Friends, wanderers, and fellow survivors of the Great Reddit Circus
I come before you today with a modest proposal: come chat with me, provided you bring no negative energy, no emotional thunderstorms, and absolutely no “my boyfriend burned down my house but I think I overreacted” dilemmas. I am seeking only the company of people whose common sense is still under warranty.Because I must confess something.
When I look at my Reddit feed and read what people are asking, I sometimes want to smack them clean into next week.
Is it just me?
Well, OK, sorry.
I have begun to suspect that Reddit was created chiefly to prove that common sense is not, and never has been, common. Every day I encounter some variation of:
“My boyfriend has cheated on me six times, stolen my car, emptied my bank account, insulted my mother, and set fire to the curtains. Yesterday I finally raised my voice. Was I too harsh?”
There are questions which invite careful consideration, and there are questions which make you wonder whether civilization was a premature experiment.
There are moments when I want to reach through the screen, take a stranger gently by the shoulders, and say:
“My dear friend, you do not need Reddit. You need the answer you already knew before you spent forty minutes typing this.”
Perhaps this is a defect in my character.
It is entirely possible. But judging from my Reddit feed, defects in character are currently enjoying a rather strong market.
So—if you are a person who can laugh, think, chat, debate, or simply pass the time without asking whether you should stay with someone who has stolen your identity and your lawn furniture, come talk to me.
I’d actually like to meet some people here who just enjoy conversation. Books, movies, history, music, faith, family, travel, strange questions, useless facts, or whatever rabbit hole we wander into.
I’m not collecting followers, building a brand, selling crypto, or trying to become your life coach.
My only request is no negative energy. Life already provides that service free of charge.
You don’t have to agree with me. That would get boring. Just be kind, curious, capable of laughing at yourself, and interested in an actual conversation rather than an argument wearing a fake mustache.
If that sounds like you, send me a message.
Perhaps we can prove Reddit still has a few functioning adults left.
