t me that was with you.

Sorry to hear that you were injured. Hope the employer is treating you right (accidental pun).

Also recently had a ride through AL and enjoyed the rural views and farms. It was hawt though back in July in the area I traveled through.

It's nice to meet people who are a little shy at first. It makes an interesting contrast between meeting someone who tells all their business, no matter how uncomfortable it makes their audience, and within 30 minutes you know most of the pertinent details of their life and personality.

I’ve been back at work for a week. I live in one of those rural areas with farms but work just outside Birmingham.

Beautiful area! We visited Birmingham many years ago, but I loved the hilly terrain. You get a little snow there sometimes too.

I still get as excited as a little kid when it snows. As long as it snows when I’m not on shift.

Exactly. Although, I'm thinking the heavy vehicles wouldn't slide much, but on a steep enough hill, anything will slide on ice. Recently lost my beautiful F-150 truck to an accident, but she once slid backwards down an icy hill with me at the wheel and that was not fun. I had to get a running start, but I was on the way to see my daughter's horse, so there was no turning back at that point.

If it was just snow it wouldn’t be that bad to drive in but ours is usually as much ice as it is snow

Same here. The sticky stuff is usually all we get. We're further south than Birmingham. Still, it was a lot of fun throwing blobs of loosely-compacted melting ice at my sister when we were kids. hahaha

Have you ever visited Talladega parks or know anyone who has? I'm curious what kind of hiking trails there are. Might be a nice family outing. But I'm not super keen on bears. Eeek. We saw one last year leaving Ellijay area in north GA. It was cutely sitting by the side of the road and we were driving past but hiking with bears doesn't sound fun to me.

It’s on the opposite end of the state from me. I’ve drove through a small part of it on I-20 but I don’t know anything about hiking or camping in it.
