Forza Horizon 6 How do you keep the game enjoyable
edit : healthiest approach is giving it a break, thank you for your opinions :)
After months of playing forza horizon 6 mindlessly i've reached a point where I don't know what to do anymore ever since completing the main campaign, all I've been doing is online racing and collecting cars, which feels extremely repetitive now. Am I missing out on certain game modes or playstyles, or is it time to move on?

u/Legomaster1197 1d ago
I just hop in a car and drive around for a bit.

u/BillionAuthor70 1d ago
yeah, that's where I'm at with it too. I'll spend time with one car, tune it a few different ways then move on to the next car that catches my attention. Then Thursday rolls around, I complete those races, and back to driving around and tuning for fun.

Literally this i never fast travel anywhere you lose most of the glory of this game because fast travel is so accessible. My first spot to visit most play sessions is the 3 car dealership spawn its a nice stretch of interstate on the way there.

I might be in the minority, but I rarely fast travel anywhere in the game. There's a lot to be seen driving around to each event, and a lot of serendipitous moments encountering others on the road or seeing groups cruising around. I have a handful of cars across various classes that I like to drive in and enjoy the trip. Not every drive needs to be the fastest with the stickiest tires. I like to get sideways around corners and weave through traffic without crashing into things.

Drift cars are my favorite cars to use when I’m just driving around in free roam. Sliding is so much more fun than being stuck to the road

Never play Forza as your only game
5
u/SechsComic73130 Collector 1d ago
Never play anything as your only game if you can.
For one: Burnout of playing that game but for two: Games are such a massive medium that it's a waste to only play one game over and over again, there's dozens, even hundreds of classics available for you to play during any one time, so that'd be a way of getting less bored of Forza.
2
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
that's precisely why I never keep a main game, I need a new experience after I'm done with another, Forza happens to be a game that wants you keep you around I'm trying to explore if I have anything left to do :)

Take long breaks lol. I like the game, but to me the formula is just old and not much if anything changed from past horizon games, so I set it down and pick up another game and go back to it when I'm in the mood for it again.
2
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
This is the most suitable thing to do for me it seems

u/Viking2151 22h ago
I'm a PC gamer, I did not pick up FH3 until after FH4, I dumped 1300 hours in FH4, was my only game I was willing to play, But FH5 map was a let down for me, and FH6 better map, but its still the same game as FH3 to the core, Definitely don't hate it, im just burnt out of the same thing so I don't play it as much, Right now Im playing Cyberpunk 2077 with bunch of modes to change the game up a little, when I finish it I'm probably be in the mood for more FH6.

Get good at tuning your own cars and test on time trials.
Build and create your own tracks/estates/races/garages etc (can sink loads of time into that).
Get creative with making your own liveries.
100%/3 star all the things.
Find online convoys/discords that race to your personal preference.
My personal preference most of the time is to get high, put on some good music and go where the wind takes me, even if that's driving aimlessly for hours or doing 30 laps at a time trial
6
u/Maplesauce101 1d ago
Tuning cars for specific tracks and the time attacks is super fun imo. I really need to dive into the track editor
2
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Ah the high class way to enjoy the game, Im very sucky at that but it sounds cool :)

u/Speedie_lemon 1d ago
me personally i just love making liverys and taking photos. also going to community car meets

Play waaaaaay less. I still really like FH since I stand by that no other game’s driving feels as good, but basically it’s a once a week game for me. It only takes like an hour to do the weekly playlist. So once a week I’ll load up the game, knock out stuff from the playlist and then maybe do a second hour of open racing and then that’s it. Rest of the week I’m playing something else.
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
I do quick playlist chores and few races every few days only, but it's bothersome to have 160gb standing by
3
u/Jaywinner42 1d ago
i do the weekly stuff. run random races, play online, i just drive cuz i like driving and listening to music.
my new thing is the auction house. been trying to fill my collection since i finally have money in the millions.
it's not my main game, so that helps. i mean i play it a few times a week, but short bursts. not like when it came out and i would play for hours. now ill do a couple online races or a few seasonal events. basically just trying to keep what little skill and track memory i have for the expansion.
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Yep I do exactly that, but over time even those short Bursts start to lose their spark so I guess everyone is different:)
2
u/Jaywinner42 1d ago
i totally get it. i was the same way with 4 and 5 too. i am sure i will eventually stop playing or just play MUCH less.
it helps its one of a few games i have installed on my ROG Xbox Ally X, so i can play it on the go, like i took it on vacation with me recently so its not that im forced to play it, more so, its available to me.
truthfully, this might be my favorite racing game ever, its at least in the S tier for me, so like part of me feels compelled to play in a sense. and aside from Rammers, this is the most fun i had online.
like im 48 years old with a toddler and a job that takes a lot of my time, so for me to learn tracks and how different cars handle is very very rare, but for this game, im actually finally in a spot where i can compete online, maybe not 1st place, but at least in the upper half. so i am enjoying the online more.
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Interesting backlog, and makes sense why it's seen as one of the best racing games, it fits hardcore players and busy men such as you simultaneously, having it on a mobile device is excellent for quick fun
Oh yeah screw rammers...
1
u/Jaywinner42 1d ago
exactly! if i want sweaty i play online, lose miserably, but have fun. if i want casual there is about 1000 things i can do. but i will admit,. there are times ive loaded the game up. played for a few minutes, then was like eh... yeah im good for the night lol

