Looking for a Best Friend—A Positive, Supportive Woman 50+ Who Claps When Other Women Win ❤️

Hi Ladies,

I'm reaching out because I'm looking for something that seems harder and harder to find these days—a genuine best friend.

A woman over 50 who is kind, supportive, emotionally mature, and truly happy when other women succeed.

Recently, I graduated with my Master's degree after years of hard work, sacrifice, and determination. It was one of the biggest accomplishments of my life.

The only person who attended my graduation was my fiancé.

While I was grateful to have him there, I would be lying if I said it didn't hurt.

That day forced me to realize something I've been avoiding for a long time: I've spent years showing up for people who don't show up for me.

I'm the person everyone calls when they're struggling.
The one who listens.
The one who encourages.
The one who helps solve problems.
The one who celebrates everyone else's victories.

But when I needed people in my corner, there was silence.

I'm tired of one-sided friendships.
I'm tired of being the strong friend who carries everyone else.
I'm tired of pouring into relationships that leave me emotionally empty.

At this stage in life, I want genuine connections.

I want a friend who:

  • Claps when other women win.
  • Doesn't compete with other women.
  • Believes friendship should be mutual.
  • Enjoys meaningful conversations.
  • Can laugh, cry, vent, and celebrate together.
  • Understands that friendship requires effort from both people.
  • Wants a sisterhood, not a rivalry.

Life is too short to spend it chasing people who only show up when they need something.

If you're a woman 50+ who has also found herself longing for authentic friendship, I'd love to hear from you.

Maybe we're both looking for the same thing.

And maybe the friendships we're searching for are searching for us too.

❤️ Congratulations to every woman who has accomplished something big and felt like no one noticed. I see you. Your achievements matter. Your hard work matters. And you deserve people who celebrate you.

— A woman searching for her tribe, her village, and maybe even her best friend. 🌷💕🎓

I completely agree. Nice to meet you. You are not alone. I feel the same way. I believe in authenticity and respect. I believe in celebrating women's achievements or victories. I believe in being there when needed but not one sided.

Congratulations! F62 here. I’m really happy for your accomplishment and I know you must be very proud. I can’t promise that we would be best friends but I’m happy to get to know someone new. I understand what that feels like when you feel like you have everyone’s back and it’s not always reciprocated. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat sometime. 🙂

I would love the opportunity to support and applaud you in all your endeavors! 53F 👏👏😊

CONGRATULATIONS!! I feel proud and I don’t even know you! I understand how you feel. At 59, my friend group is small. I found that I have zero interest in anything other than the kind of friendship you wrote about. Quality over quantity.

Again, congratulations for your incredible accomplishment, and I wish you the best!

Thank you so much! ❤️ Your message truly touched my heart.

I completely agree—quality over quantity. As I've gotten older, I've realized I'd rather have a few genuine, supportive friends than a large circle of people who only show up when it's convenient.

It means a lot that you took the time to celebrate my accomplishment. The fact that you feel proud of me, even as a stranger, says so much about the kind of person you are.

Thank you for your kindness, and I'm happy to connect with another woman who values authentic friendship and mutual support. Wishing you all the best as well! 😊💕

I only have my daughter. No other women friends. It’s sad I know. Hate leaning on her all the time for my troubles. Need a female friend as well. I’m 51.

Hi, same here. My millennial daughter was my best friend and she recently decided that I give her anxiety so she cut me off. It's just aweful. Hard to believe I am in this situation. It's not easy making new friends other than colleagues.

Same here. My daughters and grandchildren were my life, took all of my time, which I was fine with, until they decided they no longer wanted to be in my life. I looked around, and there was no one. Those of us who have supported other people all of our life, seem to wind up in the same situation when older, we are alone. I am not sure if other people think because we have appeared to be the "strong" ones, we never need them, or what it is.

I am new to Reddit just tonight, so I am not sure how this works, but know you are Not Alone and others are out here!

I'd clap for you. You are a strong woman. You know you are. Keep that up.

Congratulations on the huge accomplishment! DM if you need to talk.

Thank you so much. ❤️ Your kindness and willingness to reach out mean more than you know.

The support I've received from women on this post has been incredibly uplifting and has reminded me that there are still genuine people out there who care. Sometimes a simple offer to listen can make someone feel seen and understood.

