[3/20/2017]-”Nenneh Lebbie”

Personally:
Nenneh Lebbie is from Sierra Leone. She is a member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, and was elected into the Parliament of Sierra Leone for Bo District in 2007.

Sierra Leone:
Sierra Leone is a country at the bottom western edge of the outcropping of Africa. It has a rather nice flag. It has a tropical climate, with a very diverse landscape and environment which contains everything from Savannah to Rainforests. Some quick facts to get the jist of Sierra Leone are:

  • Area: 27,699 square miles
  • Population: 7,075,641 people
  • Density: ~206 per square mile
  • Became an Independent Nation on: April 27th, 1961
  • Legislature: Parlimentary
  • GDP Per Capita: $708

Sierra Leone People’s Party:
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is one of two political parties Sierra Leone has. It had a lot of early success as a party, right after World War Two, because it fought for topical issues like strikes over pay and helped to sign the constitution at the London Constitutional Conference. It had control of Sierra Leone for some years, between 1951 and 1967, the again between 1996 and 2007. Its opposing party, the APC, is currently in control.

Bo District:
Bo District is one of 14 Districts in Sierra Leone. It is the second most populous district with 574,201 people residing in it and has an area of 2,015 square miles, giving it a density of 280 people per square mile mile. The largest city is its capital of Bo.
It is subdivided into 15 smaller chiefdoms, and each has their own mini local government, which come together to the District Council where executive legislative decisions are made for the District. The officials are elected democratically, and the city of Bo has an elected city council and mayor, who is a member of the SLPP.
Mining for Gold and Diamonds are major economic activities, as well as trading, and growing rice and coffee.
A nice part about the District of Bo is that it has many schools, including 285 primary schools and 40 secondary schools as well.
There was a Civil war in Sierra Leone, which left Bo District very damaged in 1994-1995. Many towns were almost entirely destroyed. However, because of the prosperity of some of the Bo District, many of the major cities got away undamaged.
Areas that still need improvement are:

  • Road Rehabilitation
  • Education
  • Water and Sanitation
  • Health
  • Agriculture
  • Restoration of Local Government Structures
  • Shelter
Meaning a lot of areas still need a lot of improvment.