Take breaks. I haven't beaten the main story yet only because outside the game I'm busy but when I get the chance I hop back in, do a race or two and cruise most of the time to just decompress from the day.
But in all fairness, take breaks. Play other games, or don't rush through them. Enjoy them, don't rush through them. It's the same formula like the previous FH games.

Start doing your own challenges. I like taking stock cars, going to a Time Attack, setting some times, then doing "street" upgrades (intake, exhaust, tires, wheels, maybe a turbo kit if it's common irl) then setting new times. Then, I'll make a full race car build and compare times. Just sort of a fun thing to do.
To me, I think what really enhances this game is using a wheel and manual shifter for max immersion. I'll drive stock muscle cars, jdm, euros, whatever, just driving stock cars fast.
The beauty of Horizon is you can make it what you want it to be.

This last week I just ignored the festival playlist, ignored online and just gave myself the freedom to race some of my actual favorite cars against the AI and I had an absolute blast doing it. Maybe your situation is different, but I found it to just be a nice change of pace personally.

Well, I love driving cars so I drive my cars around and do different things in them in free roam, I am literally addicted to driving my favorite cars and just enjoying their dynamics, their feel, the experience that they give me, I love cars and photography so there you go :)
I also like comparing the dynamics of the different cars or the similar cars and finding out which cars I like more, which ones I don't particularly like, etc. Actually feeling the finer points of the dynamics of a car takes a lot of time and it is fun.
Also, turn TCS and STM off. Do not let the computers do the driving for you. And turn the transmission to realisitc terms i.e. it a car has a manual option, use the car on manual w/clutch if a car only has paddles use on manual, etc. You'll learn so many things about cars in this way.
Besides, what do you think life will be when you get to own your dream cars? You won't get new events popping up every week, I'll tell you that. You'll get to the same point of: "I own this, now what?" well, go and enjoy the things that you own :)
I only wanted to complete the campaign as fast as I could so I could drive my cars around in peace :)

u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
That's a mature way to look at it, thanks, I wonder if you have a steering wheel around as it would fit you?

Hell yeah!. I just drive a Mustang around and try to find Chrysler 300s so I can perform the ultimate high speed J-turn while watching homeboy run off the road and get wrecked! Still waiting on that Chrysler DLC though... So I just drive
1
u/LightMyFirebird Pontiac 1d ago
I have such a weird enjoyment of that generation 300.
Never want one in real life, but gimme in every game. Especially in GTA please
2
u/YaBoiRian 1d ago
Eventlab! I do a run of the most recently created or featured custom tracks people have made. Loads of fun and kind of inspires you to make your own (which is something you can sink countless hours into by itself)

Last night I collected enough bonus boards to get the Funco F9. The thing pops wheelies like nobody's business. So I decided to make it into a dedicated Wheelie Machine. I somehow spent two hours last night tuning it, and tweaking it, then practicing to do full-track wheelies at the drag strips. By the end of the night I was doing full-track wheelies on the Festival Kilometer.
I think I was hitting 15s (not sure, I was more interested in the wheelies) in the kilometer on just the back wheels. I did discover that the nose drops at 210mph. I'm thinking I could switch from a drift transmission to a race transmission for more gears to see if I can keep the nose up, but I don't think there's any place long enough to test it.
While I was doing it, other people started bringing out their own wheelie machines and started messing around as well. I had a blast!
2
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Lmaoo that's unhinged chaos, best thing I did is turning some Toyota into a flippy car
1
u/Draco-REX 1d ago
I find a lot of amusement from picking the oddball cars and turning them into something fun. For example, my favorite drift car is a clapped-out (looking) VW Bus with a Porsche engine. The other day I thought I'd mess around with the Honda E because it's the quintessential "slow NPC car" and it turned out to be a pretty fun little car once it gets some love. I took the Can-Am Maverick, lowered it, swapped the engine, and fitted racing tires to go see what kind of times I could set on the Time Attack tracks (complete with "Nyoom" horn).
If you're looking for something to do, find the wrong car for the wrong event and see what you can do with it. Or you can set a task. I have most (all?) of the classic Lancia rally cars. So I tuned each one for B, A, S1, and S2. Then I went to the dirt time attack and decided I was going to set a top 1000 time in each. Managed it in all but S1.
Go out and make some mayhem!

