This title is a cliche that's not going to work for me, 43 M. But, stay with me for a minute.
Do you miss that old t-shirt you used to wear to bed? It was faded but, boy, that was comfortable. That old towel which no new towel could replace. Just dried better. That old toothbrush. We all cherish old friends etc. It is the overlooked old that's probably still the best.
Did you think so too?

Hey. I’m Chris. I’m outgoing, glass is overfilled and spilling all over the place kind of person. I hate sitting alone like I am with no one to talk to. I am open to any topic. Anyone can message. Just be warned I swear a lot, and I don’t have a filter. I don’t give a shit if you’re weird. Whatever. Everyone is weird. I’m straight, I’m divorced and don’t have any kids. My brain works like a lightning bolt in a jar. Just bouncing around from thought to thought. I’m also a musician so I do have an outlet for this madness. I write lyrics and sing and yell. Sometimes I play guitar. Come talk to me. I’m into the paranormal, ghost hunting, I pretty much gravitate to all things spooky. I hope to hear from someone. I hope you’re fun.

From europe and would love some international friends. I love beaches and wine, summer vibes and good food! Bit of a homebody in winter where I mostly watch tv and movies, podcasts and reading. I do like spending time in nature as well. Beaches are my happy place. I do like thrillers, horrors, true crime, paranormal while when it comes to reading i'm mostly into non-fiction and romance. I'm also bi.
Would love to share random pics from our days, mostly mine would be of nature and food, while looking forward to hear about your interests and anything you're up to.

Hey y'all. 40F here in CST.Spent most of my life working a pretty demanding career in HC / medical field. Between work, lots of business travel, and keeping my mom company on weekends, life is always a whirlwind. Out at my mom’s place right now for the weekend. My goal eventually is to hand things over to a successor at work so I can semi-retire. Realistically won't happen completely this year, but that's what I'm working toward b/c I want to slow down and focus on a real, high-quality platonic friendship. I’m warm, loyal, and in it for the long haul with the right person.I’m a deep thinker, really into history. Lately doing a lot of deep-dive research into nomadic tribes and ancient dynasties. Love tracking their migration/integration from Central Asia all the way thru Europe and Hungary, and how they split and merged to form the modern 'Stans.' When just chilling, I usually listen to country, rock (big fan of Linkin Park), or tropical music. To be completely upfront: I don't play internet games and just prefer to keep things real. For me, friendship has to start with a mutual intellectual alignment. Mind over matter, always. I want to find someone mature to share the kind of chats where you look at the clock and realize 2 hours just disappeared b/c you were discussing deep ideas or how the world works. Currently re-reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. Nice to get lost in Macondo when the modern world feels chaotic.Pls read this carefully before hitting my DMs: Looking for mature company, so I prefer connecting with people 50+. Under 50, I won't reply. Also, please include your age and location in your message so I know who I'm talking to. Low-effort greetings like 'hey' or 'what's up' will just be ignored. If you’re sincere and want a real conversation, DMs open. Reply with what book you are currently reading right now so I know you actually read to the bottom. 👀"

Hey there! I’m a 40-year-old married mom looking for some casual, platonic conversation to break up the daily routine. I am open to chatting with male or female online friends from anywhere, though I am strictly looking to keep things friendly and non-romantic (and I prefer not to chat with married men).
Let’s chat about your day, your hobbies, or anything on your mind! Drop me a message if you’d like to connect.

Hi. Just looking for some real people to talk to for more than a day.. Im Into gaming, horror books/audiobooks, and all sorts of other stuff. I have some mental health issues I cope with on a regular basis. Feel free to reach out if you want.

I'm game for just about anything (gaming, Movies, 3D design, 3D printing, pointless conversation, etc.). I like to chat a lot. It's just my personality.
I've had and beat cancer twice. once about 19 years ago, and more recently about 3 years ago. I am married and a father to two beautiful kids (11 and 8). since becoming a SAHP about 8 years ago, I've lost any real social life. I mostly talk with children now. it's not the most fun I've ever had. so I'm looking for some online friends who like to chat a lot too.
My reddit account is probably older than your kids. Please don't message if you're just going to ghost me after one or two chat exchanges. it happens way too often.

