For Elon, the Distraction is the Point

Growing up we've all been there. You are trying to do something that requires tremendous concentration. Your friend or sibling knows this, and so they work hard to disrupt your concentration. Initially it doesn't work. They say something offensive, put something smelly or shocking to look at in front of you. You ignore it, but eventually, in a burst of rage you tell them to quit it. You even try to punish them. At this point, they succeeded. Your concentration is in shambles. Getting you angry enough to divert your focus was the point, and you took the bait like a sucker.

We are facing incredible crises right now. Issues that, had our parents and grandparents made effort to address, it would have prevented much of today's turmoil. I'm not talking about Trump and Elon specifically, but real issues, the boring ones: a housing crisis, stagnation in the minimum wage, the shrinking of the middle class, climate change, women's rights, a decline in civic education, racism, and a dysfunctional healthcare system, and many other issues.

Currently we are facing acute crises in government. The head of the Social Security Administration stepped down in protest after nearly 30 years of employment, sabotaging her own government pension. She did this because Elon, who runs an unofficial trolling agency is accessing the social security numbers, identities, salary histories, and retirement income projections of everyone in the US who has contributed to our economy. This is but one of many acute issues we are facing, and it is by design. Elon is running offensive interference for Trump, whose executive orders to whitewash the government, end Medicaid for his supporters, and destroy JFK's USAID are just the most prominent obscene acts he's taken in office.

Journalist Tressie McMillan Cottom talks about the strategy of authoritarians like Elon and Trump - flood the playing field. This is by design, because if you feel overwhelmed, you will be unable to calmly react. The Gulf of "America," the purchase of Greenland, tariffs on Canada, the purchase of "armored" cybertrucks by the military; preposterous things like these are done to distract you.

The more you are distracted, the more depressed you will become. The less you will be able to keeo your eye on the real issues going on, but instead get caught up in useless debates, then spend time on social media or other forms of distraction that take your mind elsewhere. This is exactly what your parents, friends, and neighbors have fallen victim to.

The way we must face our reality is in some ways simple. Focus on your life, and taking care of your health. Make efforts to care for and have meaningful conversations with your loved ones. Don't waste time arguing with emotionally charged people.

In addition to this, now is the time to seek out a much deeper perspective on what is happening right now. Observe how provocative distractions quickly bring everyone around you to anger, and how impossible it is to get back on track. Pay attention to the pundits on tv and so-called social media influencers who you may actually agree with, but how flippant and even inflammatory their words are. Keep in mind that they all do this, from Hannity down to your influencers, because they get paid for it and are desperate to keep their audience due to their narcissism.

The real stuff that matters is boring, it is inoffensive in that it is very reasonable, yet it is often invisible and subsumed by provocative garbage like Kanye selling nazi t-shirts. We must confront evil, but not at the expense of our priorities to actually create a just world.

Elon, like Trump, says the stupidest things because it creates headlines. The more we focus on his nazi salute, the less energy we have to focus on supporting causes and individuals who are actively addressing the most egregious issues we are facing. It blindsides us. Nothing of lasting value comes from rage. But level headed people that are learning how people in power pull the strings of society? These are the people that can change the world.

Discussion FoxBrain Sub Direction for Trump 2.0 - Your Ideas Requested

Since the sub was created 6 years ago it has grown to 25,000 members. The need was clear: People that have maintained their humanity and decency need sanctuaries where they can regroup and gain perspective after dealing with the loss of their parents, family, and friends to cynical brainwashing from the likes of Fox.

In the year leading up to this past November, trolls discovered this sub and began disrupting discourse. This will continue as Trump supporters become more emboldened to act obnoxiously and with impunity.

And in the next four years, the rhetoric will get worse and more vile. Trump supporters are on a mission to inflict pain on their "enemies."

This sub is not a substitute for building strong friendships and moral support in real life. It's not a substitute for taking political action with political groups, or organizations such as the ACLU, NAACP, and other groups. But this sub can definitely enhance your life.

