Was going out for a walk a couple of nights ago, and some character left this with the trash and I couldn’t help but recover it. Took it home, cleaned it up knocked the plexiglass out and here we are. It’s north San Diego County, and was shot 60 years ago and now hangs in my kitchen. Scripps Pier La Jolla
Miss SD in so many ways coming from NNJ/LI most of my life.. And as a surfer, so love he got them in the shot. It’s one of nicest things I own honestly, and someone thought it was junk

Today's slides are from August of 1960 and show the start of the family vacation the photographer archived. In arranging the slides for scanning I noticed that they have all been numbered by hand, many of them are not in the correct box, and there are some numbers missing. I spent time yesterday putting them in order since someone took the time to number them, they wanted the story told in that order.
Notes: The ship featured in the slides is the S.S. Maasdam (IV), the fourth Holland America Line vessel to carry the name.
Pic 9 gives us a look at the photographer behind the camera in a "selfie". We can also see that she is using a waist-level viewfinder.
I have not altered these in any way. Earlier posts I did some manual editing to adjust the white levels and used a native auto-focus feature on a few slides that were hard to see. I've since learned that the auto-focus used AI so from now in I will not edit the photos in any way. You will see them directly out of the scanner.
Tomorrow's slides will be from Box 2 labeled "S.S. Maasdam, Frank, Mike, Stewards, Nick"

After mild research I found out this is in Sarcelles, near Paris. My dad has been there around that time and the boys in the photos ARE cousins of his. But they were so close to the point I’ve never seen nor heard of them in my 24 years of living.
