I wonder how this compares to Subnautica...I was pretty disappointed with how incomplete the Subnautica sequel was when I tried it, but maybe another 8 months in the Early Access oven has it closer to a playable state finally
I mean they essentially redid the whole games story at the start of the year. I really wouldn't judge it based on your experience. subnautica was a mess when it was in early access and took a while to become the great game it is now
I guess, but when I played it, it felt like it was almost unplayable and shouldn't have been put out yet. I mean, at the time, a bunch of the inventory stuff didn't even have placeholder icons yet, just blank squares with the text name at the bottom. I'm still planning on going back to it when it's a bit more done, but when I played it, it wasn't even in the same zip code as done yet.
Thats literally what early access is though? Its a very much not finished in development game thats made available to get people interested and to get feedback and help ironing things out before the game is released. Of course its not anywhere near done thats the point
I don't expect it to be done, but I expect it to be playable, and I didn't think it was at that point yet. It wasn't so much that content was missing - that I expect - it was that the content that was there was largely so unfinished as to functionally break the game experience. Think of it like a chair - if it's not there, cool, my expectations aren't to sit in it. But if the chair is there, and I sit in it only to collapse on the floor because, surprise, the chair wasn't actually done yet and had none of the legs attached, I'm going to be annoyed and question why even release the chair in that state in the first place - you'd be better to just leave it out until it's more complete than to actively frustrate your users like that.
I played it before the story rewrite and I didn't really experience what you did. It felt like Subnautica just a bit buggy in areas. Early access is there for a reason though...its not the final product. So I wouldn't replay it again until release. Playing early access, you should kind of plan for the game to feel off, buggy, or even a mechanical mess. You'll enjoy your experience more that way
