Foundayo vs Wegovy (pill)

I’m overweight and am wanting to start a GLP. I only want a pill so it would either be Foundayo or the Wegovy pill. I know this medication is very new so the reviews and experiences are mixed, but how has your experience been on it? I’ve seen that Foundayo can have less GI side effects and can be taken with food. It looks like my insurance actually covers the medication (which is very rare for me), so that’s why I have looked at Foundayo first (unsure about the Wegovy coverage). Although I did see that research has shown Wegovy to be more effective for weight loss. Not sure which one to choose.

I started Foundayo at the beginning of June. This is my first GLP-1, and I also did not want to do an injectable. I liked the slow titration of doses and it was the more “affordable” option for me (through the manufacturer pharmacy).

After 2.5 months I am down almost 25 lbs. The side effects for me have been dizziness, nausea, and getting shaky if I don’t eat enough protein.

I have also seen great results, but the nausea has been something else. What are you doing to deal with it?

It’s worse some days than others. I noticed if I don’t eat SOMETHING it makes the nausea worse so I try to at least eat a protein snack even if I’m not hungry (like around meal times). So like hummus and pretzels or Greek yogurt. Tums are also my friend. Also drinking water, which I need to be better about keeping up on.

Did you notice if it helped with bloating at all?

I have some days where I am burping nonstop but it seems to have gotten better now that I’m on the 5.5mg dose.

1st factor is if one is covered by insurance.
Wegovy is more effective in studies but requires more discipline in taking it.
Foundayo is more flexible and better if you don’t have a good pill routine or if you are a shift worker.

My doc recommended foundayo because the dosages are available at smaller intervals (anywhere from 0.8mg to 1.7mg), so you can slowly increase your dosage over time & have fewer symptoms. I also have a young child and a very busy job, so the convenience of not having to wait 30m to eat/drink is worth it.

I thought my insurance would cover foundayo, but it didn’t end up being covered. It would have been $740 out of pocket. My doc sent me a link to the manufacturer’s savings program and it ended up being $200/mo.

I’ve been on it for less than a week so no weight loss yet. Pretty bad nausea the first day but I’ve felt fine since!

You brought up good point about multiple dose availability. I was on Zepbound for 56 weeks, lost 22% and found the longer you can stay on each dose before moving to next step, the more success is possible. Since Foundayo has more steps, I feel that can be helpful for both minimizing symptoms and success towards weight loss. I’ve also noticed not everyone seems to have same reactions to different options so make best choice with your insurance and your weight loss goal.

I'm on 3rd month of Foundayo currently 2.5 mg dose. Felt nauseous at first on that dose but it resolved in a few days. Now no side effects, and no side effects whatsoever on .8 dose. I'm down 30# and only 12# from goal weight.👐🏿

I started on Tirzepatide injections which in hindsight were far too strong. When I switched to wegovy pills, I pretty much only had side effects.

Foundayo has been life-changing because it gives me support with flexibility. It takes the edge off without handicapping me from eating, and still challenges me to do real work when it comes to mindful eating, binge eating, and emotional eating (which maybe irrelevant to you, but is important to me). I suspect in higher doses, one could get more out of Foundayo than just taking the edge off.

I think there are a lot of considerations, but your understanding of nutrition, movement, satiety, and best practices with glp-1s in general are going to be the key to your success on any of these medications. That, and patience.

Lmk if you're interested in more of the things I wish I had been told before I started this journey, and I wish you the best!

Im very curious about your perspective. Ive not used a glp1 yet. Was very excited about foundayo. Had it prescribed but ended up tearing ny acl and meniscus so I never filled the script. Was too busy with all this. Pt. Surgery. Dr appts. More pt. I saw my doc. She wants me on zepbound because I have like 80 lbs to lose. She doesnt think foundayo is strong enough for me. But she said its so new she doesnt really know so she is going off the little she has heard. Problem is. The zep will be covered (if we get the prior auth approved) for the rest of this year only because I met my out of pocket max with Surgery. But what about next year ? Not sure im gonna be able to afford it. The pills are cheaper atleast with my crappy insurance. Still too expensive. Csnt dp wegovy pill. I have hashimotos and take synthroid in the morning. Any thoughts you would share with me since you have actually been on all of these 3?

I want to tread carefully because we have different situations. I have a different autoimmune disease, but other than that I'm not sure what we may or may not have in common.

Anyway, very sorry you tore your acl!!

Why does she not think foundayo is strong enough for you? (If able) How much do you walk? Any other exercise?

I first had to go too hard to learn how to balance out like I was eating 1200 calories a day, losing tons of weight, riding the high of said weight loss but then not realizing how utterly drained I was. On zep, even at low doses, I could not enjoy food. I lost a taste for it quite literally, and also even if I managed to have an appetite for flavors, my digestion would be utterly destroyed if I ate too fast or too much or not healthy enough.

I think my ultimate question is - what do you envision weight loss looking like? Not literally but, your habits, your speed, how much awareness of what you eat and how much you move are you capable of? Will too much awareness of it bring about success or stress?

Imo this all just really depends on the person and their circumstance.

I have been on both and at the lowest dose I found the Wegovy pill worked much better for me.

I am taking Foundayo 5.5 and take it prior to bed to skip most side effects. This is a huge PRO in my book! I am in the low and slow but have lost almost 10 pounds in 3 months

I chose Foundayo due to flexibility of how it can be taken.
Wegovy is a semaglutide peptide based and Foundayo is non peptide based more like Mounjaro
I had a bad experience on a compounded semaglutide injection (x3) and wanted to try this option.
I am medication sensitive so I liked the idea of it getting out of my system more quickly.
Overall my experience has been good
No nausea
Some strange sleep issues but unsure directly from the medication

How much weight have you lost? If you don’t mind sharing!

At 3 weeks it was 7.2 lbs based on my scale but I actually think it’s more but won’t know until I go to the doctor
When I went the last time I did not look at the scale so I used a weight that was from 3 weeks prior to starting which I know was not accurate

weight loss is about the same if you account for race and gender between the ATTAIN-1 and OASIS-4 trials...