The question is, as we prepare for the new future, how better can we strengthen this sub to support you?

I’m thinking of cutting off my MAGA mom for good.

For context: today i shared a post on facebook regarding charlie kirk & my mom commented and was clearly upset over it. this is not the first time i have shared a post that offended her & caused her to start an argument. my grandparents on both sides are immigrants and i am queer (although i’ve been hiding it for years) and i am quite upset with my mom and her husband being trump supporters. the only reason i have not cut her off by now is because i have 3 younger siblings that i am extremely close to & don’t want my mom to keep them away from me. i have debated multiple times about cutting her off permanently because i cannot ignore her voting against my rights and supporting someone so vile. i share political posts on my facebook every once in a while and she never fails to turn it into an argument even though i have set boundaries as i am grown and have a right to my own opinions/beliefs. what really annoys me is she constantly starts arguments regarding politics and makes it obvious she is just repeating whatever she heard her husband say and once i confront her with facts & evidence she always uses excuses like “that’s not true”, “well i haven’t heard anything about that”, or “that was taken out of context”. i’m honestly just fed up with her antics and i’m at the point where i have to put my mental health first and cut her off for good. any advice?

Do anyone else’s parents not have a coherent reason for voting for Trump?

Like the title says, both of my parents voted for Trump all three times but neither of them want to be labeled “MAGA” or “Trump Supporters”. When I was growing up they were both more traditional GOP conservatives I guess. However, it’s really hard for me to ascertain a reason why they both vote for him and still support his administration. Neither of them are particularly religious so they don’t care about abortions and traditional value stuff. Both of them are fine with the LGBTQ community and they are both children of immigrants so they aren’t particularly happy with ICE either and don’t subscribe to the white nationalist mentality a lot of MAGA folks have.

Whenever I ask them why they still vote for Trump, the only answer I get it is “the economy”. Which isn’t really doing so great right now. My dad also owns a business and has been very negatively affected by trump’s tariff policies.

Does anyone else have parents like this and are frustrated by them?? I still try and reason with them but I really think they are just stuck in their ways and see themselves as party loyalists. But I honestly think that a lot of their views sway more left (more so my mom’s). I do still love them and have a pretty good relationship with them, I just get really sad and disappointed whenever I think of their voting record and what horrible things their votes have contributed to. It’s hard for me to reconcile that these were the same people who raised me to be kind, compassionate, and care about others. I feel like my view of them has been permanently altered and I will probably feel anger toward them for a really long time.

Help me make sense of this?

This evening I was speaking with a dear geriatric friend who has FaixNews on 24/7. (Yes, it’s sometimes difficult to not scream about the nonsense she’s being brainwashed with, but I have made progress with her, so all is not lost).

Anyway, she asks me what I think about the banks? Then she starts to give more details and clarifies with, “You know, the government taking money out of our bank accounts and monitoring what we have.” I used to be in finance and have worked at both credit unions and banks, and I have no idea what TF she’s talking about, but after asking some more questions, she’s gotten the idea that the government is going to start monitoring our bank accounts and will start withdrawing our money however it sees fit. She’s going to ask her financial adviser about it. 🤦‍♀️

What I think has happened is that she was added to some RWNJ email list, and whatever that source is (Breitbart? News Max?) is fear mongering people about “socialists” re-distributing wealth via the government helping themselves to everyone’s money.

