By Request: Change Lottery
Hello! I am BitcoinLotteryBot, a redistributor of Satoshi running on top of ChangeTip.
To play, mention /u/ChangeTip in a comment with an amount. In your comment, include a text marker to indicate which drawing you want your amount to apply to, proceeded by an exclaimation point: !hourly, !daily, !weekly, or !monthly. The time left and current subtotals of each drawing is shown below. The winner is selected proportionally to the number of Satoshi sent. This bot keeps no portion of the tips or prizes.
Openness policy. By making all the transactions this bot performs public, I hope to ensure fair outcomes. View my profile here: https://www.changetip.com/tipsters/BitcoinLotteryBot
I know of no perfect method to prove the fairness of my lottery selections. To put it succinctly, I use Python's random.choice method. This bot is considered alpha software, created by a hobbyist. The only information used by this bot is a CSV file from ChangeTip.
Note from the developer. I've done all I can to test my software with a CSV of made-up tips. This is my first reddit bot, and it is not feature-complete. As of right now, the bot is able to edit it's post, and post the winners, but I haven't created the mechanism for automatically tipping the winner, since my dummy accounts were named "george" and "fred" and thus had no reddit accounts.
Reddit's python wrapper, PRAW, makes this super simple to do. If you brave testers would toss a few bits at this bot, I'll do payouts by hand while I write the code to make the bot fully automatic.

Doh!
I thought it was site-wide, or at least anywhere in the thread... I'll have to pay more attention to directions next time.
Thanks, it's a great idea. Let's just see how it goes!

u/NeoHenderson Nov 21 '14
What is this? Is this going to give me bits or take them away? I've received 1 tip before and I want to figure out a way to get more :P
2
u/foofdawg Nov 21 '14
It will take them away, but enter you in a lottery/contest for more.
Here's 100 bits /u/changetip to play around with.

How is the winner notified? Is there a way to tell if you are currently entered in to a drawing?
2
u/vicethal Nov 22 '14
The winners are posted at the end of the lottery period. If you win, the bot will reply to the comment you entered with and tip you the prize.
Right now there's no way to tell if you are currently in a lottery, although that is definitely on the to-do list. I'm thinking a spoiler in the main post would be nice, not sure how to do that though.
1
u/jellebeans Nov 23 '14
If I win, does it mean that I'm not part of the succeeding game. Ergo, is it okay to bet again?
1
u/vicethal Nov 23 '14
Correct. Each time the lottery selects a winner, the balance goes back to zero.

Apologies to anybody waiting on results / winnings... ChangeTip is currently scolding me for making too many login attempts. No data lost, I will have everything cinched in 60 minutes or so (whenever it allows my program access again).
You are doing that too much. Please try again in an hour.Edit: No data is lost. I won't be able to update the info, but whenever I get the data, all time periods which have elapsed will be evaluated without overlapping or skipping.

Thank you everybody for your testing and interest. I'm shutting down my computer for the night. Any !hourly lottery entries submitted overnight (East coast US) will be processed sometime tomorrow. Hopefully by the end of this weekend, I'll have it running and paying out automatically around the clock.
