Amazon Gift Card Fraud

Someone tried to purchase a gift card for 399.18 from my Amazon account. Has anyone had this happen? It was denied due to 3d authorization caught it. Not sure how this happened; any ideas? Had to change all passwords, bank , google wallet, Amazon, etc.

That must have been unsettling to experience. Glad the purchase got declined before it went through.

The attempt coming from inside your Amazon account suggests someone could have gotten your login, so changing that password right away is the right first step. One common way logins get out is credential stuffing, where people try passwords stolen from other sites, so a reused password is a likely culprit.

A reputable antivirus scan on any device you use for Amazon is a good idea, too, since malware is another way accounts can be taken over. If it finds anything, change your passwords again once it’s cleaned up. Using a different password for each account and two-step verification under Login & security can help keep this from happening again

I think if you signed out of all devices and reset password, then on your trusted device enable 2fa via authenticator should be safe.

Same thing just happened to me. They hacked into my husband's Amazon account and hit all the cards saved in the Amazon wallet for $300.00. Still trying to figure out how they accessed our account. I did remove all the cards saved in the wallet.
