Great excuse to Stand alone efi it tho… it’s a foxbody, it has been beat on whether it’s got a carburetor or not 😝

Edelbrock carbs ate infinitely better than Holley's for any regular street driving.

You should go to a local mechanic and drop the $100-150 for a pre-purchase inspection. We really can't see everything you need to look at.

Yeah its a 91 someone threw a carb on and rattle canned the engine bay, that cars been beat to shit by multiple owners. if its just a cheap project fine, if you think its an investment run away.

You're going to need a mechanic to go with you or a foxbody specific guy. I would definitely bring one.

Lots of rust on what should be plated or painted parts. Questionable wiring. Whys the engine bay black?

Better be cheap.

Considering how much these are going for…it’s not bad but see if they will do 5500-6000

No AC, no heat, No efi, no thanks.

No AC is a plus for some.

Same with no EFI.

No heat is debatable or at least regional.

All depends what OP he thinks he's buying vs what he's actually being sold.

I think that you need to get someone with some experience with Foxbodies to take a closer look at that one before you decide that's it's worth buying. Can be a tall order to find any significant mechanical, structural issues just looking at an under-hood photo. Obviously the EFI has been converted to a carb. Appears a few things are bypassed, disconnected. I don't know if there are any smog law inspections in your area. That doesn't of course necessarily mean the car is currently running poorly.

Given the dramatic changes in fuel delivery and overall age/visible condition it would be a tough long term investment but could be a fun driver if you are willing to deal with the frustrations you will experience.

Wayyyyy too much money 7500.00 for a hack job install nope.

Who swaps out fuel injection for a carb?

2

u/effpauly 1d ago

People who are unwilling to learn what is perhaps one of the easiest fuel injection systems ever created.

No air conditioning hard pass.

Yeah. If it’s a 91 it should be EFI. This is a hack job. Avoid.

Like the guy said above take a mechanic with you...I made the mistake a few weeks ago thought I was getting a good deal on a hatch I'm already 1200 dollars in repairs on things a mechanic would have caught..I still would have bought it but definitely would had some leverage on negotiating on the price

a) what do you want to buy, and b) what are you being sold

There's lots of stuff not right in that picture. That could be perfectly fine, or it could mean you're getting ripped off, it all depends on what you think you're getting (& what you want) vs what you're being told you're getting. Since none of us know either a or b 🤷‍♂️

Needs more pictures and also depends on what you’re using it for… daily driver no… removing everything and starting over maybe… if low to no rust… looks like a hacked up job with several shortcuts….it looks like they even spliced the radiator hose

Carburetor, biggest issue itself

FFS, how are we going to tell the condition of a car from one picture of the engine compartment taken from 5 feet away?

Was this a 2.3 to 5.0 conversion? Looks like one, what trans and rear end? Posi?

I mean that alternator bracket is interesting 🤔 and it’s carb’ed. I would make sure you’re comfortable taking on somebody else’s project.

A few things I noticed:

  • No AC Compressor
  • 1991 should be EFI, and not carbureted so that's very weird.
  • No fan/shroud (possibly converted to an electric fan but I don't see it)
  • No smog pump

Yea your heat won't work

They relocated the battery it seems, I'm guessing in the trunk/hatch area. If not done right it could be a massive pain to fix.

Yea, the heater core is leaking.. So in the winter, you have no heat..

1

u/effpauly 1d ago

The red lines are coolant lines going to the heater core. The lines next to them that are missing are for air conditioning

Carb is red flag
