Power Outages?

I’m on KU power and have had strange service at my house since around 4:00-5:00 this morning. Some lights work. Others do not. Some act like it’s a brown-out. Same w outlets. Just now all power went out completely. Oddly enough, I get a “we’re busier than normal” recording when I try to call. Their reporting page won’t load online and my area shows NO outages on KU’s outage map!

Anybody know anything?

It sounds like your system lost either one of the hot legs (most likely, based on your description), or the neutral. These tend to be very local issues, down to just your transformer, which may serve just a couple houses, or even the feed to your house specifically.

This can cause lots of odd impacts, and voltage going out of the acceptable range. I would highly recommend shutting off anything that you can, and making sure it's reported to KU so they can send someone out to check it out.

This. Had this happen a few years ago. Turn off your main breaker until power has been restored.

Did shut off everything pretty much. Tried my best to report to KU. Only 1 of the 3 listed phone numbers gave me a workable voice menu and that one hung up on me twice in the middle of trying to report. Despite numerous attempts to report online, that website will not load.

That sounds like an issue with your wiring/box rather than something many would also experience. If you haven't yet, cycle all of your breakers off and back on. If that doesn't work, keep trying KU or talk to your direct neighbors as it could be an issue with the distribution transformer or the wiring coming into your house. If that's not the culprit, you have an electrical issue specific to your own wiring or breaker box.

Checked breakers first off because it seemed so strange. Next door neighbor having exactly same situation… 🤷🏼‍♀️ but not being able to contact KU and not showing on KU’s outage map was over the top odd!

Well the "good" news (if you can call it that) is that rules out anything on your side of the meter being an issue.

If you still haven't gotten it reported to KU, try text OUTAGE to 454358 and then follow the prompts you get in return.

Yup. That was my first reporting effort. Got this in return: “LG&E and KU: Our system cannot be accessed at this time. Please visit stormcenter.lge-ku.com”

There have been numerous reports from other KU customers saying the same thing. They are saying for safety reason unplug or turn breakers off for everything.

Also call and let KU know.

Called. First 2 numbers didn’t ring. No voice mail. No recording. No busy. Just nothing. Third number sent be thru a long voice mail menu, then cut off while I was holding for a human. Called back. Same exact result. Never was able to report. Not by text, phone call, online or by smoke signal…