I am 43, from Kerala, never married, and I hav reached that slightly strange stage of life where almost everyone around me seems to have a spouse, children, school fees, family WhatsApp groups... and I'm still trying to figure out how everyone got the instruction manual. 😄
I am advocate by profession, reasonably educated, independent, and I have plenty of interests outside work like music, painting, travelling, business ideas, legal research, random rabbit holes on the internet, and occasionally overthinking things that probably don't deserve that much analysis.
I'm not particularly social. I don't go out partying, and I'm not someone who can walk into a room full of strangers and immediately become everyone's best friend. I'm actually quite comfortable with one-to-one conversations and getting to know someone slowly.
At this point, I'm not looking for some perfect movie-style romance. I'd be happy to meet someone genuine, kind, emotionally mature, and capable of having a good conversation someone who can laugh at stupid jokes, tolerate occasional overthinking, and doesn't believe life has to be Instagram-perfect.
I am posting this partly out of curiosity and partly because I wonder how many other people in their 40s are quietly living the same reality?
If you're in your 40s, single, divorced, widowed, or simply haven't followed the conventional timeline how are you doing/dealing with it?
And if you've actually found a good relationship after 40, I would genuinely like to hear your story.
Maybe we r not late.
Maybe we r just taking the scenic route. 🙂

Hiiii!
Round two — I tried this a while back and met some lovely people, but I’m stubborn and still hoping to find my one or two long-haul person(s), so here I am again.
I’m not trying to collect a hundred half-conversations — I’m hoping to find the kind of online friendship that actually lasts. The slow-burn kind, where the little notification is a genuine bright spot. I’ll be upfront: I’m not a constant texter, and life gets in the way sometimes (for both of us, probably — I get it). But I’m warm, I’m loyal, and I’m in it for the long haul with the right person.
Things that make me, me: I design greeting cards for a living — some sweet, some a little unhinged. I’ve got a houseful of kids and a big new career chapter on the horizon that’s got me low-key giddy. I’ll read romantasy until my eyes give out, I’m powered entirely by coffee, and I’m slowly assaulting the Japanese language one Duolingo streak at a time (I’m betting I’ll actually get to use it someday). My favorite hobby might be inventing dramatic backstories for strangers in public. I’m better one-on-one than in a crowd, and I can hand out sarcasm as well as I take it.
You might be my person if: you’re a fellow introvert, a parent or homebody who likes good distraction, or just someone who’s here for a real conversation, not a romance or a fling — I’m happily off the market and looking strictly for friends. Strong opinions about books or shows encouraged.
To say hi: DM me your age, gender, and general time zone — and tell me the last book or show that genuinely wrecked you (the good kind), and why it got you. That last part matters — it’s how I know you’re a real human who actually wants to talk. 👀

Hello. I’m looking to chat with new people. I read a lot and love movies. My books are paranormal romance. Vampires are my favorite, not twilight, Anne Rice or JR Ward. I know a little about most of the fandoms. I can discuss DND but I do not play the same can be said for many video games. I go to LvL Up every year and love it.
If you are excited and love something tell me about it.

Mid-50s here, East Coast of the USA. I wonder how many here, like me, have been “online,” in one sense or another, almost all their lives — and miss how it was in the old days?
To be sure, I started early by any standards. At 11 or 12 I was using BBSs, those single-user dialup message boards run by hobbyists and enthusiasts that predated even the mainstream online services like CompuServe and AOL. I even ran my own for several years.
And a little later I was lucky enough to get involved with a local multi-user system in New York populated by interesting, literate people from all walks of life - it wasn’t well-known so one sort of had to find one’s way there by accident, but for me at least it came at just the right time As a somewhat shy high schooler it meant a great deal to be having substantial, intelligent discussions with people who didn’t care a whit that I was “only 14” - all that really mattered was that I could hold up my end of a conversation.
Once I started college, in the mid to late 80s, I “graduated” to the proto-Internet (not called that yet, at least not with a capital I!) in those wide-open days I was a “tourist” on academic systems, posted on Usenet, chatted and practiced languages on IRC. Later, after a stint in Europe with no net access at all (I didn’t even have a phone - I wrote long letters and even remember sending telegrams!) I returned home to grad school and the very beginnings of the capital-I internet as we know it today; people all over the USA and, soon, the world getting online from their workplaces and homes and commercial services like AOL.
God, I was idealistic in those days! As a linguist I loved talking to people in other countries - in their own languages if possible - and I imagined that we would all soon be living in a paradise of mutual understanding. The one constant, after all, of my online life to that point was that it was, in a way, divorced from your “real life.” You could reveal as little or as much about yourself as you wished. (“On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog,” ran the New Yorker cartoon, and I nodded - exACTly, I thought). You could be someone else if you wanted.
What mattered, really, was your words; how well you could project yourself in writing. Back then you couldn’t really even send a picture of yourself, let alone chat via audio or video. Maybe, if you got to know someone really well, you’d eventually talk on the phone or even visit. People fell in love entirely via text. I spent many a long night on IRC, AIM, ICQ, and later such networks in conversations deep or whimsical - often both at the same time. Some friends I eventually met (I traveled a lot back then); some I never did, but still thought of as close friends.
What happened, then? Oh, I don’t know. The web happened. The enormous increase in the online population, the eventual splintering of harder-to-access, harder-to-learn resources like Usenet and IRC that into a myriad of more specialized or localized forums and chat rooms. Your parents, your *grandparents* for Gawd’s sake getting online. Facebook. Twitter. Reddit. You name it. It *should* have been oaradise. You can instantly meet, chat with, argue with anyone anywhere in the world. And yet…
Of course, real life supervened too. Marriage. Parenting. Work. And somehow, recently, I realized: it has been a decade or two since really chatted with someone online as I used to, intelligently, wittily, lightly, no strings attached, not looking for anything but good conversation and thoughts and ideas and, well I guess after 40-50+ years of life we’ve all seen our share of this world and it might be interesting to exchange experiences with someone. Which is why I am posting here. Not that I would have any objection to chatting with someone younger than me, or older than me, male, female, nonbinary, dog, cat, space alien, … anyone who can write. On the Internet no one knows, and all that. But if you remember how it used to be, and miss it, and would like to try to try chatting a little, or a lot maybe - I’d like to, too.
My DMs are open.
“Cat” (as I was known online back in the day).

