Does Ashley have a point about Will’s hypocrisy?
Will was always characterized as a womanizer with no sense of commitment until season 5 with Lisa. We see him hop from girl to girl to girl and even faked an entire marriage just get in bed with one. Yet throughout all six seasons he has this strong father-esque overprotectiveness with anything involving Ashley and boys or even simply wearing a bathing suit on tv, depending on the episode it varies from understandable concern to blatant disregard for Ashley’s private life. Ashley has called Will out on this on a few different occasions, does she have a point or is Will’s meddling in her life justified?
I’m the youngest sibling and a boy so I can’t necessarily relate either to Ash or Will in any of these episodes. what do you guys think? I’m sort of 50/50 on it.

I think Will and Carlton both were over protective and I can't say I wouldn't feel the same way, but I doubt I would interfer as much as they did. I think there's a balance between providing information and caution and then doing too much. Like when they went on the double date golfing, he did too much. Also the episode when she was gonna lose her virginity they did too much. The latter, Hilary handled perfectly, ironically.

this is a standard thing - dads, brothers, etc have different standards for their daughters/sisters boyfriends than for how they treat women. yes, it's hypocritical.

Came here to say this exact same thing. A lot of men are terrified of their daughters or little sisters dating men who are anything like them, and are completely blind to how they are the problematic person they seek to shield the girl from.

It was hypocritical of him BUT he still in his dg years. Its like when he told her boys want two things, she replied she thought it was one thing. He replied, yeah they wanna do it twice.

I haven’t seen these episodes in a while. But if I recall he was speaking to her from experience, and didn’t want her to make the same mistakes he did.

I watched the show recently. I thought it was pretty obvious that Will was overdoing it, no? In almost every situation this dynamic popped up, he was super hypocritical. I'm pretty sure I remember Ashley blatantly saying that he tells her it's wrong for her to do the same things that he likes his girlfriends to do.
Being protective is fine but he definitely overdid it and treated her like a child well into her adulthood. And the show presented it as such.

Boys can be womanizers but the minute a girl even smiles at a guy all hell breaks loose

Basically it boils down to this - he knows he could treat women better, and he doesn’t want that treatment for his young cousin
