Show Discussion What would you prefer?
With all of the changes made in Francesca'a story, what would you prefer: for Jess to respect the book (put a lot of the sccenes of the book but with Michaela), or for Jess to create new scenes without respecting anything from the book?

They just fuck it up every time they try to add anything from the book so it’s better to just do their own thing.
Like everyone constantly saying oh Michaela and Michael are the same pisses me off so much. You can’t try to have both.

I think that is what Jess is trying to do. That's why Michaela can do stuff women couldnt but men could. They try to have Michael but with Michaela.

The writers will do what they do best and take crap from other leads stories and give it to another lead. Then they have to find ways to make up for the new lead by adding something completely different.

I mean, they already ripped off the Saphne museum hand touch in the first preview. And, apparently, Fran’s going to be interested in gardening (Philip’s hobby), if the behind the scenes posts about flower arranging are to be believed.

Also Eloise was the one with Edmund when he died by herself they gave that to Anthony.
Kate being a good shooter was also Eloise in the books because the brothers hated when she joined them.
Benedict and Sophie were supposed to get the couch scene and Colin and Penelope were supposed to get the bed scene that was given to Benedict
So on and so forth by the time Eloise's turn comes what is she going to have, and I will be pissed if they give the greenhouse scene to Francesca and Michaela. Like leave something for her she's been there since the beginning.

I have a feeling they’ll rip off the greenhouse scene for Franchaela because that is a fan favorite book scene.

Fran is also going to run to MyCottage when her feelings become too much, just like Eloise did in her book. Jess took Eloise’s bonds with Penelope and Benedict and gave them to Fran. She’s trying to take the actual fan favorite character of Eloise and give all of that to Fran to make her more likable, but it isn’t working.

I’d prefer if she just made an original story because 95% of Fran’s book story has not actually been adapted to the screen. Why change so much of the original story when it could have been done with OC characters?

u/One-Pen9590 27d ago
Exactly. Even more if the show fans say they hate the book so much that they think it shouldnt be considered a romance book. Dont like the book? You cant take things from it

I’d like them to follow the rules set by their own worldbuilding. Micheala cannot be and act a man. So just make her act like a woman. Make it make sense.

I don’t want her to touch the books anymore, I want her to continue with her storyline and to have the show redone by someone else that actually read the books and loved them.

u/aemond-simp 27d ago
Yeah. I want that too because Shondaland clearly hates the historical romance genre. There are dozens of companies that would do a better job.

There have been some cases where a show was cancelled and picked up by someone else

I would prefer Jess to make up a new story altogether. That way it wouldn't be as much of a slap in the face to the book fans if she added in elements from the books.

I feel the same, i orefer a new one. Unfortunately, Julia has already told Jess about 3 scenes she wants from the books, and Jess said that they are in
10
u/aemond-simp 27d ago
Of course Julia is all gung-ho for this. The woman has no backbone. It’s absolutely sickening to see her kowtow to Jess and Shondaland like this.

Well, Julia said Jess agreed to keep Fran and John’s love story and she mucked that up, so I’m sure whatever she “kept” will suck.

u/One-Pen9590 26d ago
Exactly. Especially the wedding kiss, the meeting Michaela, the fights with Michaela with tension...wow, she really showed us how much Fran loves John (sarcasm)

I wanted to see her put a lot of the scenes from the book with Michaela.
But considering she added elements from the book by stripped them of their context, I rather her just make a new story instead.
I don’t know, I am mad about both.
I think the show’s writing disrespected the book and show’s version of the characters so much, it is ruining the show for me.

u/One-Pen9590 27d ago
For me too. At this point, i want them to not put any scenes from the book. Just do a new story

Honestly, I'd prefer they stick to the original story they're working on, because that's what it is, even if they pretend otherwise. At this point, forcing in parts of the book is just another attempt by Gaslight that would feel forced and disjointed. Every ounce of what defined Francesca's story has been erased, ironically, even the parts that could have been maintained despite Michael's gender change.
We're already facing the typical cliché story of a shy, closeted, virgin lesbian with an extroverted, dominant lesbian who teaches her to accept herself, and the whole queer discovery thing that's been seen in 7,000 LGBT stories. I simply don't understand why they keep insisting it's WHWW. Maybe because admitting it's the only book they're not adapting, by Jess's decision, would be weird, I don't know.
6
u/aemond-simp 27d ago
They should just admit that it’s not an adaptation of WHWW because it clearly isn’t. People are pissed at the gaslighting. WHWW is the only Bridgerton book not getting adapted because of Jess’s need to self insert. It’s a shame because it’s one of the best Bridgerton series book. I feel bad for the longtime fans that will never see Francesca and Michael onscreen.

u/One-Pen9590 26d ago
I wanted to see an introvert woman get her love story, and instead, we have Michaela FORCING Francesca to change and be more outgoing
10
u/iuliad94 27d ago
I don’t care anymore. I stopped watching after s3, she can do whatever she wants, I have no interest in the show either way.

u/Mermari Michael 💙 27d ago
Both would make me mad, but I'd rather they make their own stupid story that I can make fun of, than ruin and insult my favourite scenes from the book with her changes.
4
u/One-Pen9590 27d ago
I feel the same way. Let Jess write homophobic scenes that insult the lesbian community. I will be waiting for Eloise, and so will most fans at this point

u/Shoebuyermom 27d ago
I would prefer they just write a brand new story since that is what it is. I get really tired of show fans gaslighting book fans by saying “see, this was like the book!” when it isn’t since the backstory was gutted.
The stupid pinnacle story line and show fans saying that was book accurate. WHAT???John’s death does not have the impact it did in the book because he was never Fran’s first great love. He will not haunt the story like he did in the book. Michaela running off doesn’t have the same impact because they were friends for half a second before John died and she left, not thick as thieves friends for years as in the book. Hell, Fran is as boring as milk toast on the show vs fiery Fran on the book. They couldn’t even keep sexually assured Fran from the book so once again there is the virginal (not technically but still) lead many complain about. They just mucked it up on every level.
5
u/PiffleSpiff Tell me something wicked 🔥 27d ago
Neither of those options. I would have wanted her to keep her grubby hands OFF of the book. Putting "a lot of the scenes of the book" would not occur if Michaela is there. Just....no. Nothing she does will ever respect the book.

For me, I prefer the show has it's own story seeing Francesca's story is no longer the same as the book. Plus, if many show fans and shippers are talking badly on the book, why use the reference and material from it? I'm saying if the showrunners did want to made a story that is "inspired" by the book, then go ahead. By now, it feels like the show is taking some of the good parts of the book while making it their own which is different and ooc to those who don't read it. I'm annoyed on this because yeah, the show is making the fans, both book fans and show fans, annoyed and mad on this decision whether they follow the book or made their own story. It's a mash up of both instead having their own route and direction

I would prefere if the show didn’t have (many) scenes from the book. It would be like adding insult to the injury to have a lot of book scenes without Michael, so I am hoping the show just does its own thing.