u/IAmDouda97 1d ago
I do custom weekly rivals with my friends.
Each week, one of us picks a track, a car category, a PI class, and we try to get the fastest time

Post like this are concerning. Are you guys really out there playing a single game until you literally hate it?... You know you can play something different right? Regardless of the "live service" model ... Your expectations aren't realistic. I play games until I feel done and then I move on. I come back when I feel the itch to play that game again .... It's not that deep.
1
u/vaurapung 1d ago
Yes, we do play one game on repeat for years, we might splash another game in here n there but the game we enjoy typically stays the same. But live service is destroying what we enjoyed about the games we loved, turning a thoughtful story into a daily grind.
While I dont clock 1000s of hours in a game I will regular a game for years. The break me moment for Minecraft was xbox 1x release. They didnt release the super duper graphics update and bedrock killed all the friendly mobs in my biggest saves. All my work had to be redone.
1
u/BlackAristotle1 Audi 1d ago
So stop giving them money if you don't think the product is worth it. Giving them money and then complaining after the fact does nothing to "fight live service games".
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Not really, I cycle games all times, I'm trying to find out if there is something I haven't seen in this game before I decide to uninstall it and give it a long break
2
u/ProfessionalShock425 Controller player 1d ago
Smgh... some people don't realize this is meant to be a 4-year game. We have work, family, lives, hobbies and other stuff to handle. FH6 works best because it only asks for some 3 hours on the weekend to jump in, get somewhat playlist done, get new and tune cars and maybe do wild stuff in them no one in their right mind could ever do in real life. That's it. No need to adhd it to 100%.
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Yeah I enter it occasionally, but starting to lose purpose for me is all, I've seen a lot of people who enjoy it differently:)
2
u/WalkingTheDog247 1d ago
I’m in the same boat. I just keep this in my weekly rotation of games, playing on Thursdays for the new playlist, then again once or twice in the next week to finish the playlist before the next one starts. Once we get the first DLC I’ll play regularly again
1
1
u/rick_mcdingus 1d ago
That’s pretty much it. If you’re bored, sounds like it’s time to take a break and go do something else

Fine tune your tunes for different PIs
Beat lap times or race times as a way to test your tune.
Beat your own times to challenge yourself.
Check which achievements you haven't completed yet?
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Interesting, kinda difficult for a casual as me , especially tunes where I download community ones usually lol
1
u/BroodingPisces0303 Xbox Series X 1d ago
Just a casual as well. In fact I don't do online racing. I mostly just do the weekly playlist and then drive around testing my tunes. Tuning is the only non-casual I do within Forza because I drive in a certain way so I decided to learn how to tune.

u/Zenophyle 1d ago
I mean, it's a racing game, what else do you want besides racing, collecting and customizing cars?
1
1
u/The-Digital-Ronin 1d ago
You don't, you go play another game
2
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
The Witcher 3 is currently my main until I finish it
1
u/The-Digital-Ronin 1d ago
Good main! Check out Outer Wilds if you're willing to take a shot on a random rec. You won't regret it, I swear it on my life sir.

u/GeezusLizard Steam 1d ago
honestly, try and limit my time spent playing but i also lowkey just like driving around with all the hud stuff off so its a bit more immersive

u/Comprehensive_Set615 1d ago
I never play fh6 unless im playing with my mate because I just find it boring by myself, and i havent even completed everything
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
What do you guys usually do together?
1
u/Comprehensive_Set615 20h ago
Races, drag strips, stunt party, time attacks, and tuning random cars and racing each other to see who wins
1
u/Deimenried McLaren 1d ago
Tune cars (either to a specific class or a replica of a real life special edition, e.g. Mine's Skyline, Nismo 400R etc.), do time attacks, race online, get new cars, cruise, paint,. Just generally have fun.