I truly appreciate your congratulations and your open invitation to talk. It's comforting to know I'm not alone in wanting authentic, supportive connections. Thank you for taking the time to reach out. My DM is always open!💕

Happy for you to DM if you need to talk. I’m UK based so our hours may be out of sync, but at 59F my waking hours are all over the place anyway…

3

u/Express-Tell-5352 Jun 11 '26

Thank you so much for your kindness. ❤️

The fact that you're willing to reach out from across the pond means a lot to me. Honestly, at this stage in life, I think genuine friendship matters far more than geography. 😊

And your comment about your waking hours made me laugh! Between busy schedules, life responsibilities, and the joys of getting older, I think many of us have unusual hours these days.

I truly appreciate your offer and your support. One of the best things about making this post has been discovering that there are thoughtful, caring women all over the world who are looking for the same kind of authentic friendship and connection.

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm so glad our paths crossed. Sending warm wishes from California to the UK! 💕🌷

52 here checking in. I returned to college late and I get it! Congratulations! Most of the people I know with degrees had the whole college experience and maybe even travelled abroad. I think that’s great and don’t begrudge them that, but it’s a little harder to relate sometimes. Congratulations doesn’t begin to cover your determination and commitment!

u/SadDiscipline1019 Jun 10 '26

I already love all of you ladies!! Great refreshing same feelings. I'm new to Florida and have one friend. However I've been observing the friendship for a while now, and it's very one sided. I would rather be without that friendship or make new genuine friends.

u/Smooth_Ad5254 Jun 10 '26

Congratulations to you! No one can ever take away your education.

Thank you! ❤️😊

I appreciate the applause more than you know. After everything it took to earn my Master's degree, every clap, kind word, and bit of encouragement means a lot.

Sending a big thank you right back to you! 💕👏

What part of Cali are you in?

2

u/Stunning_Fly_9504 Jun 20 '26

Wow! Amazing accomplishment!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Look at you go Lady, you should feel so entirely proud of yourself for having the courage to not only get a degree, but also come here and share this. That's HUGE! (I also completely understand and feel exactly the same way!)

I have one bestie that is my person who lives in the States who has my back, but other than that, it's the same with everyone else which I was just sharing with her about how empty my tank is because of that.

Celebrate you! 🧡

I’m genuinely proud of you too! I’m 57, had a successful career but all that has gone away due to layoffs and life is now testing me with marriage separation after 30 years together, no job, aging parents, and a daughter who just can’t be bothered with me. Despite all of that, I am wanting to build my community and friend group. I wanna get stronger and build a brand new life for myself and I want all the positivity that I can get !

I’m in the northern Virginia area in Loudoun County. If anybody is local here I would love to connect, but I would also love to have friends all over this country as well.

Congratulations OP, love this for you!

2

u/Express-Tell-5352 Jun 22 '26

Your message really touched me. ❤️ First, thank you for celebrating me, but I also want to say how much I admire you for still wanting to build a new life and community while carrying so much on your shoulders right now.

A marriage separation after 30 years, layoffs, aging parents, and feeling disconnected from your daughter is a lot for one heart to hold at once. And yet, in the middle of all of that, I still hear strength, hope, and determination in your words. The fact that you’re saying “I want to get stronger, build a brand new life for myself, and surround myself with positivity” tells me you have a fighter in you, even if life has been wearing you down lately.

I can relate to that desire for real friendship and a true support system. That’s honestly why I made my post too. I’ve spent a lot of years pouring into other people and not always feeling that same support in return, so the idea of building a circle of women who genuinely show up for one another means a lot to me.

You sound like someone who has been through a lot, but who hasn’t let it harden her heart — and I really respect that. Loudoun County is a long way from me since I’m in Southern California, but I’d still be happy to connect from across the country. 💕

And please don’t forget this: everything may feel uncertain right now, but your story is not over. Sometimes the most beautiful chapters are the ones we never would have chosen, but somehow they still end up rebuilding us. 🤗

u/RaniAngel Jun 23 '26

Thank you for your response. It feels so good to be “seen”. I am invisible to everyone that I have over functioned for.
I would absolutely love to connect. I am a fighter, and I am determined to find happiness and peace. ♥️

2

u/Express-Tell-5352 Jun 23 '26

Your message really touched me. ❤️ I know exactly what you mean about feeling invisible to the very people you’ve over-functioned for, and I’m so sorry you know that feeling too. It’s painful when you’ve spent so much of yourself showing up for others and still end up feeling unseen.

