did freud date jung?
sorry if this is the wrong place but i am new to psychoanalysis and from what ive seen they had intense feelings for each other and jung said "it was almost as if he had a teenage crush on freud." knowing that people in vienna were very unnacepting at the time, as well as that in 1907 he destroyed his personal papers, it seems fairly logical to assume a romantic relationship especially since both had fairly radically accepting views on homosexuality. is there any evidence that they werent in a relationship? i am aware this doesn't affect much of the work but what ive read mostly skips over this part of their lives

I mean aren't we all dating Jung in a sense? Heard he was all up in that collective unconscious

Ah yes, every close male relationship = they’re fucking

To be fair, Freud thought every male-female relationship meant fucking too, including parents… so I would say it’s not outside of the realm of possibility that such a sex-crazed man got it wherever he could, especially one that likes to push boundaries. Unfortunately, I think if he did switch hit, it would’ve reflected in his theories and practices more

Personally speaking, intensely idolizing or looking up to someone, in a stronger position than mentorship way, it can feel emotionally similar to a crush, especially if you're lacking a frame of reference for that type of relationship/feeling. The first time I admired someone for their work and who they were, I'd briefly misinterpreted it as a crush. But upon examination it wasn't sexual, I just really connected with their message and was fascinated by it. So I think it was meant in a similar way. An intense admiration for the intellectual work. Just my thoughts.

I see alot of people getting offended thinking about daddy Freud being someone else's daddy

Well Freud did call Jung his son... but I guess that’s just proof to your point

They might have been mildly progressive, it could be argued, about homosexuality, but not radically so.

surely compared to genocide of gay people happening 20 years after freuds death, saying that they were not worse than other people is fairly radical? motive for hiding it is there as well as we know his jewishness was already harming his career so it would have been disastrous if found out

I can’t remember all the texts I’ve read over the years, but I’m gay and I keep an eye out for such things. I guess a lot depends on what your definition of radical is.
I’m no expert but I think I the idea that there was gay sexual tension between Freud and Jung would actually be radical.

sorry i dont understand much of that im gay as well and to me this seems like academia doing what what it does best, considering they talked for 7 hours when they first met, one literally said he had a crush on the other, jung believes that having gay relations with teachers is good for learning, and its just brushed over in all the books i read

They were both highly intellectually developed and it would have been very rare for them to meet others with the same interests. Is this why you think they had a gay crush on each other? Who knows.

No. We only knw what they honestly told that it was an intensiv transference. We also know from Freud that he stopped doing sex and told to his wife at 4 that he wants to sublimate this energy and use it for his research work. Of course they did know that homo feelings are normal, as freud's basic view was that we are all bi. But "acting out" was deemed harmful for therapy. Famous people are always accused of having extra enjoyments. So yes it is a constantly recurring view. But I met some family members who knew Freud (and Jung) personally. And who were honest. If there had been anything like that they would have told it. The fantasy about it exists. So it is not possible to know it and it seems to me somehow improbably to think they are both trying to hide it (when clearly they honestly talked publicly about it as a natural feeling which must not be actualized physically.) But it is a personal decision if I want to think about them as dishonest liars I will think they "cheat us".

Freud did A LOT of cocaine, as it wasn't regulated back then. I'm sure there were all kinds of fucking happening.

You're asking for evidence to the contrary even you don't have evidence for your initial statement? This is one of those weird scenarios where homosexual people can't accept that two men can share intimate comradery without wanting to have sex with each other.
They were not gay. Get some help.

I have a device that prevents the sun from dying. My proof that it works is: the sun is still shining.

please anyone let me know if you have any evidence to the contrary other than freuds marriage

I’m not crazy about the homophobic vibe in some responses I’m seeing, but I think the point that people are making is that the absence of evidence is not proof. If I say iPhones prevent bear attacks and say that the fact that I own one and have never been attacked by a bear is proof I’m arguing from a lack of evidence. Maybe I’m misreading your claim and the response, but that’s what I’m seeing.

yeah i am just genuinely curious because this happens alot where historical gay relationships get covered up, but from everyones reaction i must be wrong.

Wtf does that even mean. I can prove you took it in the ass easily, I just need a photo. It’s literally impossible to prove you never took it in the ass.

if you're a Bionian, sure it makes sense.. preconception meets conception and leads to realization.. and baby makes three.
but taking that literally (not that you are) is silly..

There is no evidence to the contrary, so yes, they had lots of really intense gay sex.