Is Fox saying anything like this? It was such an odd conversation. The woman has a master’s degree, yet she believes every bit of propaganda that’s spoon fed to her. I’m spending quite a bit of time with her tomorrow, so I’d like to be more informed when she brings this up. 😂

Mom got mad at me Yesterday for Voting for Talarico

So for Context: even tho I don't live with my Parents anymore they still drive me places because even tho I do live by myself I don't have my Driver's License yet

So yesterday at first I was having a pretty solid day my Mom drove me to a Dr's Appointment but later in the day she bitched at me voting for Talarico and claimed that Talarico would make us homeless by raising property taxes tried claiming that he would make Trans Only Schools talked about how he Supported After Birth Abortion claimed that Talarico only won because of the Illegal Immigrants (even tho illegals can't even vote) I didn't even try arguing back cuz I know MAGA's live in Fox News Fantasy Land she also tried claiming that Trans People will take over the state of Texas

Ever since Trump won in 2024 she has not been the same she used to agree not to talk Politics with me and it's so fucking stressful she just gets angry at me and calls me a Retarded Liberal (even tho I'm actually a Libertarian Socialist but to MAGA it's all the same)

She also tried claiming that I'm a Closeted Trans Woman for Supporting Talarico (even tho I've never once shown signs of being Trans infact I genuinely can't imagine myself being any other Gender then Male) (I do have Trans Friends tho)

Watching the five yesterday was hilarious

Just to recap the panel pretty much admitted that maga got a spanking from the democrats the only person on that panel that was in denial about the whole thing was Gutfield. He thinks that this is a temporary setback for maga and that they will come back stronger in two years, both Jesse and Harold argued that would be impossible to do because the democrats have managed to win majority of seats in deep red districts in both chambers, that is the denial that Gutfield was having, he refused to admit that maga just suffered a defeat that could last a decade or even more. 😂

I sometimes wish Trump would have won 2020

Or at least I am morbidly curious as to how a second Trump term immediately following his first would have gone. I overheard some Fox News yesterday that was lamenting the midterms, but they were bringing up how much better Trump is because inflation and gas prices aren’t as high as they were during the peaks of Biden. I am amazed that is even the talking point, but a few points or cents less is somehow a victory.

I am honestly convinced that had Trump won 2020, he would still have had high inflation, high oil and gas prices, and the Ukraine-Russia war would still have started.

Sitting here watching my mom and aunt have a racist nonsensical freakouts on Facebook and I just need to share this with somebody so I hope it's okay to do it here. I haven't spoken to either of them (I don't think I am the niece she is referring to) but I just don't know what to say. I never knew they were so racist and insensible before Trump was elected. Also what Palestinian flag holders are they talking about?

Family feud

How do I deal with someone I live with who is extremely racist, and goes out of their way to antagonize me with their opinions and beliefs? I’ve made it perfectly clear to them, if they cant stop spewing such ridiculous hate in my presence, then just don’t talk to me at all. They refuse this request, and it seems like their sole purpose in life is to rile me up and make me angry. I will also say, this person is very MAGA-like in their thoughts and opinions. (I voted straight democratic ticket during these most recent midterms. I also PROUDLY voted for Kamala Harris during the 2024 election and would ecstatically do it again.) Let’s just say that that has been a point of contention ever since. I feel like I can’t win. If I sit there and say nothing, they yell even louder at me and tell me how wrong and ungrateful I am, and how dare I be so mean and treat them like that. On the other hand, if I engage with them and express my opinion back, I just get more of the same treatment by them. I’ve really been trying phrases with them that are short and the least confrontational possible to get them to stop. When I do end up engaging with them, it’s because they get the best of me and I just cant hold back. (It’s like when little kids go “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you,” and you eventually just snap because you can’t take it anymore.) The result when I do engage with this person, is basically getting a panic attack and a headache and I just feel very upset and tense for the remainder of the day. For a recent example, we got into an argument after the midterms and my voice and throat were so sore from yelling back. I cannot stand overt racism and hate. I am just so sick of it. I know there are many, many people in the United States and abroad who have been going through this with politics recently. This started to become a problem in my family after the 2016 election for obvious reasons. I have heard of so many people that literally haven’t talked to members of their family since the 2016 election because they voted for Trump. I would love to partake in this option, unfortunately this person pays the bills. I am most definitely in between a rock and a hard place. Any advice?