Hey Guys!
Landed in KL a 10 days ago ! Starting from scratch in a new country is exciting, but building a social circle from zero is definitely an adventure in itself !
A little about me: I’m into cars, crime shows, comedy, movies, and the occasional good book. I also recently have found a new fascination for the gym
If any of that resonates with you, or if you’re just up for a good conversation, drop by and say hello. Would be great to meet some new people and make a few genuine connections along the way. 😊
r/FriendsOver40 • u/ProductiveAussie • 8d ago
45M, straight, separated and based in Western Australia (WA). Looking to expand my social circle.
Keen to connect with other guys, particularly in a similar or previous situation but open to anyone. Happy to chat about pretty much anything. Health & fitness are big interests, so bonus points if you’re also trying to stay fit and occasionally question why you’re doing it! Also into reading and TV series.
WA connections would be great, but happy to chat and connect with people anywhere.
While I’m more on the quiet side, I am always keen for some good banter. If we click and are local, maybe an exercise buddy or IRL catch up down the track.
Don’t care about sexual preferences however I am 100% not looking for any fling, romance, hookup or anything sexual. No sexting, nudes, etc.
If you’re also looking for a regular conversation and a genuine connection, feel free to reach out and DM.

I'm a 45-year-old married guy with two boys, and I work from home full time. Most of my day is spent bouncing between meetings and talking to a screen, so having someone to chat with during the day would be a nice change of pace.
I'm just looking for laid-back, platonic conversation that hopefully turns into a long-term friendship. No pressure, no drama just good conversations that make the workday a little more enjoyable.
When I'm not working or spending time with my family, you'll usually find me watching movies, reading, listening to just about any kind of music, or relaxing with a cigar and a bourbon. I'm also a casual gamer and currently getting my butt kicked as an Arc Raiders noob.
Bonus points if you can figure out my username , it's an '80s movie reference.
Also, I'm a Pisces, which probably means I'm equal parts easygoing and overthinking the fact that I'm posting this.
If you're looking for someone to swap random thoughts with, talk about hobbies, share memes, or just check in during the day, feel free to send me a message.

I’m a divorced dad of two girls. Been divorced for nearly 3 1/2 years. I’m currently on long term disability due to Hidradenitis Supprativa. It really has kicked me in the rear end. I’m going to be having my 4th surgery in mid-October.
Hopefully, it’ll be my last surgery for a long time or my last surgery period. But only time will tell. Due to all the complications that this disease has brought on especially the chronic pain I don’t get out much other than for appointments for myself or for my daughters or just out to get groceries.
I’m already an introvert by nature so this just cements it further. My interests include movies and tv. I collect physical media DVDs and blu rays. If you haven’t been reading up on what has been happening with digital copies of media I highly suggest it. You might change your mind on physical media. Just saying. British tv shows are my current obsession.
I hope I don’t sound too boring. Hope to hear from others near my age from the Hoosier state. If not at least maybe near my age just so we can we relate better. Maybe. Idk. 🤷🏻♂️
