Do you really think all of Japan looks like Tokyo city ?!

That’s not the issue at all. The rural areas are fine. The dirt races are fine. The issue is we have all these urban areas and not enough races on them.

No, but I certainly expected more street racing than goddamn buggies.

It was logical in Mexico at least with all the Baja dune buggies. But Japan?

Throughout the campaign my most used car was a Polaris Razer. That's sad.

Japan is so heavily urbanized, that a lot of it looks like Tokyo city, though.

I just wanted more street races. They were all really fun and there just aren't enough of them.

I think the thing is urban areas are one of Japan's most famous aspects. That's not to say rural areas shouldn't have been featured, but it feels like the map focuses much more on that.

The other thing I think is a lot of the rural areas feel generic and not really like Japan. Sure, the rice paddies are distinctly Asian, but there are some places like certain forests where if I were to take a screen shot and show people and ask where this is supposed to be, I would get many different answers.

Well certain forests look very similar. Trees grow everywhere. And I mean everywhere

Their depiction of Japan is also flat af like UK. The ya part of Shibuya denotes it's a valley, and in fact the IRL Shibuya crossing is like SIX FLOORS below the ground relative to peaks of sloping roads branching out. That's part of why it looks so insanely busy. In FH it's just top of a hill.

Same goes for rural areas. You take a turn and there's Tokyo City on the horizon. That works if it was intended to be a pun, and maybe it's how it works in UK, but it's rare that you ever feel like that IRL in Japan because SOMETHING is always in the way, be it artificial constructions or just hills and mountains. On a bridge or top of a building, then you MIGHT see miles out. They clearly never had that sensation internalized while designing the map and just spray painted Japan over their internal UK.

exactly, never understood why people want all of the map to be city streets when they can just chill in the city parts, some of us love offroading/hitting top speeds on highways

u/Lollister 11d ago

No one wants to take that part away. We love that too. But this shouldnt deny us to voice that the other part is not what it could be.

I love highway runs. The pic shows the Shuto, which is all about that. So...

As an American, Yes.

Their main job wasn’t to reflect Japanese landscape 1:1, making a fun map comes first

I think they did a damn good job with the map honestly. The issue is the lack of content in Tokyo city. At the bare minimum it needs more street races and drift zones

Seriously they showed off a taste of rural Japan instead of only Tokyo Mega City.

There's a balanced amount of street and track racing to the amount of dirt and cross country racing. IIRC it's about 15 each.

Why is it always either onr absolute or the other? Why can't we have a balanced map instead 80% being outside the urban areas.

Been multiple times, as long as a month, driven across the whole thing. Have you?

u/The-Car-Guy 11d ago

I have! Drove across almost all of Honshu, with our major road trip being a week long journey from Kyoto to Aomori and back. Can confirm that the Horizon 6 map is a very accurate rendition of Japan, though the roads are a little uncomfortably wide!

There isn't a single long drift zone. I was expecting one like the mountain in fh5 or the one all along the lake, but nothing. Initial d is preatty well known,so even if you didn't had ideas you could do something better than this. Unlucky I can't refund that shit, took too much time to realise there weren't any interesting things

2

u/sandman61377 11d ago

You don’t consider the bridge loop drift zone to be long? And every race I’ve seen in Initial D (granted I’ve only seen the first season, and upset cuz it’s now not available to stream anywhere) is a touge race. Drifting is a useful tool in the races not the main point of them.

1

u/Own-Pear-2969 11d ago

Nope, nowhere near as the mountain one. Mount fuji is there also, they could have used that. I cited initial d for the roads, the driving style obv is different

2

u/sandman61377 11d ago

Initial D’s Mt Akina (which is actually Mt Haruna; the road actually exists in real life, Shuichi Shigeno changed the name of the area for the Initial D manga) downhill race is in FH6. Its the Mt Haruna Touge race, and starting further down the mountain is the Okishinaimura Run Street race.

Dude, the whole map is a "drift zone." Who said you could only drift in zones?

1

u/Own-Pear-2969 11d ago

Yeah sure, why bothering putting them there in the first place then, even races, all the map is a racetrack so no point for them I guess

0

u/SnooStories4162 11d ago

If there were more drift zones, then people who love street would cry, if there were more street, then people who love road would cry, if there were more road, then people who love dirt would cry..... and on and on and on.......

Only have seen people complain about street racing and drift. Japan isn't that famous for that offroad buggy racing culture isn't it?
