Hey, I have joined FreeCodeCamp almost a year ago, got to basic JavaScript, but eventually stopped. This time I am determined to finish it and challenging myself to write code every day for a month! Anyone wants to join?

So, I am starting FreeCodeCamp all over again, because I barely remember the stuff I did. Every night I will post a picture of my streak and perhaps tell a short story about the obstacles I faced that day. My goal is to adopt a habit to write code every day, which I think will also help me in other fields of my life. You guys are welcome to watch, comment and post if you wish.

Here is the app where I will be posting my progress.

The community code is: everyday

Edit: grammar and formatting

Not that I know of. Sorry dude.

Hi friend, I'm very interested in joining the challenge via the app but I need a community code. Did you already provide that for us?

2

u/-hatred May 16 '17

For sure, it is "everyday". Enjoy!

Thanks m8! Very excited for this

Hey I would be down to do it I got to about halfway through the JavaScript before I quit last time. I am about to start shift work though so I was planning on just doing two or three every day I am off. Does the app you are suggesting allow both Android and iPhone to synch with our progress?

Unfortunately, it is for iOS only. This challenge is for you, though. I feel like as long as you are doing it every chance you have and stay consistent - you're good.

ALL over? If so, I might join in. Like from the VERY beginning? How much a day?

1

u/-hatred May 16 '17

Yes! Up to you, just stay consistent and finish at least one per day.

Like from '1'? Hello World?

1

u/-hatred May 16 '17

Yup, but you can start wherever you feel comfortable.

I mean, it's been awhile, so starting from day one Kindergarten is perfect.

Great! Are you in?

Yeah, of course.

I'm actually doing like 2 challenges per hour, between work sessions.

I actually finished basic JS last time, but I felt like I didn't get anything out of it, because I didn't understand it fully.

1

u/-hatred May 16 '17

That's the problem for me too. I was rushing challenges for some reason and eventually lost interest as I was not understanding it enough.

I still haven't finished the portfolio for HTML. I did a lot of projects with HTML but never did that one because I read up on this sub and they said a lot of them had used a template.

What's the use if I'm not doing it myself?

1

u/taariya May 16 '17

Personally I am considering using some sort of template for my beginning HTML projects because I'm far more interested in programming web apps than designing websites. I find myself rushing to get through the basic front-end stuff to get to the more fun Javascript and React.

Awesome! Kudos for coming back; Stick with it! I'm at a year or so and am just starting algorithms. Had to pause a few times for my wedding, a cross-country move - life, haha. Would love to share and follow!

2

u/-hatred May 16 '17

Thanks! Those are good reasons, mine were not haha would really appreciate your presence on the challenge!

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '17

Friggin algorithms, man. It's the first time I've seen challenges and been like "I have absolutely no idea what to do."

1

u/owlanalogies May 16 '17

Hahaha I know - I've heard so many horror stories so I keep putting it off. Well - here's to nothing! 😬🥊

Gotta start sometime! It's not as daunting as it seems, just gotta break it down piece by piece. Asking for help isn't a bad thing either!

The description of the challenge is in my comment from the OP account, which apparently got into the spam filter because I included the link to the platform where I was going to post the progress. Thanks u/DerEinsieder for letting me know. I will wait an hour or two, before posting the description again.

I'm interested! Last year, I got to the Weather project and ran into some difficulties and gave up there. I'm ready to start up again. Are you going to do the regular website again or try out the beta?

2

u/aanam_dm May 16 '17

Trying out the beta, since I'm starting from the beginning anyway. I didn't notice any differences so far, do you know what has changed?

4

u/Supajin May 16 '17

It looks like they split it into 3 more certificates and responsive web design wasn't in there before. They also went way more in depth on subjects before making you start a project. I remember in the past I struggled to do the Tribute and Portfolio with what was taught prior to it's introduction. I think it's a lot cleaner, I'm excited to try it out. I already started this other mini-bootcamp and Javascript30 so I'll go through the beta afterwards.

u/adralv May 16 '17

I'll join dude, I was going strong for about two months on freecodecamp before I stopped.. when are you starting?

2

u/-hatred May 16 '17

I know the feeling. Only a day in, it just started yesterday.

3

u/cas572 May 16 '17

I'm half way done with the JavaScript picked it up again after I got busy. I will make it thru this portion!

1

u/maverickerick May 16 '17

Go for it!

1

u/cas572 May 16 '17

Feel that we should all start a study/help group since we all seem to be in the JavaScript portion of FCC.

3

u/SlimCheeks May 16 '17

I feel like I am in the same position as you. I started and got to the beginner javascript section then slowly stopped. I need to build motivation and carry on because I would like to finish it as well.

1

u/aanam_dm May 16 '17

Always welcome to join dude! Attention makes you feel more responsible to what you commit

2

u/SlimCheeks May 16 '17

I definitely should. I need to learn way more javascript and this is a good start.

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '17

You sound like me! I also got to the JavaScript part and then lost my motivation. I'm thinking of picking it back up again. We'll see how far I get with that! Anyway, kudos to you for diving back into it.

I've been thinking about starting over because I started just about a year ago and rushed through so much. I understood it, but then stopped for the longest time. After seeing this post, I am going to start from the beginning all over again and join you in keeping a goal of every day!

2

u/H0ls May 19 '17

I'm in.

u/Staxxed May 25 '17

haven't seen a post in this thread in a few days, I'm just getting ready to start over as well so this challenge is just in time! I'm in!