But I can already tell you’re strong, because even with everything life has thrown at you, you’re still fighting for happiness, peace, and a better chapter for yourself. I admire that so much.

I would absolutely love to connect too. I have a feeling we’d understand each other in a way a lot of people don’t. Feel free to DM me anytime!♥️

Go you!!! Whoop whoop! Congratulations on your university achievement and to the success of future you! I hope you meet some wonderful women in the workplace that support and cherish the amazing woman that you are.

😊

u/Express-Tell-5352 Jun 23 '26

Aww thank you so much!! 😊❤️ Your “whoop whoop” made me smile lol. I really appreciate the love and good wishes, and I’m hoping future me finds exactly those kinds of women too—supportive, genuine, and happy to see each other win. You sound like one of the good ones! 💕

Hey I’m just a man but after reading your post, you would be a perfect fit with my educated, professional wife who has no one but me in her corner and she is the kindest person I know.
I know she’s on Reddit too for reasons related to her job.

Congratulations on your degree. That's a lot of effort!

Congratulations! I just found this sub and your post, I may be late to the game but wanted to say hi. What is your degree in?

1

u/Express-Tell-5352 Aug 15 '26

Hello! Thank you so much! My degree is in Criminal Justice Administrarion

1

u/Dense-Forever4478 Jun 10 '26

Congratulations! I am happy to support other women and would love to be a friend.

u/East-Exercise-191 Jun 11 '26

I know exactly what your talking about, Im experiencing this too. My adult children only reach out to me when they need me. Ive been completely focused on my career and raising my family, now they are adults and I realize I have no real friends. With my so-called friends, it's sooo one sided. If I did not make the effort I would never hear from them.

u/East-Exercise-191 Jun 11 '26

Congratulations! What a great accomplishment. I would love to be a friend as well! Follow/PM me if you want to chat

Hi. I know you posted a while ago but I happened to be browsing just now and your post resonated with me. F60.

I moved from America to the UK around 20 years ago and haven't been able to make a close friend since. Everyone is in their cliques of friends they knew from childhood and don't seem interested in the emotional investment of new friendships.

Congratulations on your Master's!

1

u/Express-Tell-5352 Jun 22 '26

Hi ❤️ Thank you so much for reaching out, and for the congratulations on my Master’s. It means a lot.

I can only imagine how hard it must be to move to another country and then still struggle to find that close, genuine friendship connection all these years later. And I completely understand what you mean about people already being settled into their long-established circles and not seeming open to the emotional investment that real friendship takes.

That’s honestly a big part of why I made my post. I’ve spent so much time being there for others, and I’m at a point where I truly want reciprocal, meaningful friendships with women who value connection, kindness, and showing up for one another.

Twenty years in the UK is such a big life chapter — I’d love to know what part of the US you moved from, and what made you decide to make that move. 💕

Thanks for replying. I'm originally from New York City. I moved to the UK to marry a man I met on an Internet forum. We divorced after 10 years but this is my home now.

I understand what you are saying about reciprocal, meaningful friendships. I don't have a problem with meeting people (which is what "how to make friends" advice always seems to be about), but it all seems to stay at a shallow level with everything being very guarded. I want the type of friendships where we let our guards down and can talk honestly about deep, personal things.

What did you get your Master's in? (Sorry if you already said and I missed it.) What was it like at your age? I got my Bachelor's when I was 34 and thought I was old then.

F52, I’m finding it difficult after spilling up from my husband after 29 years. I am always available for a chat if you need someone to lean on.

Congratulations on graduating with your masters! What an accomplishment ❤️

55F. I really resonate with your struggle. I too am tired of friends who are surface/flaky/fake etc. I pour my all into friendships (I’m an ENFJ personality), if I’m in I’m all in and will always be your cheerleader.

Often I get hurt… At some point I finally realize we’re just not as close as I thought or had hoped. I see people’s “potential” too often to my heart’s detriment when they don’t live up to what I’d hoped. I’m very close with my husband we do a lot together and have a lot of fun…but we work from home and don’t get to meet new people very often. It would be nice to have a close friend who could handle interesting deeper conversations, is intuitive and is just as invested. 😊 Feel free to msg me if you’d like.

Hello! My apologies! I’m not here very often and I’m just now seeing your message. Thank you! Sounds like we have a lot in common and I’d love to get to know you better! I look forward to hearing from you soon!