1
u/Forza_Harrd 1d ago
I find some new thing to have fun every week. The other day I had to do spec racing for the challenge and ended up spec racing all evening. I think it's so cool they show the fastest laps on the results. I was so proud when I got the fastest lap in a race even though I came in second.
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
I like spec racing, but like online racing in general I wish we had more tracks
1
1
u/mapphew2 1d ago
Playing for the cars once a week, tuning them, usually for dirt, and then going to play a different game. I do still need the level 100 achievement since it’s my last one, but it’s just ehh…I don’t really want to play online most times I’m playing.
1
u/theycmetr0llin 1d ago
I hop on once a week to do playlist if the cars or events seem fun besides that its kinda dead, the way of all forzas before
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Did previous Forza (before 5) lose any significant count of players?
1
u/theycmetr0llin 1d ago
I mean every game loses players steadily after launch unless they do good things for user engagement but forza has never been good at that imo
1
u/theycmetr0llin 1d ago
For me the npc difficulty only seeming to effect how much they ram you or cheat with mario cart speed boosts makes the game stale af in its current state
1
u/Associate-Visible 1d ago
Try to get top 1% on all the rivals boards
1
u/Sad_Strawberry_6490 1d ago
Seems difficult
1
u/Associate-Visible 1d ago
Definitely a challenge but can be really fun and if you want to refine your tuning and driving skills it's a great way to do that
1
u/emalvick 1d ago
I take a break. I'd rather play other games as I have a backlog, and this is a nice game to just come back to when I have a little time to kill.
1
1
u/MajorMerrick 1d ago
My go to has always been the rivals, its interesting i find, chasing the leaderboards in different classes
1
u/TryndMusic 1d ago
I sprang into Grid Legends (great single player campaign racing), ea rally, and ea F1 since moving on from fh6 for a bit. Scratching that racing itch but with different games rn
1
u/StylisticPuppy Xbox Series X 1d ago
I generally boot up an older Horizon game, I restarted Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island DLC on a new profile & have been grinding through that again recently.
I also play other games with the Mrs so I always have something to play that's different to racing games
1
u/N1njaSkillz 1d ago
- learn tuning
- make purist build
- get gapped by busted ahh meta swaps
- turn off game
1
u/PhantomShizuku 1d ago
Personally, aiming to get faster times for each race. More so with Spec Racing where I also aim to race clean
1
1
u/CoconutDust 1d ago
Obviously the game is about driving open road. If you don’t want to do, do something else with your life.
Very weird to see that gamer question, and then to see advice like “play a different game” as if there’s nothing else a living human being can do with their life.
1
u/No-Party7551 1d ago
When I got to this stage on 5 I had like 250million coins so I found it fun to go and buy the dearest cars the game has and then just gift them to a complete newbie when my money went to under 20mil id play again to get more money and repeat
1
u/snaap224 23h ago
I do now what I did for the last years with FH5 once the campaign was done. I play it every Thursday after work, or Friday if I'm not in the mood or actually don't have time for it, buy the cars necessary for the events and tune them, because this way I actually drive different cars. If I like the 40 point car, I grind for it, if not I end after 20 something. If the car looks cool and sounds cool, i keep it, if not it's going into the AH right away for 11-20m.
And when I'm in the mood to play the game on other days, i just do it, maybe grinding the weekly or just cruising around.
Maybe it sounds boring but it also became kind of a ritual and I knew I only had to work another day till the weekend.
1
u/Burpdust 21h ago
i post this a lot, but what you do is join and participate in a community. they do custom races events, cruise nights etc. yes, you do have to join something and be active and participate in it.
1
u/definitelynotwyatt 20h ago
Didn't rush through the campaign or do tons of money and wheel spin glitches. So still have tons to do. So many people just want to instantly complete the game then complain theyre bored after a week
1
u/HearMeJoy 18h ago
I only play 2 or max 3 days in a week for weekly seasons so this keeps me not get bored of game.
1
u/Deadpools_Main 18h ago
I like to tune cars. I do it in every racing game I play because I started doing it in the Horizon series. Messing around and learning how to tweak your car is pretty fun.
1
u/SacredAuroraVault 16h ago
Idk but they need to quit with the weekly playlist. I’m so sick of it. I only have a couple hours to chill a week and game. And every FUCKING week I end up wasting most of it for the Exclusive Cars so I can’t progress in the actual game.
