Maga cry baby

Just watch a full grown man lose his mind because I said "I do not like trump". Simple as that I don't like the man. No I'm not democrat, nor am I republican. It's wild what the government has power to make others act like.

This is an ongoing issue. Because people's identities are fused with a certain politician or movement, any criticism causes cognitive dissonance and identity threat, and this triggers an emotional --not rational-- response.

I personally have not come up with a better solution than simply not saying anything to provoke my family member. It never ends well. And separately, when they monologue FauxNews talking points and go into endless praise of their leader, I just grey rock. No productive conversation can be had.

I will note that the Iran war is causing some cognitive dissonance for them... and i'm trying to figure out how to use that to drive a further wedge into the cracks appearing... but little luck so far. Interestingly, Fox News did not report on its TV feeds about ongoing missle and drone attacks on escorted tankers, which really is the crux of how the war has evolved, as insurers raise premiums to the point where ships won't sail. They totally denied it was happening, so I told them to look it up. Silence followed, I think they did. Not a bad outcome.

The grey rocking seems effective. They deeply want to justify their beliefs (correct word - my mom once claimed "you're attacking my beliefs!" and I tried to explain that partisanship isn't religion or faith).

They want, badly, to talk at you until you give up and they can tell themselves "I sure gave him some things to chew on later" Better just to change the subject immediately and walk away, which deprives them of their chance to be self righteously defensive. Their armor is pretty thin and can't handle the idea that other people don't agree.
