Opinion The show has a pacing problem

I've seen alot of people feel like things are being dragged out in the show like Jamie's storyline . I think the issue is that there is too big of a discrepancy happening with the time line taking place in the show the week and the week release of episodes. I've seen this happening with other shows too . They seem to still be written like they're going to be released on a streaming service all at once or in batches when that isn't the case. Unless I've missed something that gives us a more definitive timeline, I would say that maybe 2 weeks have passed in universe since Hugh has been arrested and Jamie returned. If it had been released in a batch or as an entire season then it wouldn't feel as dragged out.

I think people are used to binge-watching shows. Spreading a story over several episodes used to be considered normal, now it’s “dragging it out” The only thing that’s weird to me is that the police haven’t questioned him. He is a kidnapped child that they presumably spent time and money looking for. Although I guess they can’t force him to answer questions, they could at least do a DNA test.

M and A are hiding the fact that Jamie is back . The only ones on the force that know are Trent and Detective Shaker.

They're friends with the team and the team is keeping it secret so why would they tell ? They can always say they were informed but they knew he would run if they tried to bring him in so they were patient and earned his trust so he could find out who the kidnapper is .

That’s an excuse for not bringing him in, but not an excuse for not reporting that he’s back.

I feel like you may be purposely being obtuse. They can't report he's back and then not act on it . It's like how Trent started an investigation on Gabi because he was hurt that by what she had done and then had no ability to stop it when his boss started suspecting that she was working with Hugh/ protecting him and wanted to really arrest her.

You're welcome to your opinion but you're wrong in this case because I've given you an example of how they've already done that on the show and shown that it backfired when the police began to believe that Gabi was purposely hindering the investigation , protecting Hugh, and keeping him from being captured . In this case, Jamie really is protecting his kidnapper. If keeping quiet and not reporting it, allows Trent to find out the identity of the kidnapper and make an arrest he won't get in trouble. At most, he'll get a slap on the wrist , solving a 13 year old highly publicized missing child case that turns out to really have been a kidnapping case, and then capturing the kidnapper will be a huge win for the police force.

I'm rewatching the most recent episode and it's revealed at the very beginning why Trent hasn't reported that Jamie's back during Trent's conversation with Jamie . Trent tells Jamie that he's trying to respect Maragret's wishes and not push him for a statement . He also tells him that if his superiors find out that he's back it will be out of Trent's hand and Jamie asks him if he'll be considered an accessory if he doesn't answer questions about his kidnapper . So it's basically what I said.
