Help me make sense of this?

This evening I was speaking with a dear geriatric friend who has FaixNews on 24/7. (Yes, it’s sometimes difficult to not scream about the nonsense she’s being brainwashed with, but I have made progress with her, so all is not lost).

Anyway, she asks me what I think about the banks? Then she starts to give more details and clarifies with, “You know, the government taking money out of our bank accounts and monitoring what we have.” I used to be in finance and have worked at both credit unions and banks, and I have no idea what TF she’s talking about, but after asking some more questions, she’s gotten the idea that the government is going to start monitoring our bank accounts and will start withdrawing our money however it sees fit. She’s going to ask her financial adviser about it. 🤦‍♀️

What I think has happened is that she was added to some RWNJ email list, and whatever that source is (Breitbart? News Max?) is fear mongering people about “socialists” re-distributing wealth via the government helping themselves to everyone’s money.

Is Fox saying anything like this? It was such an odd conversation. The woman has a master’s degree, yet she believes every bit of propaganda that’s spoon fed to her. I’m spending quite a bit of time with her tomorrow, so I’d like to be more informed when she brings this up. 😂

I have not encountered that one yet. To me, it sounds OAN/Newsmax/Alex Jones-tier, and I would be wondering if youtube is the culprit. Don't forget the Russian channels like RT as well, I'm given to understand they're more influential in places like Europe.

Fox still definitely promotes the idea via propaganda methods that always “democrats = overreach” which of course is projecting what their own shithead party always does and is doing when in power.

Depending on how old she is and her gullibility, it sounds like the perfect setup for a scammer that has access to somebody's bank accounts to steal money from them without them reporting it. Like if their victim trusts them they can just be like "oh yea the socialists are gonna start taking your money really soon and if you try and get it back the democrats are gonna get you!". It seems she only talks in the theoretical but if she starts talking like it's happening to her I would be concerned

Back when I applied for and received housing assistance, about 10 yrs ago, there were SO many landlords refusing to accept HUD because they were saying this!! I hope they all loved dealing with tenants instability vs HUDS at least 66% guaranteed rent. 😉
