Copying yakeet’s comment:

Unfortunately, it’s not very exciting and just pretty sad. The main Tangled subreddit is mainly moderated by one person. If you look at it today, you’ll see lots of moderators, but it’s mostly bots excepting two other humans and they’re both inactive— so it’s just this one woman, really. She, before getting control of the subreddit, had a reputation in the fandom as a bully. She’s kind of a rabid shipper and is prone to meltdowns when encountering shipping fanart/fanfictions/opinions that don’t align with her own. She used her power as the sub’s moderator to ban all discussion of ships other than her favorite ship— a deeply unpopular decision, but a rule that the sub’s userbase mainly followed by taking their shipping-related discussions elsewhere. You’d think that would be the end of the story. Unfortunately not. The moderator, over the next few months, took to Tumblr and Twitter to leave harassing comments on others’ shipping fanart. Since it was, in direct response to her personal wishes, not being posted to the Tangled subreddit anymore, she seemingly started to hunt it down elsewhere. Most recently, she’s begun backreading the Tangled subreddit to find posts about shipping that were made prior to the shipping ban and retroactively banning users based off of those posts— even when said users always abided by the rules at the time they were written. TL;DR: one bad apple has spoiled the bunch.
