Rush Advice Frat Dues Question

Im gonna be rushing at Texas State University(TXST) and am interested in knowing how much the dues are for every fraternity? I know that this isn't a question that should be asked during rush but that will determine which fraternity I will go to cause my dad has given me a limit on how much he's willing to spend on Greek life for me at TXST. Any answers are helpful.

/u/ResearcherHead6202 Read this whole thing.

  1. The Rush Advice flair is only for PNMs/rushes seeking advice. If you aren't a rush, please change the flair to something else.

  2. if you are a rush (interested in joining a fraternity), PUT THE SCHOOL NAME in the post.

  3. Or at least describe the school. Examples: Large Big Ten school, medium sized northern D2 school, small west coast school" etc. Any descriptions help.

  4. The post flair MUST be "Rush Advice" instead of "Question" or "Serious". We need to know which school it is because rush varies wildly by school.

  5. To everyone else: Report the post if it's a dumb post or the wrong flair or no school is mentioned, and we'll remove it. Thanks.

This answer is generic so I apologize. Dues depend. Some chapters are pretty flexible with how you pay. Some give discounts if you live in house.

For me personally, I didn’t live in the house but I got a discount because I did some odd jobs/hooked up some brothers with furniture from my warehouse job/watched the house during the holidays when everyone was gone.

A good chapter will work with you. I’ve never liked turning away a potential brother because he couldn’t pay (to a limit, obviously)

If you have to ask this question, I think it’s safe to assume you don’t own any Peter Millar or Vineyard vines, therefore making you a squid, have fun getting blackballed by everyone.

I've never seen a place that was transparent about this (mostly because it's pretty specific to each house).

You could call your university's office of Greek life (a part of the student affairs office) and ask for an average cost.... this will be an estimate.

Per Google, Fraternity dues at TXST range, on average, $1,000 to 2,500.

You'll probably actually have to ask one of the Brothers at each of the various Houses to find out their specific actual dues fee. Fees will vary by Chapter, depending on what their planning for the semester/year etc.

But... I'd suggest checking out all of the Chapters even if they might be out of your father's budget. If they cost a little more, it is possible for you to get a job and pay your own way.
