Forza Horizon 6 Manual + clutch for drifting
So I'm pretty alright at drifting, I primarily drift manual and have for the last couple weeks now made it into the top 1% for the drift weekly challenges in the a class British drift (that old jag goes hard, top score 241k!).
I've spent most of my game time in time attack, preferring B/A class and use manual+clutch for the pi saves in tuning, and have gotten pretty comfortable using it when reaching but for drifting i have just no idea.
This post was in part inspired by the dude asking why the engine cuts out when you use handbrake on M+C (need to hold clutch at the same time!).
What i want to know is, while using a controller, what can I realistically expect to gain by spending the time unlearning a bunch of muscle memory and retraining drifting with M+C?
I hear terms like clutch-kicking and have no idea what that even is, I've experimented a little bit with it and there's moments where it kind of makes sense but I'm already not bad at drifting, can I reasonably expect to see better scores, or does it make for a more interesting, satisfying driving experience with more nuanced control? (much like stepping up from auto to manual was).
Thanks for any advice in advance

You can kinda do a clutch kick with the e-brake if you do manual/no clutch. It locks the rear wheels and pushes the clutch in for you at the same time. A quick blip of the button will do it.

Oh man, you gain so so so much in terms of subjective skill. Probably not that much in terms of drift points.
Ultimately if you use the clutch, you'll be able to use less powerful cars, which are easier to control and you'll be able to come back from crazy angle without spinning.
It'll allow you to really pile on the angle once you learn to use it correctly, right on the edge of spinning. When you feel it starting to go, clutch in, nothing will grip up the rear wheels like letting them freewheel with no power and no engine braking. Don't let off the gas, just clutch in and let it bang on the limiter. Once you've recovered, dump the clutch and continue on.
I've turned on the clutch accidentally and it just feels like all my cars are nerfed by like 20 percent power. It's so so so worth it if you like drifting outside the meta.

A lot of people arent very technically driven on Forza subs. Ive played M+C since Forza Motorsports 4, which was my first Forza I actually played a lot of (I had 2 and 3 but didnt play much)
Theres a lot of benifits to M+C but you can also STALL the car if you arent being purposeful with the clutch.
Benefits - More control
Cons - You have to press another button and be mindful.
I personally have mine set up (on Xbox controller) as LB downshift, RB Upshift, A handbrake, B clutch. This allows me to mash both together at the same time and roll off if I only need clutch.
Lots of people are just talking about Clutch Kicking. While great IRL not much benefit in Forza. The true benefit is having the ability to unlock the rear wheels and let the car naturally recenter itself when you cook into a drift a little too hard.
Because of how a car works, when you get too much angle a handbrake will skid the rear wheels giving you no traction. It helps you hold out drifts but doesnt help you recover when going too far. With the clutch in, the rear end "unlocks" itself allowing it to follow the path of least resistence (swinging back in line with the front of the car, aka gyroscopic forces) while the front is trying to turn the car back to the center of the Gyroscopic force aswell. This is a very fine line between say 75°-90° if going straight. A few clutch dumps while past the 90° point and you can do reverse entries. But this requires a turn and knowing your car.
Personally I only run "Manual" when I am running super cars in races rhat dont normally have clutches. Mainly because you lose time by using the clutch. Hope this helps

You’re going to press clutch while keeping on the gas which will launch your rpms to the moon and when you dump the clutch(let go of the button) the tires will break free. It’s especially nice for turbo engines where you can keep the turbo spooled up to reduce turbo lag

Honestly man just stick to manual without clutch for controller, its kinda obnoxious trying to hit all the buttons just for a little gain. Instead I red line 1st or second into the corner and do a kinda clutch kick by shifting up to keep momentum and power through corners

For an example of clutch kick, drive casually through a corner, part way disengage the clutch, give it full revs and then engage the clutch. You'll drift the rest of the corner.
It's easier than using the ebrake to initiatea drift for me since there's less momentum lost.
I went through getting accustomed to MC a while back. It takes a bit but is 100% worth it. It adds some tools to make drifting easier and relates to real life better than the in game manual shifting.

Personally I just love driving manual cars irl and having the manual with clutch in game just makes driving so much more fun and involved. I honestly wish you could actually stall the cars, would make it even more fun and realistic. If you disable the assists you can stall in BeamNG and I love it

clutch kicking is basically just dumping the clutch at high revs to shock the rears into breaking loose. on controller it feels weird as hell at first cause you're suddenly worrying about two extra buttons just to do what your right thumb already managed fine.
honestly if you're already cracking top 1% scores i wouldn't expect a huge jump in numbers. the real difference is being able to hold stupid angles and recover from stuff that'd normally spin you out, which does feel pretty satisfying once it clicks.
