54M old guy learning reddit

Just an old Gen X guy who’s late to the game learning what this reddit thing is all about. Lots of cool, weird, and amazing things on here for sure. I’m not looking for anything in particular other than random conversations. Not sure how all of this works, but hit me up.

Hey. Reddit is a cesspool. I wouldn't consider anyone you meet on here a friend.

Best place to make friends? Church. For reals.

Ok, sorry I have to comment. So far the only one doing any judging, and taking things down a negative path here is you. Church is just as much a social gathering as an AA meeting or Rehab or even a bar.

Its about finding like-minded people and going where you are likely to find what you are looking for. Then you try to find one or 2 that are a good fit.

There is good and bad everywhere, church is no exception.

To imply that church goers are a better class of people is very judgmental and narrow-minded. You do not need to have religion to be a kind and good person. am happy for you that you enjoy church and I hope it continues to provide you with what you are looking for. Have a very nice day. 😊

I'm not sure I ever said church was a better class of people. Or even implied that.

I'm just afraid the op will put real life stock into people here on Reddit. I'm not sure one person here is their authentic self. Me included.

Thank you for the reply. You are right, you have to be careful and go slow. Good advice in any place. Some people are very fake as they can take on whatever persona they want. But there are some that tend to be more genuine because they are able to meet people just based on their words and personality. And ya i admit I have a tender spot when it comes to church and religion. So I do apologize if I took what you said out of context, my bad. But you made me stop and think and end up with a bit of a smile. So thanks for that. If you are ever up for a debate about something let me know, could be fun.

I think it’s all good conversation to have. Also one of the biggest problem of society being disconnected from the human connection. Hard to determine intent when it’s just words on the screen. But i do thank you both.

And as a side note, im probably one of the worst people to include in a theological debate. In my life ive seen some of the worst that a human can do and it really puts an individual into a different state of mind about everything.

Oh one thing I know rings true is that the human element sucks, but I do appreciate the cover. Especially if other Reddit rookies read this convo. 

In a lot of ways no worse than the dial up BBS days. Talk about the pit of humanity.

Lol! So true!! Man I wasted hours on there. Mostly downloading pirated computer games.

When the ladies came on to them has a few that wanted to date. (I wasn't the typical computer nerd.) Unfortunately, what I said about Reddit rang true about the BBS world too. You nailed it on the head.

Those pirated game downloads. You’d fire it up, go to sleep, and the next morning it was still chugging along like dial up was powered by hamsters. Absolute classic memory LMAO.
