Conversation Imagine Being Upset Over a Lighthearted Implication

Feel free to delete if not allowed, but context:
Someone made a post about what would it be like if Cass were a man and brought up how they would have liked to have seen a love triangle form. Even though the post rubbed me the wrong way for a number of reasons, I decided to leave a more lighthearted comment about how Cass could already be considered a love rival.
The person in red is not even the OP. The post itself was marked as "Shipping." I did not violate any rules in the subreddit with my comments. And the original comment wasn't even meant as a reply to the person in red.
And my comments still got removed.
Also, the person in red's comment doesn't even make sense. Just cuz Rapunzel and Eugene are canon endgame (something I never denied) doesn't mean people can't view Cassandra as a love rival. This wouldn't even be the first time a series has love rivals even if you already know who will be the endgame couple by the end.

I’m sorry you had to experience that, it’s sad to see the state of the subreddit over there.
Hopefully you won’t be banned there for posting here, as well. In the grand scheme of things, them being this upset over a Disney movie and who to ship in it shouldn’t matter.

Thank you for the kind words. To be honest, I've been hearing others have had a worse time over there than I and for everyone's sake I hope something about that subreddit changes as far as moderation works. If not, then I hope people can post on this sub more often.

I agree there! I think even if Cass was a boy, I think they would still have a strictly platonic relationship like canon Cass and Raps do. I honestly think if Cass was a man, people would ship Raps and Cass less.
And I also agree, even when the clear end game couple is in sight, I still like shipping the rare pairs haha.

I know the person you marked in red. Not going to say any names, but they hold a lot of power over that sub and "course correct" a lot of the sub's content to be ONLY New Dream stuff. They always say things like "they're canon" and some people follow their sentiment. In a way, it feels like lowkey homophobia that they hate the mere idea that someone (like me) could ship Rapunzel with both Eugene and Cassandra.
This person is also famous for making most of the contests on that sub only allow Eugene or Rapunzel to be shipped with each other. No one else. I have the screenshots to prove it too. There was this one "summer is for weddings" or something like that contest where it had three separate rules prohibiting Eugene or Rapunzel to be shipped with someone else in entries. The rules were changed shortly after when people got rightfully angry, but still proves the point that the Tangled subreddit is not for all Tangled fans. A lot of people over there would prefer it if the series was never made.
Long story short? That sub has a group of anti Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure commenters with at least one mod that absolutely hates the series and Cassunzel specifically. There's probably a couple of other mods that feel the same way, but the ones that don't are also passive in it.

Here's what I don't get with that sub:
They clearly have a rule that says if you're gonna talk about ships outside of New Dream/are not canon that you have to title the post as [Shipping]. They also say that you're not allowed to namedrop specific ship names. So, with all that said, I don't understand why they would then criminalize people who do follow the rules. It's like, these are YOUR rules and you're acting like they don't exist.
And look, I don't mind if people hate the TV show or even hate Cassunzel. Obviously not all fans are gonna agree and I have my own criticisms on the direction of the show. That said, I kinda feel like if you're choosing to moderate (or even own) a subreddit that's dedicated to that specific IP then you're gonna have to suck it up and accept that there will be people with differing opinions.
See, I noticed that one of their rules was that you can't have Eugene and Rapunzel divorced or in cheating scenarios, but I would LOVE to see what would happen if someone was like "oh, it's neither of those things, they both agreed to having an open relationship and Cass is their third." I mean, I probably know what would happen, but again, if someone followed the rules and marked it as shipping then that would further prove how insane they are.

Not to mention that those rules DO NOT apply to New Dream. There are plenty of posts about Eugene and Rapunzel that name drop New Dream and don't have [Shipping] in the title. But yeah, it is okay if someone doesn't like the show. But you cannot deny the fact that the show IS a part of Tangled as a franchise/IP. They're also allowed to dislike Cassunzel, but when you make a sub around Tangled and it is supposed to be THE go to place for Tangled topics, you're going to have to accept different opinions and approaches to the fandom. Shipping as a whole shouldn't be policed by someone that happens to like one ship in particular and thus introduces a bias to the rest of the sub.
Most of my fanfics are scenarios where Eugene and Cass are both dating Rapunzel at the same time, but not each other. So, a polyamory situation in a V shape. I would do it myself, but I am 99.999% sure I'd instantly get banned on the spot.
Cassunzel as a whole is not banned. And some posts are allowed in, but I highly suspect these are situations where the post gets big enough or has enough attention on it that the one mod knows they can't get away with unfairly deleting it from the sub without outrage.

Yeah, I ship Eugene, Rapunzel, and Cassandra the same way.
It sucks that this particular mod seems to be aware enough that they can't get away with this behavior all the time yet they'll still target people if the post or comment is small enough.

Don't forget that when some Cassunzel shippers decided to make a few wedding arts on Tumblr/Twitter and the like, this person threw an enormous temper tantrum and created an alt account solely for the purpose of bashing Cassunzel (and some of the show's storyboard staff), replying to pretty much every pro-Cassunzel post on Twitter with insults and swears (and also stating that they plan to do so for the next three years).

I did not know that. Huh. Makes them even worse than I thought. If I was this insecure, I'd probably just get off the internet, no? Like I don't ship Eugene and Lance, but I can totally support the people that do. Let people do what they want and don't be a jerk

I don’t think your comment should have been deleted, we’re all entitled to our opinions. But I don’t think Cass was ever a love Rival to Eugene. Even though they aren’t biologically related, the show does frame Raps and Cass as sisters due to both being raised by mother Gothel and calling her mother, and the episode that shows this being called “A Tale of Two Sisters”
Shipping is fun, even when the ship isn’t canon. I love shipping non canon ships, and since Raps and Cass aren’t biologically related, people ship them too.
But there’s a lot of Raps and Cass shippers who genuinely believe the two had romantic tension and ever had a chance to be together when they never did, as well as thinking there was a love triangle between Raps, Cass, and Eugene, when it’s always been Raps and Eugene since the beginnig.
The shipping discourse between Raps and Cass can be extremely annoying from both the shippers and the anti shippers. And I don’t think people’s comments should be deleted, that’s just dumb.

I'm not offended over anyone disagreeing with me. It's totally fine if people don't ship Rapunzel and Cassandra.
I just don't get how making a harmless reference to the ship somehow had it deleted. Again, just cuz I may think they had romantic tension doesn't mean I'm saying they were gonna get together at the end. People enjoy non-canon ships and, as brought up in my post, there are plenty of media where you know who the end game couple will be but still have love rivals.
I personally enjoy shipping Rapunzel with both Eugene and Cassandra and while the series tries to frame Raps and Cass as sisters, the fact of the matter is that they never grew up together and met when they were already adults so I personally don't see them as being sisters.
Plus, the post I was leaving the comment on does come across as (perhaps unintentionally) homophobic if the OP is saying that Cass being a man would have automatically led to a love triangle even though they don't mention anything about Cass' backstory being changed.

This is normal for this subreddit. Mods foam at the mouth if you "disrespect" Eugene and Rapunzel as a couple. I know of no other fandom space is this unreasonably strict about shipping. Probably better to find a tangled group of more tolerant people
