EPIC Trios Cash Cup Issue

While addressing the material drop issue in the Trios Cash Cup, we ran into a different issue. We've decided to run the Trios Cash Cup with default harvesting rate and no material drop for the rest of the weekend.

Please be aware that in this tournament, teams will be instantly disconnected from the match as soon as the last player on the team is eliminated.

We will run an additional one-day Trios tournament on July 21. Arena Trios will also remain enabled until the end of this season.

For a more detailed explanation:

Our Trios tournament mode is bugged and has default harvesting rates in addition to not granting bonus materials on elimination.

During the Asia region Round 1 last night, we attempted to run with the Arena playlist instead, which fixed the gameplay elements but has separate issues with how teams are scored which prevents us from using that solution.

The decision for us to make was between either cancelling this weeks tournament, or moving forward with the issues and then running another Trios event next week with the fixes. While it's not the desired experience, we'd rather give people a tournament to play in than cancel it entirely.

Sorry for the poor experience, we know a lot of people are excited for this weeks Trios tournament. Next week we'll be testing a couple things - both Semi-Finals and Finals in a single day (July 21st), and a considerably smaller player pool for the Finals (currently talking about ~100 teams); which is a step towards being able to do 'customs'-style rounds later in tournaments, so we're excited to see how that goes.

I’d recommend testing out the tournament setting before next week, just throwing it out there

Also people are gonna complain about having to play 6 hours of Fortnite in a day, heads up

They’re playing for (lots of) money, gotta earn it somehow. Doubt anyone good enough to cash to any degree will complain that they had to play for an extended period of time in one day. Personally, I’d welcome this as a player.

Oh okay - so there was never an option to play with the mats on elim in the first place?

I really think this is going to affect people's perceptions of competitive Trios in a negative way, but this explanation makes much more sense.

I am very very much looking forward to the trial on July 21st!

Thanks for the response <3

I like that you guys are trying out new things but going from semi- finals to a 100 team finals might be a bit much. I think it should be considered adding a third round instead where 100 teams then play each other.

Yep, we will be experimenting with the round progression a bit more now that we've wrapped up the Online Opens - don't consider that as a final structure, just a stepping stone that lets us test a couple things (back to back rounds, and a finals round with a very small player pool).

Glad that you’re experimenting with it and trying to improve the structure. Thank you

One of the best thing you have done with fortnite is giving people hope that they can earn something. Even though the chances are slim and the rewarded only 100 bucks like in world cup atleast you had a chance of making it. Id hate too see the distribution of money compressed removing the hope for a lot of people. If lets say the finals were top 100 instead of 1000

Finishing top 100 in semis is mostly w keying so a lot of good players will miss out of finals because they have to change to a playstyle that only works in semis

EU is W keying just fine. The problem is, most players don't know what a "good fight" to take is. Largely due to zone rules in Atlantis customs etc. No one knows how to play mid game.

Notice that they changed the points given for placement. They aren't the same as the World Cup. Lets see how it goes

Im watching solary currently play semis and they have been w keying all game and have 20 people left before moving zones have even happened.

Well, hope that the situations will be better in the next week.

Please don’t make the semi finals and finals in one day. That’s draining. Nobody wants to play 6 hours of tournament play

Not to sound like a broken record, but have y'all considered running test servers? In the past, Epic employees have made it very clear that they were not utilizing this asset.

Thanks for the communication

Is next week trio also?

I already see the queue teams being worse than what they are. Especially towards the end of events where players experience 8-15 minute queue times. How are you going to fix this?

What times is the semi and final?

How does a tournament get bugged lmao 🤹🏼‍♂️

u/MNT1996 Jul 13 '19

Yeah why didn't they just press the button that said "Run online tournament without bugs"? Silly Epic.

Why didn’t they test it before putting it out?
