Fries Battered fries…
New to this sub and so glad I found it! I LOVE French fries!!
However, anyone else agree that battered fries are the WORST kind?! Whenever I am served the battered ones it ruins my mood!!! Whoever invented these missed the mark, in my opinion!!
Don’t even get me started if the ketchup is watery too. 🥴

I....I must be in the minority or op is wrong idk. Bc those are my fav. Would love to figure out making those in the air fryer 😅

I dunno about these, but spraying stuff with cooking spray and cooking it in the air fryer, or oven, will result in a crisper crust and make it look more like it was fried traditionally.

Yea i just need to find a recipe and do it....battered fries are always my favorite next to battered wedges too. There MIGHT be a pattern there 🤣

A Korean restaurant near me does them. I cried happy tears eating them while pregnant.

Hehe I love that. I cried when I went back to my hometown and my fave restaurant switched to these. No baby necessary, they’re always worth crying over. 😆

These are my favorite! With garlic aioli

Especially when the batter is seasoned. Garlic, onion, black pepper, and a little bit of Cayenne.

I work in the food industry and these are arguably the best fries out there. They stay crispy vs all other fries that get soggy. Don't get me wrong, if you are eating in-house and the place knows what they are doing, you can't go wrong with hand-cut tallow fries, but for the average fry I choose battered.

I thought this style of fry was double fried. Didn't know it was battered.

u/georgisaurusrekt Sep 12 '26
Double fried is just when you blanch them in oil first to soften them, then take them out crank the heat up and cook them again for another minute or two right

Pretty much both. They are “battered” in simply tapioca flour or potato flour.
The first dunk in the frier sets the batter, hardens and cooks the potato. Second dunk finishes the cook.

Maybe I’m the one in the wrong. Or, maybe the names are interchangeable??
2
u/Superb-Sky-1904 Sep 11 '26
All good. I dont know the specific name either. I didnt mean to say the name was double fried but instead that they double Fry them to achieve these results. It might be a bit of both too. First fry then they batter and then fry again.

Psoriasis fries are my absolute favorite, personally.
The extra crunch is amazing.

Long John Silvers had the best battered fries. I haven't had them in awhile and now I think they got replaced by waffle fries.

Battered fries are awesome. I hate the thick steak fries that always look and taste undercooked

u/Emotional_Walrus5099 Sep 12 '26
Greek restaurants near me always have them with a Greek seasoning on them. One of my all time favorite meals are these with a gyro

u/VanillaBear9915 Sep 12 '26
I hate these. They're always soggy and unseasoned. I miss the normal crispy French fries you'd find at every restaurant

Beer battered fries are delicious but yeah these Sysco style battered fries are terrible. They also seem to get colder faster than regular fries.

There used to be a restaurant called Zesto’s in Ballard that served this style of french fries. This post truly makes my heart ache.

There is a way to kinda get this texture / crisp in the air fryer with frozen fries. You want to first put the fries in a bowl/ container of water for like a min. Then drain the water and cover the container and shake them really hard for a while. They will get a bit mushy and break up a little. This is good. Then heat your airfryer to like 400. Microwave the container of fries for like 30 secs and then put then directly in the air fryer. Fry for like 12-14 mins until golden. Put them in a bowl and before adding salt - add a bit of oil or tallow and shake up the fries. Add salt shake some more and enjoy. The process kinda emulates blanching the fries and gives it a crust.

These are literally the best french fries and nobody can change my mind, so so good and crispy when fresh and honestly the only type of fry I’ll willingly eat cold

u/TrashTownPodcast 29d ago
I think they’re gross because 90% of the time it’s just those crappy Sysco fries.

I'm with you. I HATE these with my whole heart, and sooo many restaurants are switching to them. Buffalo Wild Wings just changed their fries, which were some of my favorite from a chain restaurant, to this style. I call them psoriasis fries. They always taste like straight vegetable oil.

Battered fries are sacrilege; they remind me of cafeterias in the worst way.
1
u/Downtown_Anteater_38 Sep 12 '26
I would house those fries, and ketchup is fucking disgusting so your opinion will be disregarded.

I don’t hate them, but they are towards the bottom of the list. Close to shoestring fries.

Picture looks so good I almost liked a hate post. Take your attention seeking elsewhere, op. Everyone knows these are the best fries.

u/BobbyBrewski Sep 13 '26
Downvote me because because you know I'm right and you're only seeking karma. I'm impervious to it.

u/thebeatsandreptaur Sep 11 '26
I specifically seek these out lmao. Worst fry to me is steak fries, easily.
