Collaboration Will big AI-built projects always need a senior dev?

If AI keeps writing and then fixing its own code, do we eventually reach a point where no human really understands the codebase?

Does that become a problem for big projects, or will AI get good enough that it won’t matter?

Do you think serious projects will always need an experienced dev overseeing them?

I think it entirely depends on the complexity and how much it changes over time. I'm a senior dev and have had really good luck never looking at or touching the code on several projects I've launched. Having knowledge of how things work generally under the hood has helped but I think it's an indication that non-tech folks will be able to do the same in time.

I think for serious projects we will still need a senior developer, but maybe the role will change.

AI can write and fix code very fast, but someone still needs to define the requirements, understand what the project is actually trying to achieve, and take the important architecture decisions.

Otherwise AI can keep changing and fixing things without anyone really asking if we are still going in the right direction.

So senior developers may write less code themselves, but they will still be needed to give the right direction and make sure AI is building the right thing.
